EKITI — Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State, weekend, described the fielding of Dr. Goodluck Jonathan as presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the last election as a miscalculation by the party.

This came as Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara also, yesterday, declared that the Boko Haram insurgency would have destroyed Nigeria, if the former President had remained in power, asserting that the defeat of the PDP administration saved the nation from imminent collapse.

Fayose, who disclosed this in an interview, said the defeat could have been averted had the party fielded a northern candidate.

He said: “We lost the election because we did not pick our candidate from the north, not because Jonathan as a person was bad. It was just a political miscalculation. The fact is that my former President, I chose my word, my former President, Goodluck Jonathan, tried his best.

Ayodele Fayose
“But if I were him, I would not have contested at all, you understand? Because it is two ways: If he did not contest and the PDP lost out, he will still be an honourable man, and if he had given that opportunity to the north, those who defected from the PDP would not have defected.

“But that is story. Jonathan did his best and I will still continue to support him. You know I was not there when they took the decision about him becoming the flag-bearer, but it doesn’t matter. We can’t all put our mouth inside the soil. Somebody must remain with somebody. I will remain with Jonathan, even if I am the only man standing.

“A man is not measured by the amount of food he has and the amount of properties he owns. Sometimes sickness is good, it reshapes your life. Sometimes poverty is good, it helps your life. Sometimes failure makes you to reorder your life. It is not the end of your life.”

On what would become of PDP, in view of 2019 elections, Governor Fayose said though the party was going through challenges at the moment, it could still come out of its present challenge before the next round of elections.

“Let me explain something to you. When you have an accident, God forbid, you don’t gather momentum immediately. Life is physical, it is normal. What the PDP is going through now is a deliberate effort to destabilize the opposition by the APC and we know that.”

On whether he had his eyes on the Presidency in 2019, Fayose said: “For which country? Nigeria? Well, I don’t have such an ambition but I know I am going higher. Mark my words, I have said 20 things that will happen in Nigeria and more than seven have come to pass. Check the records.”

On the role played by soldiers in Ekiti and Osun elections, the governor said: “My own is that I have gone through an election. I have won an election. There is a place the law says you can ventilate your displeasure. They have gone to the lower court, the appeal court and the Supreme Court.

“The Supreme Court has given judgment in my favour. They have become functus officio. They cannot approbate and reprobate on the matter anymore. The election matters are Suris generis. They operate within the ambit of time.

“The military was represented by a lawyer and the police was represented by a lawyer. This one is an afterthought. During the National Assembly election, how did I win all the seats?

“Two weeks after the House of Assembly election, I won everything, 26-26. Is it the military again? When the male friend of your mother is more powerful than your father, you call him daddy. You welcome him and take his bag.

“Let them take my bag and accept this Ekiti matter. This Bayelsa election we just finished, 14 people died, how many people died in Ekiti? If you see my prediction about

Nigeria under Buhari, I said every effort to forcefully take the South-South states will result in a huge loss of lives.

“They should leave me alone. They should face governance. God has given me this place. No amount of powers will take this place from me because the gift of God is without repentance. How can only me defeat three governors – Segun Oni, Adebayo and Fayemi. I defeated them and they are still complaining.”

For those complaining its too long. this part is for you:-

PT: Do you agree with the Ekweremadu Committee that the party should zone the presidency to the North?

Fayose: You see, time will take care of that. In the first place, we lost the election because we did not pick our candidate from the north, not because Jonathan as a person was bad. It was just a political miscalculation. The fact is that my former president, I chose my word, my former president, Goodluck Jonathan, tried his best. Waoh , Fayose knew all these & he still collected Hero's money to coerce Ekiti voters with 2k each... shocked

When he was being "helped" with ecological fund, shining among low allocation + IGR states & able to pay salaries on time, Hero wasn't a political miscalculation then!!

When Don Fortunato was disarming Nigerians with his sappy shoeless story &got votes from every corner of the country in '11, was he a NORTHENER then

Naija politicians are specially created, their places in hell is still being custom made!

Clueless is an IB for real, couldn't see beyond his nose!! sad

Was Jonathan from the North when the middlebelt, some Northern states and the SouthWest voted him as president in 2011?

A president Jonathan who had evidence of performance and a record of anticorruption would have won any Northern candidate.

Instead Jonathan kept on saying "if re-elected, I will do...", and Amaechi aptly termed him "President I will do".

Jonathan was the president who always set up useless committees on every matter without even reading the recommendations of those committees.

He then set out to highlight how Buhari fought corruption with fury during his military regime. Jonathan sold the Buhari project more than any Buhari sponsored advert.

Then lastly, Jonathan confirmed what we have always known about his vehement refusal to fight corruption when he asked the immortal question:

"How much did Jim Nwobodo stole that Buhari regime put him in Jail?"

The world marveled at the purest form of presidential cluelessness and irresponsibility.

Jonathan was unfit to govern a Local Government Area, let alone a country.

Jonathan didn't lose the election because he isn't from the North, no. He lost because he was a perpetual failure both in character and performance. He redefined what it meant to be a weak leader. He embraced the oddest of people and loathed anyone with a touch of moral rectitude who dared to point him in the right direction. He surrounded himself with all the ingredients for a guaranteed flop.

Regardless, the election is done and dusted and I find it somewhat incomprehensible why. Fayose is coming up with this now; I mean, if he knew all along PDP erred in fielding Jonathan, why did he make himself the arrowhead of the personal attacks on Buhari in the run-up to the general elections?? Is he trying to warm himself up to the presidency?? Is Aluko's threat to expose more behind this latest overtures especially this coming after visiting two APC governors??

Only time will tell, and when that time comes, I hope those miscreants who've sworn on the remains of their forefathers to sing Fayose's praises to the end of time feel humble enough to acknowledge and applaud his utterances. I hope when that time comes, he doesn't become "a Yoruba man" to those people...

I said it then that johnathan should step down , just for pdp to win.

If the north presented pdp candidate, we wouldn't have heard change, and pdp would have won.

It is good for us that he did, we needed a change from pdp government for things to be done differently

The Fayose is role model crew dare not back down from this assertion Of his, he is their mouthpiece, they've always applauded every asinine act & comment that have been placed in the public domain so they have no choice but to agree with him on this as well.....

This MOFO hasn't paid salary since October, he isn't sharing money to party jobbers anymore (I like this, lazy people don't deserve handouts), they were really shaken by the Aluko story cos they never dreamt that amount of money passed through their formerly beloved oshoko's hands...

His version of lastma seriously dealing with motorists (nice as well, people should learn to obey the law).

They also were so enraged that he is now seeking to be on good terms with other SW governors & states (particularly Aregbe) that he has consistently called names & used as examples of the bullet they dodged by not returning Fayemi.

See badmouthing cheesy... I just dey laugh dem for my Belle cos if I laugh out, they'd be seriously offended cos they are really really pained. cheesy

Same PDP ideology. "They are thieves but call us thieves as if they are not stealing"

Nobody comes out to say we are not thieves.
