Why Deceive Ourselves With This "Gender Equality" Phrase by mazizitonene(m): 11:36am On Feb 10, 2016
so i came across this thread of gender equality that was raised on the floor of enugu house of assembly on FP. And after going through the thread i was forced to ask thus: "why all this talk about gender equality, women being equal to men when it comes to jobs, opportunities, good tidings alone" but when it comes to tedious, risky dangerous tasks, you will hear this same women telling us that we are men, we should face the challenges, protect our families, fight and die for our country (in military, army, wars). these women would not want to agitate for gender equality from that angle, they are just looking for where it will suit them and be shouting gender equality up and down and some people forming "civilization" would support them, meanwhile if there is a problem or war or a dangerous tedious task, they will start looking for men folks to go and sacrifice themselves, are we not just deceiving ourselves and letting this women/so-called feminist play on our intelligence ?

IMO, gender can never be equal, the man was created superior to the woman hence our nature. even the bible, quran most religions attest to this fact. people know this truth, but will want to fit into western craze-set (even most of them in that western world know the truth), follow trend to claim civilization/enlightened, we can only give them some fraction to occupy, not to drag 50/50 with men............civilization of gender equality gbakwa oku

in the words of bruce, just wanna make common sense wink

As a real woman I will never fight for gender equality, I would rather develop my skills, contribute my quota to the development and betterment of the people around me and the world in general, I am my own competition and do not need any male validation to be all I can be .@mazizitonene men are not superior to women, just like men are different from each other so are people, gender or no gender.and that uniqueness is the rainbow that make our world beautiful.

men are not superior to women. Gender equality is about equal opportunities and equal rights and we should stop bringing in religion when are are talking about laws. If we want to be talking about religions then lets go all the way and not pick and choose what suits us. I'am sure in your years of education you've come across women who are smarter than you and i'am sure there are women are are physically stronger than you. Gender equality is about giving opportunities to who ever is best, you can choose to practice whatever you want in your relationships that's prerogative as long as you can find a spouse who reasons like you . But in the general society (work place, schools e.t.c )you should put that aside. We are talking about things like women should be able to inherit property just like their brothers, landlords should only be interested in paying ability (income) not your sex or marital status. Passport office should not be asking a woman to get a letter of consent from her husband when no man will be required to provide such. As an adult a woman should be able to get a passport on her own merit, its only when children are concerned that the consent of both parents should be needed.

that's not all women, not all women believe in gender equality just like not all men do. I personally would never say such a thing and neither will the women i know. we want equality in every area. Those women you are talking about are still stuck in the traditional frame of mind while trying to adapt. We advocate for gender equality in the military and every industry and that is why today we have more women in industries that before were considered as male industries.

plus when you are talking about people speaking out of both sides of their mouth its the same with many Nigerian men. They want their wives to go to work for the same hours as them and share the bills at home but when you talk about house chores and taking care of the kids then you'll hear those are women's roles. So both of you will go to work for the same hours , sit in the same traffic and share the bills but she's expected to come home and still cook and deal with the kids alone and then you'll call her the weaker sex when she's doing double what you are

You will agree though that a lot of women use this gender equality drive for thier own benefit. There are those who will purse the gender equality agenda as long as it benefits them. Honestly I havent seen women push for more female mechanics or more female petty labourers or that a man can be rescued in preference to a woman in danger situations e.g a sinking ship.

Of course most human beings will use anything for their own good just like the men who have no problem with women taking on "traditional" male roles like paying bills in the family, then you'll be hearing couples are meant to help each other but they will remember tradition when it comes to them helping the woman out on the home front. The whole point of gender equality is the women who want to labourers or mechanics should be allowed to, i've seen more female mechanics now than ever. It's about parents and the society not discouraging female kids from certain jobs and only pushing them towards marriage.

True.
I know of a couple where the man comes home from work by 5pm while the wife returns by 8pm. And yet he will still sit down on his behind and wait for his wife to come home to start cooking and cleaning and washing. He doesn't life a single finger to help. That is a plain lazy man. No man who loves his wife will sit down and watch her suffer like that. The least he can do is help.

Exactly, can you imagine lipsrsealed. His type will soon start dating one single girl with no worries and enough time to pamper herself and blame his wife saying has let herself go grin how won't she look 2ce his age . In that relationship now he will still open his mouth to call her the weaker sex while she works twice as hard as him

I think it all boils down to character. Women can be cunning too.
I haven't seen any female mechanic. I guess location matters as well.

Think we are abusing this equality of a thing.

Am not an advocate of feminism, equal rights.

I believe men are superior, because they are stronger, while women are delicate.

Rather we compliment each other , while the man is stronger in physical abilities, women are smarter and unlike men, have the abilities of managing many thoughts and ideas unlike man that can't handle multiple tasks.

Women should indeed be independent but not too independent when they get their men. We should be able to work hand in hand.

Men can't survive without the woman and vise versa.

I think what you mean is men have superior strength generally(because I'm pretty sure I'm physically stronger than some men somewhere)?

Not trying to change or influence your views but you saying men are superior and still trying to state things or areas you feel women are better than men is kinda counter productive.

When you talk about equality you are talking about 50-50, a perfect 50, with no -1 or 0. attached to it, which is impossible in reality.
What i am saying is equality does not exist, not just in terms of gender but also in all spheres of life.
The thing we should be advocating for is mutual respect. Respecting one another irrespective of who we are, is all that matters.

I understand you,
What I mean is that we genders compliment eachother , where the man is normally physically stronger the woman is psychologically stronger.
You may be stronger than some men, it's just like seeing some women with beard which is not supposed to be .
No one is better than the other, where one lacks the other fills the blank.

Ok but I guess you're only saying no gender is superior to the other. Which is what I was trying to point out.

before some peeps misconstrue gender equality as sex equality let me give a brief definition to the both.

sex.
it means the biological difference between a man and woman which is not socially constructed and it is universal e.g all men are born with penis while the woman with the vjayjay.

both men and women folk can not be the same.

gender.
it is the difference roles assigned to both sexes l.e male and female which is socially constructed and differs from country to country and continent to continent.

e.g, in some countries people see it as a taboo for men to cook while other country see it as no biggie.

men pay bride price in Nigeria while women pay groom price in India.

not every man is strong and not every woman is weak and fragile.

this is why "gender equality" term was coined to give rooms for the differences.

let women who feel they re strong and love tedious job be given the opportunity to do that. they can go into the military and engineering without being discriminated on.

let's men who wish to be cooks, nurses, road side akara fryer be given the opportunity to do that without been discriminated on.

men can be house husbands if they wish to and their wives bread winners.

this issue has been too over flogged. the major reason people challenge this is because of inadequate knowledge of the aforementioned term.

gender equality those not in any way means all sexes will behave alike, it means any of the sex be it male or female who feel they can give their onus in any field should be given the opportunity irrespective of their sex.

women in Saudi Arabia are not allowed to drive cars because the men feel when women do they would challenge the men folks.

To your question, if I feel I am courageous enough to join in the fight why not I should be allowed.

we have more female than male in most settings women should be allowed to try their hands in different spheres to aid productivity.

Why not, female soilders are showing they are ready to face equality in danger. There are families in which when you hear a noise outside and you think it may be a robber the woman will be the one to first get a bat and go check it out grin No gender is superior to the other, human beings should be judged on an individual bases and the truth is one on one many women will beat many men in most spheres of life

You need to stop focusing on physical strength, it's already established that physically the average man is stronger than the average woman due to the build. However physical strength is just one out of many things, women can as well say the fact that they give birth means they are superior to men . I'am sure there are men who are physically stronger than you but does that make them superior to you? The fact is men or women we all have different strengths and areas in which we excel but that does not make one superior to the other. Even within the same sex we will have different areas in which we excel more than the other but that doesn't make you superior . As humans we are all equals.

The same way you feel superior to women because you are physically stronger than them is the way whites felt ( some still feel so) they were superior to blacks because of they were more technologically advanced.
