my closest friend got a visa to travel to the US on a virgin passport, he filled that he will be staying with a friend in new jersey in DS-160. but unfortunately, the friend is currently in Dubai.
my friend wants to file ticket that will get him to chicago. is this in anyway wrong thing to do?
really i should ask: WHAT HAPPENS IF YOU ARRIVE AT THE POINT OF ENTRY OTHER THAN THE ONE STATED ON YOUR DS-160?
i really want this to get to the front page, so as to get as much of information as possible.

I could not make it. When i wanted to leave Nigeria. I got tickets for california, New york and New jersey. Opted for new jersey and was not asked why i wanted newjersey instead of Atlanta.
They will ask for how long you are stayong, your hotel reservations and co.
My Visa was B1/B2

I really can't predict wot the customs/immgration officer will have to say abt that issue...my doc include Baltimore and he said "how long u staying in baltimore" "do you have a relative in baltimore" I replied..he stampd my Documnt nd I procedd...if ur visa include atalanta try book a motel in atalant spend few nite and travel your way to chicago

Theres no problem. I filed in my ds160 i was going to visit a friend in chicago. But when i was ready to go, my frined was having her finak exams. So i bought a ticket to miami to visit anither friend and i had no problem at POE.

It's not wrong at all. Plans are subject to change always. Like someone rightly said, all you need to do is Have a hotel reservation in state(Chicago) handy and return ticket. You'd be fine. Safe trip in advance

That's exactly what I wanted to clarify. You've toured US before?...what is one likely to encounter @ d port of entry?

I traveled to the US last October. However, at my visa interview in june I told the VO I planned to travel in July. She also asked me about who I was going to stay with, what he did, etc.
At the POE in Atlanta, CBP agents grilled me for an hour on why I didn't travel in June, and they also vetted EVERY PIECE OF INFORMATION I SUPPLIED at my interview 4 months earlier before I was allowed into the US.
1. Do not alter your story as much as possible at the POE. A visa technically is A REQUEST FOR PERMISSION to enter a country, not an automatic gateway. ICE and CBP agents can still turn you back at the POE if they're not satisfied after conducting their own interview.
2.. Have at least $1000 as money you intend to spend during your visit, especially for a B2 tourist visa, as they do not believe you're serious about your intention if you have anything less.
