No you don't need to be... In all honesty, these Enugu people couldn't have done any better, they were taking unawares, imagine invading a community by 3 am, what do you expect them to do by that time? This carnage was done with full impramatur of the president, and as such the community fell for this dastardly act. What we should be considering now is how to stop further acts from occurring. We should try to be vigilant at all times.
How were they caught unawares? How can people who got prior notice of an attack suddenly became caught unawares. Why didn't the youths of the community mobilize themselves to forestall the attack? Tell that your cock and bull story to fellow weakling as your Governor. If it were in the past, the youths of that community would have been publicly stripped naked, flogged and banished. What insolence?
A group of fools saw signs that some nomadic herdsmen were planning to attack their village, rather than arm themselves and lie in wait, the coward efulefu's all went to bed early and pretended as if nothing would happen. If I may ask, how can a handful of herdsmen come to a community, kill, rape, pillage and overpower agile grown ups in their ancestral land. It's unheard of, especially in Igboland for that matter. Ew! Chineke ekwele ihe ojo. Inshort, that area should be ceeded to the middle belt, I am beginning to doubt the genetics of those weaklings.

My condolences goes to all members of the community may they never witness such again.

If there was any indication or prior warning then the army really failed this community and something needs to be done to find lasting peace all over.

This cycle of violence has been going on in that community for several decades. They are strong enough and have been fighting with herdsmen as well. In this instance the herdsmen employed mercenaries but still resisted by the youths. The casualties is not as reported.

Every Igbo person should be worry and wary about this new development in Uzo-uwani in Enugu state because we may not know where next they might visit, they're like cancer that spread from one spot to another.
The Governor of Enugu is not even helping matter at all, while travel to Abuja with a smiling face while your kinsmen are being butchered like ram?

They've been visiting everywhere not only Enugu State. Almost every State in Nigeria has been attacked yearly by herdsmen in the past 10 years.

Does it mean you cannot be useful to yourself and your poor mother? Why have you decided that your occupation must be Nairaland? You have been online throughout yesterday till past midnight and as early as 6am you resumed work on the same Nairaland. And this has been the trend. Why are you virtually on every thread commenting like a madman on issues that you know nothing about? Life must be really really miserable for you. Get a life outside NL for once. Tufia!

Oga read well before you comment. Learn to understand the difference between an open invasion of a community and secret killings of farmers in the bush. One is an affront, the order is an act of cowardice. And I have every reason to doubt the genetics of those cry babies. They are a big disgrace to the SE.

I hate when Igbos try to feel themselves better than their fellow Igbos even when they face same challenges. Nimbo people have been fighting with herdsmen for ages. The herdsmen hired mercenaries from Adamawa why can't you IPOB support the Nimbo people? You cannot deny having full knowledge of the planned invasion.

My take is we should adopt these there basic approach which
i. Searching every truck transports cows and it equivalent within the region.
ii. Creating security group that will foresee every activities undertaken in our forests. Track down herdsmen with illegal fire arm.
iii. Creat a policy that ensures herdsmen respect their host community.

Nothing will work except we all cooperate to apply a lasting solution. Like I wrote earlier herding is outdated and there should be steps towards its total abolishment. Thats the only way out.

how do you fight people with ak 47 if you do not have similar or superior weapon? I'm surprised that an Imo citizen could portray such attitude found amongst one of our neighbouring States. Meanwhile same thing has been happening in Imo and other States for decades.

Mr Man, not every Igboman is an IPOB member. If the herdsmen hired mercenaries from Adamawa, as you would want us to believe, what stop them from mobilizing every Igbo youth they could find in the whole local government nay Nsukka area to come to their aid? What even stop them from going into the bush and ransacking the camps of the hired herdsmen before they could strike? Don't forget the villagers know the area better than the imported herdsmen. They know the terrain and that's a big advantage they have over the travelling herdsmen. Okay let's say the herdsmen were over 100 that travelled as far as Nassarawa for the invasion? If not laxity, can a 100 men sack a community with able bodied youths of close to 5000. Killing at will, raping, burning houses, cars and properties worth millions for hours without no atom of physical confrontation from fleeing youths with prior knowledge of the attacks. Not even one herdsman was hacked down.

Nothing of such invasion has ever happened in Imo state nay other SE states. No Imo village have it been reported were sacked while fleeing fulani herdsmen attacks. Not even in Agwu in the same Enugu with recurrent herdsmen clashes.
Please do not equate the gruesome hacking of Ukpabi Nimbo people caused by their own docility with pockets of secret killings of individual farmers in bushes. What happened in Ukpabi Nimbo is unprecedented and portends a bad influence on other communities in Igboland. The worst is that the people within the Uzo-Uwani axis knew of the herdmen invasion, yet did little to confront them.

That is not true, you're a liar. This never happened in this scale during PDP era. These Fulani herdsmen suddenly gained traction because their man is now the C-in-C, what was obtainable in he past i.e. During GEJ era was skirmishes between herdsmen and farmers. But never has it been heard that the herdsmen invaded a community in Igbo land by 3am. You can lie to yourself for all you can, it's not going to change a thing.

Thank God this happened at a time ICC is in Nigeria investigating the many crimes Buhari committed and is still committing.

Chiwude, there's something you're missing. First, you should have inquired how these attacks were carried out. To be honest these attacks couldn't have happened if not that the attackers where aided and abetted by the Nigerian security apparatchik, apparently acting on the orders of the president.

Let me ask you, what do you expect the community to do when they heard the rumors that they will be invaded, as a responsible people they took the matter to their community leader who in turn complained to the governor and police men where sent in, naturally the presence of the police assured the community of security, so they had not cause to be cautious, but to go about their normal business with confidence.

The police knew the herdsmen were coming and so they gave way. The village bell was rang at about 3am, the villagers of course thought everything was normal (after all they had police presence) and were coming out for meeting only to be ambushed by buharis brothers. To be honest their was nothing those people could have done. Eventually, when they got momentum and mobilized themselves for a reprisal against the fulanis only then did the Army and all other security apparatchik came calling just to foil their attack.

When you look at the nuances of this crisis it calls to mind the ceasless claims some of us have been making since aeon that there is a plot underway to Islamist Nigeria by Buhari. What we should be thinking now is not placing blame on innocent people who have died, but how to stand up to the wicked Plot of Buhari and his murderous military, because to tell you the truth defeating the herdsmen is the easiest thing any community can do, but unfortunately these herdsmen are abetted by the Nigerian military.

One way we can achieve a consensus against Buhari and his murderous ambition is to keep enlightening our people on the dangers of buahri and his wicked ambition and the need for us to stand up strongly against him. I have no single doubt that this act has the impramatur of the president.

Kukuma agree that buhari is the worst thing to happen to Nigeria in the past one year.
How can some youths rise to defend their people in awgu and they were jailed by the army and buhari kept quiet? Is it not even disappointing how we hear the army officers are withdrawn from security points prior to attacks and released only when the damage is done? And when locals protest these, they will be jailed. If these directives are not from buhari, why hasn't he brought the army to book?

For a president who rode on the altar of security to get to power, he should be impeached. I wish him the death he planned for others.

Common, think about it this way, how do you think there will be a fair fight between the community and herdsmen and their will be no casualties on both sides. Even if the herdsmen defeated the community (which I can say with full confidence that it can never happen) the herdsmen will also sustain countless casualties, but to tell me that a whole community was attacked and no one single herdsman sustained any injury or at least died, then something must be fishy.

I was discussing with my friend two days ago over this incident and he said 'this kind of thing can never happen in Anambra, Enugu people are too dormant'. I told him no sir, you can't be too sure, this is not about which people are dormant or not, this is about a war being declared against a people. You should know that the Fulani herdsmen are acting with full cooperation and coordination with the NA. The police gives them all th information they need and they carry out their attacks with confidence.

So, the idea that it can never happen in so so and so place to me is amateur. Yeah, it cannot happen anywhere in the Igbo land - if the fulanis are acting by their own power, but what makes the difference here is that the Nigerian army is abetting them, and that is why our people need to be on alert, we shouldn't trust the NA or police to give us security, instead we should begin by setting up indigenous vigilante group backed by state laws which can guarantee our security, I can bet you now no community in Igbo land is safe.

Ok, take for example, didn't you remember sometime ago when the Abia people held a protest against unlawful invasion of their land, did you remember what happened to them? Where they not arrested and tortured by the NA? How do you place that, that fulanis were rampaging people's land and when the victims protested they were beaten up by the NA. This is to tell you that the Army is complicit here and we are at war.

The basic thing to do is for us to know hat we are at war and begin to make all necessary preparations as people who are at war, let stop all these political correctness and once tell ourselves the truth, buahri has declared war on the SE and SS, and we should give it to him. It is best for use fight and die, than to be killed for nothing. And knowing this is the reason why I will never support the APC govt, and I keep laughing at the igbos who cajole Nnamkdi Knau, well only time will tell. Defenders hardly win battles. Attackers do!

If you fail to attack your enemy, he will see it as cowardice and do it again. Its a simple principle of war. Attacking is the best line of defence. When you attack sensibly and kill many unawares, they will be scared. Attack multiple times as if you are addicted to killing them. They will grow so horrified that they will need to migrate. You need to create fear unprecedented that the only option is to run.

Don't ask anyone to defend, ask them to attack. Keep killing until u get blood lust when u smell them from afar, that is how you build defence.

Starr donating money to buy weapons and start killing people. Be your own militant.

Look for them, catch them and kill everything they have.

I agree with the bolded that we need to set up a mobile, organised and well armed vigilante group in all rural parts of Igboland, at least to forestall and crush all future attacks on our rural communities. This is what responsible governments in the SE/SS should consider doing at these trying times. However, I don't support your view that President Buhari is secretly behind the sponsored Fulani herdsmen attacks, but I want to believe that some sinister northern hegemony are backing these invasions to give legal grounds for the easy passage of the grazing reserve bill. A bill that may commence the dissolution of Nigeria if pushed through.

I'm an astute follower of the principle of attack before defence. The Fulani herdsmen are having their way because they practice this principle and Igboland shouldn't be any difference if we must survive these onslaught, whether they (fulani's) are backed by the military or not. It's high time we start giving these invaders a dose of their own medicine.

They had had also contacted the commissioner of police in Kofi state. Accordinding to him ,d police commissioner gave him assurances that d ASP SARS was already in the area. The attack occurred around 5 am. There is a current investigation into the activities if one corporal...to cut long story short , the current commissioner of police in Enugu should be removed. The military came in later and disarmed people.
