Can you imagine! I think the FRSC needs to sensitive the vulcanizers on this. I think this is less costlier than saving accident victims. May God help our nation. Everything is so upside down

I can bet you that FRSC and VIO don't know jack as well. if they know, why are they not educating Nigerians besides speed limit

When we have illiterates as ur vulcanizers. What else do u expect? Someone who could not merge numbers together in school, how will he now be able to knw the actual figures to blow into a tire. May God help us. In USA, no matter any job/profession you want to go into, you have to enrol in a professional school before you start. Even to be a barber you must enrol for barbing professional training which comes with certificate.
funny enough, uneducated as you perceive them to be, they have been taught about these facts....and why you still the compare naija with USA? we no be mate with them na .. besides, if you so desire the services of such vulcanizers, go to places like "coscharis" , "elizade" and their likes, my friend i tell you, body go tell you whatsaaap.

Mine are 30PSI all round plus spare which is the recommended cold tyre pressure. I don't surpass this pressure value.
Despite making this known to all my clients, I have some clients who would always assert, "Bros, no be today I don dey drive motor, na 50/60 psi I dey pump am and nothing dey happen. Na only chinko tyres need small air pressure."

Some car painters also spray paint over the tyre pressure info sticker when spraying a car.

Another key problem is the number of people we convey in the car at a time. Every car has recommended number of passengers but we typically exceed this by 'lapping' and packing ourselves into vehicles like sardines. This puts pressure on already over inflated tyres

The question is - how many FRSC officials know about this? I can bet you that they even pump above the required capacity of their vehicles.

This is really enlightening @ OP

Worn out and old tyres should even use lower pressure PSI for safety .Over inflated wornout tyres are dangerous, but anything goes in Nigeria.

Good morning everyone. Many people have been wondering what could be the cause of the incessant tyre burst accidents on Nigerian roads. The major cause is that we put to much pressure in our tyres. How did I know?

I was preparing for a journey, I changed some of my tyres and I asked the vulcanizer that ' what is the recommended tyre pressure? ' He said 50. I said alright, he should inflate it to 50 all round.

When I got to where I was going, I was discussing with some ppl on the issue of the minister that died on the road due to a burst tyre and wonder what could have happened because nobody could imagine a minister would be travelling with expired tyres as many would think is the major cause of tyre burst.

A man ( lived in US for many years ) said that the major cause of tyre burst in Nigeria is that we put to much pressure in our tyres and that each car has recommended tyre size and pressure clearly written on it by the manufacturer. I was surprised and begged him to come and show me where it's written on my car. To my greatest surprise, it's by the drivers door which I enter everyday without noticing it. By the time we checked, the recommended pressure for my tyres is 32! and I just traveled with tyres on a pressure of 50! He took me round his compound and showed me that of the cars (which includes a jeep and a sienna) there, the highest was 32. some were even 29!

He further explained that tyres are made of rubber and expands at high temperature. So, when yu are travelling in the afternoon when the asphalt on the road is hot, the tyre will want to expand. If the pressure in the tyre is to much and wouldn't accommodate the expansion, a burst is likely to happen at that time.

Pls check the recommended tyre pressure for your vehicle and others you know.

@ Lalastica, kindly do the needful, as many as possible Nigerians needs to read this.
thanks

Tyre pressure is also written on tyres.

Its crass illitracy.

The vulcanizer near me here will continue pumping until some tyres burst inside his shop here..

Mumu too much for naija .

Who is more of an illiterate, the car owner who doesn't know the fundamentals about his car. Just like saying the petrol attendants should know the number of litres of PMS ur vehicle tank can take. A lot of people don't even who how many KG of luggages their car can conveniently carry with the recommended number of passengers.

You are still a learner. The FRSC is more concerned with expiry date of tyres so that they can impound cars and collect egunje from car owners. Educating people on correct pressure guage will not put money in their pockets so it is a no no for them.
Look at the useless report that they issued on the Ekiti doctors accident.

From my findings different car manufacturers have der recommended tire pressure for each car, but generally the max tire pressure for any car should neva exceed 44psi it's on the Internet u can Google it. But for me I don't do more Dan 40psi to be on the safe side 29-32psi doesn't allow me enjoy my driving almost like it doesn't roll freely.

The full responsiblity and duty of care lies with the car owner and whoever drives the vehicle.

As usual in Nigeria, we tend to behave and believe we know more than the car manufacturers, hence we invent our own laws.

Moreover, majority of car owners don't obey simple traffic instructions, then how can we expect them to take time to know about basic information on their vehicles.

We in Nigeria are the main architect of our misfortune.

A naija vulcanize will pump tire to 30 with his machine.. go back home and use a personal tire pump machine to gauge that same tire and you will be surprised to see 65psi

I just bought four brand new tires yesterday (A Three - 205 by 65) and it is boldly written on them that the air pressure should be 44psi. What should I do considering the fact that what is written on my car is not up to that.

Usually...what's written on tires is the Maximum PSI the tire was manufactured to accept. As you know tire manufactures make tires to fit different car brands and models so it's more likely your car's PSI won't be up to 44. I strongly suggest you go with what the car manufacturer recommends.

GREAT EDUCATION HERE! ALSO MAJORITY OF THOSE THAT PURCHASE FAIRLY USED TYRES END UP GETTING EXPIRED TYRES. MAJORITY OF PERSONS DO NOT KNOW TYRES HAVE MANUFACTURING DATE. A GOOD TYRE COULD BE USED FOR. A MAXIMUM OF 4-5 YEARS FROM DATE OF MANUFACTURING.

FOR THE CHINA TYRE, I RECOMMEND THAT YOU DISCARD AFTER 3 YRS FROM DATE OF MANUFACTURING

Do you mean date of purchase or date of manufacturing? Because tires may be up to a year or two in stock before being sold. Does that mean it has exhausted 1 or 2 years of its useful life even when unused in storage?
