Peruse my post again.I said teams become elites based on their performance since the inception of that tournament not on how many semi-finals they have made within a certain period.Spain made their first quarter finals in the 30's and have made about 4\5 more in the tournament.Alongside the Netherlands, they were termed 'underachievers' because they were one of the few elites that had failed to win the trophy before 2010.Spain has long been a WC elite even before the 50's.

Based on what performance?..Teams who go to World cup tourneys go there with the mindset of winning it,not enlarging the number of Quarterfinals they have played,cause if it is by that logic then Sweden are World Cup elites.

Spain were not termed Underachievers because they were World Cup elites..no.They were termed underachievers because they had the players who could carry them far in the World Cup,but never did.

This is complete rubbish. Spain were one of the favourites(joint Favourites with Brazil with a few and outright favourites with others)to win the worldcup based on their exploits in 2008. Now If you had said very few gave them a chance going into Euro 2008, then you would have had a point.

Again I don't know what bookmaker you use but Spain were marginal favourites with EVERY bookie vs Germany in 2010. Infact many chuckled at the prediction of octopus paul.

The last paragraph though is spot on. They were not Worldcup elites before 2010
