I noticed, using flight radar online sites that all or majority of Asia and middle east bound flights that took off from mmia lagos flies out of naija from lag via abuja, through bauchi in the air. Why don't dey just take d short cut of Lagos thru calabar and follow dat trajectory to their destination?

3. On board aero from Abj to lagos around 11pm some months back, we cruised at 18000 to 20000 feet on a small plane. Was scary because I was used to 33000feet or so. What influences the choice of cruising altitude other than the air traffic controller?

4.when pilots "tears through" thick dark clouds in d air,do they still have visibility from d cockpit irrespective of how dark d cloud is?

5. Someone once said from geography days dat it rains from our atmosphere and that planes flies above our atmosphere. In other words, rain nor dey beat aeroplane lol! Is it correct or wrong?

6.dont dey take communication classes in pilot training? Why do pilots talk so fast that dey don't seem to care if the passengers picked what they said so fast or not?

If the money is not the problem, he should go to aviation school abroad (say US or Canada). He would get a job almost immediately after passing out. Pilots achievements are not calculated by qualifications and degrees, rather by type ratings and flying hours. The earlier he starts this the better for him. That's in my own opinion.
But if otherwise he can get a degree in Nigeria before going to aviation school. Just to increase his chances of getting something else asides flying in future. But the degree won't add to his pilot career.

why is helicopter pilot training costier?

Helicopter is a more complicated machine than fixed wing. It's more tasking to fly, and you keep adjusting to maintain balance throughout the flight mission. Unlike fixed wings. Helicopter pilots earn more than fixed wings pilot too (assuming same experience).

Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (NCAT) train fixed wing pilots for 9million (ppl, cpl, IR);
International Helicopter Flying School Enugu train helicopter (PPL, CPL, IR) 20 million.
International Aviation College Ilorin, fixed wings (ppl,cpl, IR) 12.9million.
So rotary wing flying is almost twice the cost of fixed wing.

When entering a country's airspace, you have to check in with the ATC, so once you enter you gats to Holla at them, same when you are leaving, the said arik flight has to inform Benoise ATC, for example this is W3 approaching xyz at FLXXX, and ATC responds W3 Maintain FLXXX and contact approach on 123. The pilot acknowledges by reading back the same information. Simplified though.

2. It's not that simple, there are a lot of considerations made when planning a flight such as wind, time, traffic, curvature of the earth etc.

3. The small plane, a propeller plane . It can't fly up 30000ft, that's the key thing. If you fly higher, it's faster and burn more fuel.


4. That's why we instrument rated. We can navigate without looking outside our cockpit. " Instrument flying opens your mind to the fact that there is vision beyond sight"

5. Yes. In a matter of minutes, the plane ascends above the rain.

6. Nor vex, not all the pilots talk fast. It may be a rub off from frequent communication with ATC who talk like they have hot yams in their mouths.

Let's talk about helicopters. This are awesome piece of machine. With ability to take off and land anywhere. Providing an open space or clearance for its rotors. There are 3main components that enables an helicopter to maintain steady flight. 1. The cyclic.- for forward and backward during flight. 2. The collective- for engine (power) for lift and increase in flight or landing as the case maybe..more power more lift..3- Anti - torque pedals. This pedals controls the tail rotor. this turns the nose of the helicopter either to left or right. Depending on the direction of flight. It also acts as a mechanism for keeping the helicopter stable in flight.. Looking at how an helicopter works. We have the main rotors... Which is those long blades which spins from left to right at incredible speed... While we have the tail rotor.. Small blades are the rear end for countering the main rotor force which keeps it stable. And finally the engine.... Depending on the type of helicopter... There are various sizes and engine types... Piston powered for very light aircraft. And jet turbines for medium to large size helicopters.

that's what i was referring to on the pc platform... But Microsoft abandoned the software since 2009...try xplane... The developers still release updates as at 2016.. But the addons plenty... And its graphics demanding... U can almost run FSX on 1GB ram pc.

it's part of their trianing Multi -engine rating, Instrument rating, and Night rating. as a matter of fact, they wait for bad weather conditions during their training phase in the flight school , to handle situations better. in the case of low visibility, they rely on their instruments (that's why they need instrument rating), and the ATC (Air Traffic Controller), he coordinates traffic in the air, who gives the pilot minute to minute update about the weather condition as he (the ATC) is in direct contact with with metreololgists . They both are under NAMA (Nigerian Airspace Management Agency)

Meteorologists are under NIMET. (Nigerian Meterological Agency) while ATC (Air Traffic Controllers) and ATE (Air Traffic Engineers) are under NAMA.

Nimet deals with weather reports while NAMA offers CNS( Communications, Navigation and Surveillance) to all aircrafts in Nigerian Airspace.
They are two different agencies but work hand in hand.

My able boss captain, I am indeed very loyal to have come across this your thread. I practically not a fan of airplanes as they always make my heart beat to much but I usually don't have a choice when I have to use them especially when traveling out of the country.

Right now sir, I am totally into corporate hospitality services and I usually work somehow like a freelance marketer with some top hotels around Ikeja and close to the airport.

Being that you work in the aviation industry please is there a way you can link me up with some of these multi national companies that do lodge in hotels on a regular basis.
