Aisha Buhari & Jefferson Bribery: Fayose Revives Aisha's 'Role' by Aspireahead(m): 12:03am On Jun 21, 2016
Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, on Monday revived a controversy surrounding the role played by Aisha, President Muhammadu Buhari’s wife, in the messy bribery scandal involving U.S. Congressman, Williams Jefferson.
Mr. Fayose distributed a link to the U.S. Department of Justice Web site holding court documents where Mrs. Buhari was alleged to have transferred suspicious funds to a convicted former American congressman, Williams Jefferson.
In a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Idowu Adelusi, Mr. Fayose said President Buhari was far from being a clean man.
“Even the President cannot claim to be an angel,” the governor said, in reaction to the freezing of his Zenith Bank account by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
“The estate he built in Abuja is known to us. His wife was indicted over the Halliburton Scandal (sic). When that American, Jefferson, was being sentenced, the President’s wife was mentioned as having wired $170,000 to Jefferson. Her name was on page 25 of the sentencing of Jefferson. We can serialize the judgment for people to see and read.”
The governor’s Special Assistant on New Media, Lere Olayinka, later circulated links to and copies of the court document detailing Mrs Buhari’s mention in the scandal.
The documents showed that in some of the exhibits tendered in convicting Mr. Jefferson of bribery, a Mrs. Buhari was mentioned as transferring $170,000 to the American politician using a firm as proxy.
“Government Exhibits 36-87 (6/26/02 $170,000 wire transfer from account in Nigeria in the name of Aisha Buhari to an account in the name of The ANJ Group, LLC, identifying “William Jefferson” as Beneficiary),” the U.S. Government Sentencing Memorandum said on page 22.

Mrs. Buhari could not be reached for comments. And Presidential spokesman, Femi Adesina, declined comments, saying he would need to check the documents himself before issuing an official statement.
Mr. Fayose’s comment sparked a recollection of how Mr. Jefferson, between 2000 and 2005, used his position as member of the U.S. House of Representatives to offer illegal services to private companies for cash rewards.
Mr. Jefferson and his family, according to U.S. authorities, received about $367,500 through through his firm, ANJ Group, for services rendered to iGate, an American broadband technology provider.
An indigenous firm, Netlink Digital Television, had signed a joint venture with iGate to set up digital satellite TV and broadband Internet services in the country. NDTV was owned by Oyewole Fasawe, a PDP chieftain at the time.
Mr. Jefferson was contracted to help promote iGate and NDTV partnership in Nigeria.
Following a lengthy trial, Mr. Jefferson was convicted in 2009 and sentenced to 13 years in prison.
Although Mr. Fasawe was arrested in 2005 by the EFCC, he was never convicted.
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar were also said to be a person of interest in the allegations.
A report released by the EFCC on June 22, 2006 about the bribery scandal indicated that the commission investigated accounts held by Mrs. Buhari, including one she had with Citizens Bank.
A 2007 New York Times’ article detailed how Mrs. Buhari told an acquaintance in Washington that she was a daughter of a former Nigerian head of state and a friend of Mr. Jefferson.
“As the pair struck up a conversation and subsequently became friends, Mr. Assiba, then a security guard, said she told him that her father was the former military ruler of Nigeria, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, and that her American friends included politicians like Mr. Jefferson of Louisiana.”

Sometimes I can't help but wonder the difference between this man's reasoning prowess and that of the vulcaniser who lived at the end of my street. This guy is a governor and one would have expected him to reason better, na wa oo!

Meanwhile, Buhari's daughter named Aisha must be arrested.

Fayose is pulling more than what he bagain for. U can not continue to run down govt and u think u are safe. Fayose wont go scot free. U can not be making grevious allegations as if u are late Gani fawehinmi whereas u have skeletons in ur cupboard. When he was collecting money he did not remember immunity or rule of law. He can use his position to steal and influence election without considering rule of law but ur acct is frozen now he is shouting immunity and rule of law. What a sori gov?

The scandal is old news. It's also old news that we nigerians don't know left from right.
Even after quoting us court documents and supposedly providing links that WE ALL CAN VERIFY, some of us are warning the governor?!
Instead of us to demand that the presidency must comment on the allegations, while warning the fg to investigate thoroughly and to ensure it doesn't break the law where a sitting gov is concerned-
Whether we like him or not.
My pipul. Wen we go wise na?

PMB has already given orders for the Halliburton case to be re-opened months ago following a request by the U.S Gov't. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/07/182m-halliburton-scandal-buhari-orders-preparation-of-case-file/

As usual, this cheap distraction from the ponmo-dicing governor will be ignored.

While we want the Halliburton case brought to a logical conclusion no matter who is indicted, the investigation of Fayose's accounts remain the prime focus at the moment.

The harder he tries to distract, the harder EFCC's eyes will look at his finances. The train station diplomat can only succeed in digging himself in deeper.

The battle ground has shifted now to a supremacy battle between Sahara Reporters and Premium Times. While d former never see any wrong in whatever d APC does the later which appeared more balanced in their reportage will definitely fight for an egalitarian outcome in this case.

Lying liars!!!!!!!

We've known this a long time.

Judging from the photo that lady is way too old and ugly to be Aisha Buhari. To make matters more interesting she's meant to be a Virginia, USA resident and faced a grand jury concerning the matter.

Quite interesting is the fact that Fayose isn't facing the issue at hand rather he's simply saying he's not the only corrupt person.

http://www.cbsnews.com/news/william-jefferson-and-nigeria/

The New York Times had a long, very interesting piece in Sunday's Business section on some shady sounding Washington lobbyists and their ties to a Nigerian official, Victor H. Attah.

However, of interest to Crypt readers, is a special guest appearance by Rep. William Jefferson (D-La.), he of the long-running corruption investigation and FBI raid.

The NYT had this to say about Jefferson and Aisha Buhari, who may or may not be the daughter of a former military ruler of Nigeria and whom one Nigerian regulator wants arrested by the Justice Department:

"Mr. Ribadu’s agency has asked American authorities to arrest Ms. Buhari. That has not happened, but the Justice Department has an interest in her. Last summer, she testified before a grand jury investigating Mr. Jefferson, the congressman, who is suspected of soliciting bribes from American companies seeking business in Nigeria.

The Nigerian official said that American authorities suspect that Ms. Buhari may have served as a financial conduit for the politician. Mr. Jefferson has not been charged with any crimes and has denied any wrongdoing; his lawyer declined to comment. Mr. Ondeck, whose experience as a lawyer is highlighted on GlobalOptions’ Web site, accompanied Ms. Buhari to the courthouse on the day of her testimony. But he did not go as her lawyer; several years ago, he was disbarred. "

You should read the whole article, it's really well done and provides a fascinating window into a world that rarely sees the light of day.

As for Jefferson, remember that he is the subject of a federal corruption probe involving a high-ranking Nigerian official and a telecommunications contract. FBI agents videotaped Jefferson taking $100,000 from a government informant that was allegedly to be used to bribe this money, and $90,000 was seized from Jefferson's home when the feds raided it a few days later.

I repeat, however, that Jefferson has not been charged with any crime at this point, and he has denied any wrongdoing.

I am ashamed for Fayose cheesy cheesy cheesy

recycling desperate smear jobs from gej's failed campaign. touting a scammer who claimed to be buhari's daughter as buhari's wife cheesy

the noose is closing

all his noise has been a desperate format to paint a picture of persecution when his cup is full

this rubbish was thrashed out during the last election and earlier this year

of course ipob self-service-ers are jumping on it again cheesy

strange that premium times would choose to recycle clearly false news. are they moving into tabloid journalism?

“As for Ms. Buhari, who is living in Virginia, it’s not clear who she really is. For one, she is under investigation in Nigeria by its Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, said its head, Nuhu Ribadu.

Mr. Ribadu said he is uncertain if her name is Aisha Buhari, but he added that she is not a daughter of General Buhari. The former Nigerian ruler agrees.

“I don’t have any relationship with that Aisha Buhari,” Mr. Buhari said. “I don’t have any daughter called Aisha Buhari living outside this country. She is not my daughter.”

Mr. Ribadu’s agency has asked American authorities to arrest Ms. Buhari. That has not happened, but the Justice Department has an interest in her. Last summer, she testified before a grand jury investigating Mr. Jefferson, the congressman, who is suspected of soliciting bribes from American companies seeking business in Nigeria”— New York Times.
