I was also about saying it is not possible but then i remembered that it is possible to actually do 4 years BSC, and do masters twice (still possible if the second masters is a different field and one can justify that it is of benefit or progress to the individual) and then do PHD (4 years). My brother, 10 years don complete be that o.

OR

4 years BSC, 1 year masters, 4 years PHD and then apply for the extra 1 year you are entitled to as a PHD holder (10 years don complete)

OR

Also, it is possible to do 4 years BSC, apply for graduate entrepreneurship visa (1 year) and then do masters (1 year) and then do PHD (4 years).

OR

Go through college, 2 years HND (must be an embedded college to apply within the UK) , 2 years University, 1 year Masters or even do 16 months Masters grin, 4 years PHD and another 1 years guaranteed after PHD. My brother, levels go still set grin

Mehn, the above scenario is crazy. What people do to become citizens, people back home don't just understand. I would rather move to another country than do all this long parol.
Imagine how much one would have spent on fees, visa renewals and IHS surcharge and no more established presence (9 months maintenance fees again) for every application o.

But no be everybody get strength to do PHD, na where the problem dey be that. or some won't just have enough funds to go this route. grin

It is well grin

Graduate Entrepreneur visa? Are you joking?
Anyone who has £200k as personal investment funding is not coming to UK to spend 10 years for ILR. If that person has £50k valid investment funds, he's also definitely not going to spend 10 years for ILR.
Tier 1 visa is 5 years for ILR

To all students who are having trouble because of the fluctuating exchange rate, i think this explains it clearly.

The home office website states that "if you are using overseas currency, we will expect you to show (in writing on your application form) the closing balance in pounds sterling. We use the official exchange rate on the OANDA website. Where your funds are in a currency other than pounds sterling, the amount we consider will be based on the exchange rate for the relevant currency on the date of your application, taken from the rates published on www.oanda.com" source; www.gov.uk (Pages 44&45)

What this means is that the exchange rate that will be used by the home office for the maintenance funds you put in your account for 28 days is the rate as at the date you made the application. Please note that the date of application is the date you made payment online. It is the rate on that particular date that will be used irrespective of if the rate increases before the date of interview.

I think this should give students an idea of what they should work towards.
What's the current rate?
Changing (£11,600 and £9,315) in Naira, kindly help with this using the normal exchange rate.

Thanks

The current Oanda exchange rate for today is .......£1 = 377.947 naira.

At that rate above, £11,600 * 377.947 = 4,384,185.2 naira

9,315 * 377.947 = 3,520,576.30 naira.

Please note, the Oanda rate is only adviced to be used by the home office for maintenance funds and balance of school fees (if any) to be placed in account for 28 days.

Also note that these rates do change on a daily basis (due to the new floating exchange rate by CBN) and the rate for today cannot be relied upon for future calculations. Cheers

You are mixing it up big brethren. The Graduate Entrepreneurship Visa I am talking about is different.

You can apply for a graduate entrepreneurship visa (tier 1 visa) if you have a solid business plan and you have a Uk recognised Bsc or masters degree. You must Also be endorsed by a Unjveristy that is an authorised endorsing body (not all universities can endorse your business plan). If you are applying in uk it will cost you £465 and £342 outside UK.

All you need to show in your bank account is £945 of inside UK or £1,890 if outside Uk. The money must be in your account for 90 days. They will give you 1 year visa and you can also apply for another 1 year after the initial 1 year visa expires.

This graduate entrepreneurship may be good for masters students who wants to quickly make money for 1 year after their masters before returning to Naija.

But the condition is you must have a string business plan, your school must be an authorised endorsing bidy and must have just £945 in your account for 90 days. This is another sure 1 year visa extension route in UK grin

I just checked now and there are close to 100 UK schools that are part of the authorised endorsing body.

Interesting. So with these new rules someone like my friend who legitimately wants to study from pre-degree all the way to PhD, while contributing well over £100000 to them can't?

He can come to the UK to study but if his intention is to get ILR through 10yrs studying here then somebody need to physically restrain him.

Guys, please don't be angry that am taking you guys back. I still want to understand the 28days counting rule. Please come to my rescue. Now this is how the lil ish goes. As at a month or two months back,I had the entire maintenance and tuition in my dad's account intact. Then as at 17th of this month, tuition had been deducted including bank charges @ the rate of 285. Now my questions are: 1. Will it be right to have started counting the 28days from that period? 2. Do I have to start counting presently with the new rate of 377? 3. What's the way forward please. 4. I need to send my statement of account to get my CAS, do I use d cbn rate to calculate the remaining tuition or I use Oanda.com. Please help out. Sorry am dragging you guys back. cc: justwise,OlowoB.

I switched like you and didn't show any maintenance fee. Recently renewed and still didn't. Your sponsor usually guarantees it and UKBA will also be made aware of your salary so no need. You may need to show maintenance funds for other family members though except if your company is applying for them.

You don’t need to have £945 in savings if your sponsor is fully approved (‘A-rated) and they have stated on your certificate of sponsorship that you won’t claim benefits during your stay.

Hello fizzle, if you have any further questions which you need answers to ASAP and you are not getting them on here, you can always contact the International department of your school.

Please also note that my personal opinion will be in black and home office rules will be in blue.

(1) You can use the money your dad has already placed in the account since last year sef provided the money is able to cater for both your maintenance fees and balance of school fees at the current exchange rate on OANDA and the printed bank statement must be recent.

Let me explain in simple terms......you want to print out your bank statement and send to your school to collect your CAS right? Just go to the bank and print out from June 1st to June 29 (that coves the 28 days period). Please make sure that the amount you will print out covers your maintenance fees and balance of school fees at Oanda's current exchange rate (this is what i will suggest). The school will likely use the rate of the day you printed it out (i may be wrong but confirm from the international/Admissions department of your school). After collecting your CAS, use the same bank statement for application of your VISA within 31 days (not more than 31 days).

The home office states that your money must be in the bank for 28 days ending no more than 31 days before the date of your application. Simply put, once printed, use it within 31 days for your application.

(2) The most important thing is that does the money in the account cover your maintenance fees and balance of school fees at the current Oanda Exchange rate? It will be preferable that whichever day you would print out the statement, check the current exchange rate of that day and make sure that when you do the calculations, it covers your maintenance and balance of school fees.

If you will print it out today and send to your school, it is likely that the school will use the current exchange of that day (i doubt they will use the exchange rate of 2 months ago) to judge your statement . I have advised that with this fluctuating exchange rate, to be on the safe side, students should put in extra money in their accounts.

Please if the money you have in your account at the moment (i think you already used the rate of 2 months ago to fix the money) will not be able to cover maintenance fees and balance of your fees at the current exchange rate, DO NOT PANIC. I will suggest you contact your school to seek their opinion before starting another 28 days count.

Home office on their website suggests that they will use exchange rate of the day you submit and pay for your application online but i strongly believe that with this fluctuating exchange rate, once you get your CAS (the school would have also verified your statement of account and trust me, the school needs your money and they would not want you not getting your visa), do your application online and go for your interview with the same statement of account verified by the school, you will get your visa.

For your school fees and maintenance, it is always OANDA rate that you must use.

[b]Finally, for your questions, you are not dragging anyone back. Ask as many as you wish. He who asks, can never go astray. I wish you all the best bro/b]

As Cameron is leaving, the Tories are preparing to vote for their next leader. Boris Johnson is not running. Theresa May is a candidate.

If you school in England, or intend to, better hope that Theresa May doesn't get that role o! grin

She's responsible for the tighter restrictions for overseas students and workers.

As in ehn, that Theresa May NA another wintch. E just be say NA from frying pan to fire. If she becomes PM, I pity all students that will be coming to UK from next year cos that woman will make it very difficult for incoming students.

On the other hand, I still stringly feel UK needs internationals students money and so the only thing that woman may do is to probably remove the extra 4 months they give students after 1 year visa or probably probably ...... Maybe ban students from working (this is almost impossible but that woman can do anything). Definitely that woman will make things more tough for international students, no doubt about it.

See bro, I am only concerned for future students coming to Uk.

And with all the money students pay in Uk, I still feel it is unfair how they are the major ones been affected with all this new immigration rules. Well, I don't blame them, I blame all the past leaders of Naija if not Uk is not even supposed to be near our level as of today. It is well.

To withdraw all that money using the Mastercard? How many times will (s)he do it? Don't forget all Nigerian banks now put limits of daily withdrawals, and they charge for each withdrawal.

Such a shame that we're in this situation now. In early 2013, I was able to withdraw up to £1000 cash in UK from my Nigerian account.

Your friend should find another way to transfer all or most of the money in bulk to a UK account. He could use an intermediary who owns both Nigerian and UK accounts.

I don't think that is possible. With the withdraw limit and the cost of withdrawing from Nigerian account it will be an expensive and probably counterproductive

Let me suggest to you that if you can get extra £2,500 or £3,000 pounds, why not apply to Strathclyde Univeristy (In top 40 school in UK).

If you have the money, I will suggest you go for Strathclyde Jniveristy but if otherwise is the case or probably you have a better discount or offer in Caledonian Univeristy, then I will say go for it. If you read hard enough and you get a distinction (masters) the school you attended will matter less if you look for Job in Nigeria.
