139 million for repair works on 49 vehicles? Who negotiated this deal?

What we should understand is that there's proper insurance (not d oluwole type we get for ours!) on each vehicle and its going to cost both sides (govt and insurer) formally because the auto company that'll repair will quote astronomically (that's their way). So, yes, its could cost hundred of millions because insurance on heavy duty cars dey cost.

This is sick and very anti-people. Those officials are simply empowered to legally carry out more illegality.

And who repairs "49 buses were actually destroyed and it is costing us like almost N139m"? This is day light robbery of public funds. How much do new buses cost? Some damage may just be broken side mirror or doors.

Ahn Ahn....... 54.78% of Lagosians which is 13,742,691 people out of 25,087,059. (according to Wikipedia) either hawks or sells something on the street?

It seems you just closed your eyes and picked the Stats that just appeared in your brain.

We are estimating repairs on cars and some people that don't own cars and have no business with mechanics are disagreeing with people that frequently visit the mechanic.

"It is not in our DNA to allow someone to just die by road accident or the way it happened in respect of the incident. But beyond the fact that we lost one person while crossing the road as a result of evading arrest by KAI officials, I need to tell Lagosians that over 49 buses were actually destroyed and it is costing us like almost N139m to put those buses back on the road,” he said.

@ the bolded, what about insurance? This sorts of situation is totally avoidable.

I agree with you. Do you know why people, for the most part, obey the law in America? It's not that they are so good and kind. It's because they know the government over there mean business. America can use a billion dollars to find a culprit who stole a pen. Even if you committed an offence in 1912, they will still be looking for you till today. Even if you had died a long time ago, they will try to find your corpse. That's how serious they take law enforcement. In Nigeria, the law is a sugggestion. If you like follow it. If you like don't.

Too much movie. Cut it down.
What's your experience with crime investigation in America? People commit crimes and walk away undecteted on daily basis.

The law enforcement agents there are quite advanced but people still outsmart them.

This is first hand information bro. No movie. I did not google my comments. Please re read my post again. No one said every criminal is caught, but most are. Which is why there is faith in the legal system. Unlike a country where jungle justice is the norm because of lack of faith in the system. America spends a lot of resources in apprehending criminals as a deterrent to others. There is nothing worse than being on the run for the rest of your life. Nigeria is a country where people commit murder legally everyday because of lack of faith in the legal system. Smh.

I heard this on TVC today.

...in so far as the government do all it can to sensitise the people, the instruction would be duly obeyed. N90,000 fine is too much to sacrifice on the altar of ignorance. In fact, if these hawkers have N90,000 somewhere, they likely won't be on the road trading.

The 90,000 is optional as the offender still has the option of a 6-month-jail term.
