I'm from a Christian home but since my childhood I find it hard to be in any religion..i was always forced to go to church.sometimes my mum will invite the pastor and prayer warriors to conduct a deliverance section on me but still I'm always skeptical about religion..now I'm old enough to decide what I need and the kind of spiritual or non spiritual life I want to live but my parents always treat me like an outcast whenever I'm around . They even threatened to disown me if I don't get baptized... plus other things I wouldn't like to mention please how do atheist in the house cope with this kind of situation 8 Likes 3 Shares |

Hi Op. I understand how tough African parents can be. They are your parents, and you will sometimes have to succumb to their wishes. It won't take anything away from you if you get baptized. You don't believe in their god, right? Going for baptism won't affect you in anyway. It is just a placebo they believe; do well to satisfy them(your parents) I'm a freethinker myself, and I still go to church. Today i decide not to go to church, my sisters and mum all went. ..but they can't force me cos I'm an adult. anonym0us: Maybe speak to other members of your family, it's possible/likely that you are not the only atheist in your family. Sometimes it takes an intermediary to speak to your parents. |

[b] Op..we understand your ordeal We are all natural born ATHEIST before they start feeding us lie.. >Is creationist an option ?:well the answer isn't just for the loose head African parents dont allow their children to develop their own opinions, from the aspect of this they tend thier child from the way they wer raised, as a religious parent they're,the goal is to doctrinate the belive system into the child,and to encourage them to learn how to think from the Biblical or Islamic concept regardless of their contradictions And yes, this definitely benefits the child .in as much as the child keep on the religious track.. What this religious parents dont understand is,they force kids to do all kinds of things that they should do, choose their schools, choose where they will live, choose what clothes they will be permitted to wear, what God you're to worship.. and to shock em, you say to them, you're an ATHEIST Parents ,exposing kids to diverse experiences and ideas is a good thing, because we all need to self-identify and that can't happen in a sheltered environment. Denying the child,that only delays the process, potentially causing some deep, ugly problems later in life. Nobody should choose a belief for another person, especially a child. You can take all the things you think benefitted you being raised a Christian/Muslim or a Stione worshipper and just implement them in your family life. It's not necessary to infect all this on a child with the faith virus,and religion bullshit.. parents should leave em. So op the basic idea is that you have freedom of religion or belief. It is up to them what they believe or don't believe. Your job is to expose them to different ways of thinking and different belief systems so that they know what their options are.you shouldn't interject your feelings into em.but no matter how you try this your parents will tell you what you don't wanna hear.. telling you series and tales of how young you still are to know what theyve knew. If you're still under same roof with em.just take the act along till you're on your own..but once in a while make use of reverse psychology on em they will leave you alone >how do they know their religion is the one true religion? Religions force beliefs without reason and behaviours without pity. Atheism is not a religion - it gives space to doubts, research, it lets the mind explore alternatives and seek truth.
