his wife just got admissions with a university in the usa, he has already has a masters in unilag but the school advised her to go for another masters due to her low grade instead of phd she intended to do.
could this affect are chance?
my friend is currently not working while she works as a part time lecturer here in Ghana
could husband not working affect her chance?
they already have a baby boy less than one year old can she file for the whole family or she file alone?
the account she want to use domicile in Nigeria, bears her late farther name with about 40m which she and her mum is a signatory to the account the account belong to his late dad, they hardly send money or collect money from the account does money not flowing in the account affect her chance?
lastly since the letter and statement of account will be coming from Nigeria how would the usa immigration verify the document? she has a working permit here

thanks

Hello sir, based on what you posted on part 9 about low GPA and how to calculate it to USA standard. Sir, I took my time and calculated it, it's still the same sir, nothing changes. I knew I was right when I got the same result. Unless WES approximate it i.e ( MTH 333 3unit B) Our B =USA B+ (3.33) which means 3*3.33=9.99. Our MTH 333 B to USA standard is 9.99. My question is that do WES approximate their result cos i think that's the only way the GPA can increases. So that the 9.99 can be 10 and all other grades too. I hope to read from you sir....#thanks

iCool:
@warriboy21. You have written well!

I studied Mechanical Engrg in Nigeria, worked in the upstream Petroleum sector and three of my friends already in the US have told me to forget all those certificates and experience and switch to IT except I don't want to get a job easily after studies.

I don search, I don tire... Most courses I have seen in IT require pre-requisite courses in IT before one is eligible to apply.

How do I do this almighty switch?

This is US, the struggle is real. Your friends have seen it themselves that the US market gives no shiit about STEM or NO STEM. America won't leave Americans unemployed and start employing foreigners because they studied one damn STEM.... This makes sense, right? That's why foreigners rush to the areas they can easily get employment, fields that need diversity and have increasing employment rate.

@ switching, if you actually mean business, you will find a way to do the required prereqs. You can start taking them while you're doing your normal studies. It's just extra credits for extra tuition, then transfer to a different course. Have you heard of a 2nd/3rd MS or MS after PhD before? That's one of the reasons for that. And if you can't do all this "almighty switching" just remain on your original path and pray that you find your employment after a while even if you have to endure some time of hardship doing crappy jobs.

I was inspired by warriboy21's post about his school (Valparaiso University). It was actually one of my options when initially evaluating schools and programs. This is not a generalization, it is my opinion based on my own background/profile/experiences... So my school is Hood College in Frederick, Maryland. Don't let the "college" confuse you into thinking its a 2 year college or just a baccalaureate awarding institution. Hood College is a doctoral degree granting school.

Some of the things I looked at while evaluating schools were
-Relevance of curriculum with industry trends and advances
-Hands-on, experiential learning
-Small class sizes allowing better interaction with faculty
-A culturally diverse student body
-Affordable tuition (very, very key)
-Location and proximity to an economic powerhouse (for internships and jobs)

I have also come to realize that we all can not attend the Ivy Leagues, Public Ivies or Nationally ranked universities. However, that does not mean the quality of education is less at a small private university like Hood College. Neither does it mean the prospect of a brighter future at completion of one's program is bleak. Like one of my professors told me recently, "I (the student) am ultimately responsible for what I make of my graduate education experience". The faculty, school, internships and everything else are just pieces you put together to form your desired output.

Hood College has been around since 1893 and has produced thousands of alumna who have gone ahead to do very well in their various endeavors. Again, you may query LinkedIn to ascertain this. Every program has the right compliment of top-tier faculty and world-class facilities to give you a worthwhile experience. And Nigerian students generally have a good reputation here. There are just a handful of us here currently but we are highly regarded due to our academic integrity and work ethics.

So to respond to some of the most popular FAQs here as it applies to Hood College, find below:

Funding
There are opportunities but these are limited and not guaranteed. The options include admin Graduate Assistants, Teaching Assistants, Lab assistants, Athletic/Sports GAs(you need some form of licensing to get these). Its easier to get an assistantship after you've spent at least a semester as you would have established relationships with the people that matter and your academic abilities can be better adjudged then. Apart from assistantships, you might be able to secure a job working with dining services or facilities on a hourly pay.

Standardized tests
GRE/GMAT aren't required for admission by the school but the general consensus here (Nairaland) is that you take the one applicable to your school/program. TOEFL/IELTS is required.

Minimum GPA for admission
Minimum GPA is 2.75 and you need to get your transcript evaluated (WES, ECE, etc.). However, students with a GPA between 2.5 and 2.7 may be considered for possible provisional admission so this might be a way for some people to achieve their dreams.

Tuition
At $475 per credit hour, the average total tuition for a masters program (30 credit hours after prerequisites) comes in at < $15,000. Yes, you read that correctly. But tuition is just one part of your expenses. Please consider rent, textbooks and living expenses as these add up to form a substantial part of your overall costs.

Never! Individual grade can be rounded up to 2 sig fig where necessary but in such case as 9.99, it would be left as 9.99. If not, it will offset the mean of the final grades, so it's not supported statistically. Also, any cgpa is never rounded up (in US, I know for sure) i.e cgpa 3.727 = 3.72 ≠ 3.73, this is why you see people having cgpa 3.49, 2.49.

Increment comes in when wes changed D and E to C and 3, 4, including that your 6 or 10 units project to 2 units. You gain from such conversion if you're a student that has lots of C, D and E. This is why those with cgpa originally less than 3.0/4 usually see some kind of increment but those originally above 3.0/4 see the opposite.

Switching to a 4 year BSN, right? It's very possible and easy like the other admission. Just submit your application to nursing school.

Its a new page, a new dawn. I av been a silent follower of this thread and I think its time to ask a vital question about US universities. I used WES evaluation procedures explained by bigfrancis (kudos sir) and discovered that my gp is 3.53/4.0. According to warriboy (I hail boss) post on his school, I wish to ask if I can get a sch of such low tuition fee and various opportunity to complete my study as i'm on medium or average budget Toefl fee exempted? My field of study is food science.i will also welcome any suggestion or advice on this. Thanks 4 ur time
