Hello house, apologies in advance if this seem like a question with an 'obvious answer'. Please, do I need a passport photo to fill out my DS 160 form or is it required for only the interview?

Required for form, for interview and for both simultaneously too depending on your approach.

Because you're denied Visa doesn't mean you aren't qualified, I for one believe issuing of Visas is at the discretion of the VOs regardless of your status. Many people have been granted Visas with no travel history.

You are only corroborating my points if you read through my posts

Actually what she says has been stated by the VOs. The video link is on the ist page of this thread

I haven't been able to watch that video, and it's great to know my research has been authoritatively confirmed.

Hello OmoJesu, if you're unable to upload your passport photo on the DS160 online form, you can still submit. Just ensure you go to the interview with 2 pieces of 5cm x 5cm passport photogragh.

You'll be fine. Go and bring a positive news. Good Luck to you.

Let's call a spade a spade. There r 5 things you need to overcome to 'qualify' for US visa.

Purpose of trip: why are you going to US? It needs to be a solid reason. If you are going for vacation, you should have visited a couple of other countries on holiday before. For business or conference it should be related to your profession. For medical, there's a checklist.
Where in US you are going to: Believe it or not, where you are going to matters. Going to Alabama as a tourist is strange. Going to Alaska in winter is also strange. Going to disneyland as an adult with no kids is strange. Going to Las Vegas with kids is strange. So yhis needs to be also tight.

Financial status: can you afford the trip? This is where your job or sponsors strength comes in. As an adult over 21yrs or a graduate going on holiday you shouldn't use a sponsor. It's expected you should be financially stable as an adult.

Travel History: US VOs have limited time to question you. They will be glad to rely on UK Europe Canada Australia etcs decisions to come to theirs. Let's put it that those places have done the work for them. Also, if you frequent other not so strong countries that have sticker visas (not just stamps) they will also help as a tourist.

Social status: marriage, kids, makes them more comfortable because you are most likely not going to abandon them and marry akatarian for papers, and even if you do, it's a long painful journey.

These will only help you judge yourself before paying the 53k and not a yardstick for visa issuance. That is strictly left for the VO.

If you have no travel history and you apply for tourism, you are doing try your luck. Weddings are also seen as tourist visits. When I had no travel history, nothing took me to US embassy cos I felt I didn't qualify. I jejeje faced Dubai, Qatar, Kenya, Ethiopia, then graduated to UK before approaching US. I also waited till I was married, even though I had a good job where I earned over 200k since when I was 20yrs old. I got the visa on the 1st try.

This one that visa is now 53k. Please judge unaself first before paying.

The enitre write up is my opinion and is open to criticism.

Gbam I couldn't have agreed with you any less. anything less than this is try your luck as it can swing to your favour or it might not.

@ Chealsefan1 and laeksyde; i'm sorry it ended in refusals, if care is not taken, it can be upsetting kind of.

Pls "study" this thread like one writing an exam on it and you will see where you got it wrong and why you got refused.

VOs do not have all the time in the world to attend to an applicant, your DS160 does the job, your presence is to "defend" what you filled therein.

***my little contribution as an ardent student of this thread since Part1*** cool

My wife was also amongst the Monday applicants and she was given and just about 4 questions were asked. Meanwhile before now we studied the transcript posted here like it was final MBBS EXAMS. We did role plays over and over and over again.

Train to florida from new york? Omo that is a very long journey. I bet you, the officer at POE is gonna question that. Do you know how many miles that trip is? You might end more spending more on train tickets.

Please @DiBoss what do you advice? As flying through JFK en route Orlando Florida seems to be cheapest.

Egbon Nefertitiram, what has travel history go to do with this?

A quick one: I started working for my company as a staff at age 19, currently 28. Over the years, I have worked in different capacities and handling the affairs of the store and with God, promotions have swept in over the years. I only am entitled to my leave allowances and I do not go for the leave itself.

Reason is, I'm the sole worker in the store in our outstation printing office here in the FCT and supervision strength across the multiple Northern states. Monthly and quarterly Stocktaking is conducted and I must collate datas of all outstations before I travel to our Lagos office to present the report , now tell me, how then do I travel?

I believe other ways are there to weigh your application process. I'm married I've got a child, wife works with the Government.

So travel history is also a matter of choice, the reason I wa able to file for leave was because I was married and wouldn't like to travel without my wife and daughter. Immediately I was delayed, I resumed work as no one was there to cover for me but arrangements were made to suffice for the 2 weeks myself and family would have been away.

So not everybody have the luxury of time. Moreso, travelling for vacation to the particular places I intended to go was based o mutual interest between myself and wife.

I respect the process and I feel it should be a bit transparent.
I'm sorry to say this oooo but if U.S visa no enter why not try another country and spend the holiday with your family. U.S is not do or die.

I'm grateful to have come across quality minds with good experience here.

I'm Simon and I will be having my meeting with the VO next month. My record is as follows:

1. I'm 29 years old, married with two kids (Step-son who is 6 years & My biological daughter who is less than 6 months)

2. I run a medium scale multimedia business but only registered as a business name since 2011

3. I and my wife are graduate . We both studied Mass Communication and did our NYSC in 2014/2015

4. I own a landed property

5. My wife has a job that she work

6. I have been to South Africa in December last years in regards to my profession, though via visitor's visa

7. I have a family member whom I will be putting up with in Florida

8. My purpose is to visit a family member and a friend who lives in LA while sight seeing Hollywood also. but my first stop will be in Florida before flying to LA to visit my friend and see Hollywood.

9. I'm hoping to travel by January if the visa is issued as the peak period for my business starts in September and ends in December.

10. I only intend to visit the US for 2 weeks.

In regards to the above, do you guys think I have less or more chances to be issued the visa? And what are the possible loopholes in my profile.
1. People with less have been given visas. People with more have been refused so nobody can tell you if you stand a chance or not. The advice however is for you to read the thread, self evaluate and be prepared for any outcome.
Read the last page where nefetitiram described the keys to a successful application andd watch the video on the first page where ties are explained. Use that as a guide to self evaluate.

2. Your profile is your profile. You do not have a choice but to fill your form as it is. Complete honesty is the advice here and by the U.S embassy. So the idea of asking people to tell you their opinion on your 'Loopholes' is a bit off. Cos that would encourage posters to 'tweak' their applications to remove the loopholes.
Happy reading

Would the POE official question that? But I think explanation can suffice to douse any suspicions sha. take for for instance a ticket for 2 via New York POE in December is 565k while direct to Orlando is 1.3m with a difference of 700k. It would make economic sense to fly through New York see new York and also save about 700k than flying direct to Orlando. Moreover the distance between New York and Orlando is like from kano to Lagos and people do night travel all the time at least here in Nigeria. I have some peeps that are using that route in December and this is the ready answer they intend presenting to the POE officials.

What's the cost of flying local from New York to Chicago (return ticket maybe) in this regard? This may be the best solution available to the cutting of cost thing without necessarily inconveniencing one's self much or even exposing self to unnecessarily palaver at JFK/EWR POE. You could also go the multi-city booking route, e.g entering from New York and exiting from Chicago and vice versa. In all of these, always consider the baggage allowance and what lbs (kg) you may be carrying around to and fro your various destinations oh, very key too, because what you gained on your flight plan can be lost on extra luggage payments. 700k saved in the example given above may better be put to use partly in this scheme and you will still have lots saved and left over of that sum particularly if you plan out your trip ahead of time (December in this case). Such makes sense. Just play with various options

Men na greyhound sure pass o and it's about 328usd Dat is about 132k with d dollar at 400. Men for flight jetblue is about 1k usd as least for now. But I think the greyhound is what I would advised them to do afterall the road trip is all part of the fun and it would give them the opportunity to see America. So on a worst case scenario 700k minus 150k one still have like 550k being saved.
