Good day dear reader

Today we are going to discuss about the Yoruba language.

Yoruba language is a tonal language which makes the language to be very unique, the appearance of some of the alphabet are far different from the way we pronounce them. before you can understand Yoruba language you have to understand this tone.

It will be very easy to learn if you have access to voice which i will post subsequently on youtube, when i post it, i will share the link here.

the basic Yoruba tone are three[3] in number
DO
RE
MI

The picture above show more illustration of the use of the tonal sign.
DO and MI are the most common and easy to learn of the three tonal sign, RE is somehow hard to learn for beginners bacuase of the absence of the sign.

lets start with: 'DO'

examples of words that consist the DO tone include the following:
DO-DO
A-li
i-FE
A-DU-ke
A-PE-ke
O-be
etc
the bolded part of the words above are the signs of DO tone. i made you of common words for better understanding

next is 'RE'

examples of words that contain RE
BU-mi
SE-UN
GBO-GBO
O-le
A-gba-RA
etc

last but not the least is the 'MI' tone

examples of words with MI include the followinmg:

DU-PE
WA-LE
FUN-mi
TA-yo
TI-TI
etc

some words may consist all the three tones while some may contain only two,
examples of words that consist of the three tones are the following:
A[RE]-DE[MI]-BO[DO]-WA[MI]-LE[MI]
O[RE]-LU[MI]-WA[MI]-SE[DO]YI[MI]
THIS WILL BE ALL FOR NOW....

if you have any question of observation
you can drop it in the comment section

Good day readers

Today we are going to treat a very interesting topic, and I believe you are all going to enjoy and at the same time understand every bit of it.

Last topic was on INTONATION IN YORUBA LANGUAGE, where we discuss all the three basic tonals of the Yoruba language.

Today we are going to discuss THE YORUBA LANGUAGE ALPHABET.(AFABEETI EDE YORUBA)

Like many other language, Yoruba language too have its own alphabets. In fact a very interesting one. Unlike the English alphabet that have 26 letters Yoruba language has 25 letters.
It will interest you that there is great similarities between Yoruba language alphabet and English language alphabet, the slight different is just the pronunciation or let me call it the TONE.
Without wasting much of your time, here are the 25 letters of Yoruba alphabet

A B D E E
F G GB I H
J K L M N
O O P R S
S T U W Y

The alphabets above are not pronounced as the English alphabet, when I make the videos on youtube I will make more verbal explanation.

Let me explain here first the pronunciations and tones of the above alphabets
A- as in tone (A)lphabet

B- as in tone (B)ig

D- as in tone (D)egree

E- as in tone (A)go

E- as in tone (E)

F- as in tone (F)ish

G- as in tone (G)ive

GB- as in tone (GBI) I cant think of any English word for this right now, you can make a suggestion.

I- as in tone (I)nstrument

H- as in tone (H)istory there is a little similarity between alphabet I and H. but they are not the same.

J- as in tone (J)esus

K- as in tone (K)ill

L- as in tone (L)eave

M-as in tone (M)inute

N- as in tone (N)eat

O- as in tone (O)ld
O- as in tone (O)rganize
P- as in tone (P)ick
R- as in tone (R)ead
S- as in (S)eat
S- as in tone (SH)ift
T- as in tone (T)heif
U- as in tone w(OU)nd
W- as in tone (W)eek
Y- as in tone (Y)awn
By now we should be able to identify all the Yoruba alphabet tones. Alphabet is called AFABEETI in Yoruba language.
Next topic we are going to discuss about the uses of the afabeeti Yoruba
Like we have A for Aple in English
So we have A for Aja (dog)
See you next time….

sorry to disturb you sir, yoruba language does not have h as an alphabet, if it does tell me one word that begins with h in yoruba, it is the corruption of yoruba words such as sade into shade, there is nothing like shade, I am not purist by the way, enlighten if you think otherwise, not trying to derail your thread, just want to know when h was added. Keep the good work going sir.

Thanks for the feedback
In as much as we are still living, learning continues.

Firstly: yoruba language does not have h as an alphabet, if it does tell me one word that begins with h in yoruba,

Yoruba definitely have the H alphabet, it's part of our alphabet. Can't be compromised.

Secondly: if it does tell me one word that begins with h in yoruba, it is the corruption of yoruba words such as sade into shade, there is nothing like shade,

Well, it's because you don't understand the reason behind this, let me explain in to you.

In Yoruba Language, there are PHONES,
Not telephone o.
These phones include the following
Mophone, idiophone, among others.

The one that you need to understand now is the idiophone(ÍDÍÓFÓÓNÙ)

This means the making of sound through vibration, mostly in musical instrument.

H alphabet is not that physical like other alphabet, jist like alphabet N can be hidden sometimes too.

What happen to words like
Oshogbo that became Osogbo
Shile that became Sile
Shola that became Shola
Among others, are not corruption as you said. It is an upgrade from the past Yoruba pattern of saying words and the new one.(ÀKÓTÓ ÁYÉ ÀTIJÓ, and ÀKÓTÓ ÒDE-ÒNÍ.

this changes also affect words like
AIYE THAY BECAME AYE
TAIYE that BECAME TAYE.
Abbl.

Examples of words that start with alphabet H are:

Hílà-Hílo
Hìya!!!
Hío-hio

I can't think of other examples for now.
H alphabet is in Yoruba alphabet.

THE YORUBA LANGUAGE ALPHABET AND ITS MEANINGS

Today we are going to look at this very interesting topic about the Yoruba language alphabet and what they stand for.
the last topic focus on the explanation of the Yoruba alphabet and its tones, which I believe you all understand very well.
Lets start with some English alphabet
A for Apple
B for boy
Etc

Now in the Yoruba case, lets go from A to Y, as you know there is no Z in Yoruba language alphabet.

A----AJA
B----BATA
D----DOJE
E----EJO
E----EYE
F-----FILA
G-----GELE
GB---GBAGUDA
I----IGI
H----HAUSA
J----JAGUNJAGUN
K----KINIHUN
L----LABALABA
M----MAALU
N-----NANGUDU
O----OGONGO
O----OGEDE
P-----PEPEYE
S------SALUBATA
S-------SAGO
T------TAFATAFA
U-----UKU UKU
W----- WAHALA
Y-------YANMUYANMU

In subsequent time, I will make the interpretations of what the above words in Yoruba means. But for the main time, make sure you read and recite them daily just the same way your learned the English alphabet and what it stands for.

This topic is going to help your intonation and pronunciation and don’t forget to leave ypour questions and suggestions at the comment section.

The next topic if going to focus on Yoruba culture, watch out for the interesting Yoruba culture that is going to blow your mind like never before

There is "H: in Yoruba.

Tongun is Ahan
Thing is Ohun
Shrewdness is Ahun
Knit is Hun
Stuck is Ha

Etc

is it it an irony that despite the fact that "H" exists in Yoruba, a lot of Yorubas still have the "h" factor , due to the people's poor rendition of their own language.

The only affricate I'm seeing here is the {gb}....why is there no {kp} affricate?
It does occur in the pronunciations of some yoruba words, eg "pele"
