These days Airline tickets are so expensive even when u try to book ur flight in advance. I have a dream, when things are set right in dis country and d storms of fraud, corruption and injustice are over, airline ticket prices (esp local flight tickets) would fall to d same price we pay for normal mini-bus tickets. Everyone would be able to afford local flights around d country without weighing their pockets. Amen.

Re: Arik Airline Resumes Operations After Temporary Suspension by opribo(m): 2:32pm On Sep 14, 2016
Will they call this a case of government banning of some products from importation again. The answer is NO, there is a clear case of management failure in this situation where an airline is suddenly stopped from operation due to failure to renew their insurance. If at all the aviation ministry needs to conduct an indepth investigation to uncover what went wrong before this matter crystallizes into a big disaster that may affect the Nigerian citizens life.

The matter should never be waved aside as an internal issue, in another view there seems to be a trend in all aspects of the Nigerian socio-economic landscape. Companies hitherto operating successfully have begun to close shop, some have even packed up. These companies cut across banks, oil companies, airlines, SMEs infact just name it. The only sector still functioning at normal capacity seem to be government offices. This is an anomaly. There seems to be a misunderstanding of how world economy is being run, a situation where the private sector is frustrated out and leaving only public sector is an outdated trend and even portends a dictatorial system that is emerging.

If this is allowed it will send us back to the 1970's, people who have access to the adventurers up there need to call them to order immediately just incase they do not know what they are doing. Successful economies are driven by SME's and the private sector and not by government.

No one expects you to understand what I just wrote ...It wasn't intended for a clerk like you because I know it's really hard for you to relate what Buhari has to do with Arik commencing operations.

Bros,

If I as a "clerk" (whatever is wrong with being a clerk) can see how dumb you are, then you must be closer to a state of no redemption. Please tell us how Buhari made Arik to owe insurance?

The word clerk here wasn't used in the context of the office title but I don't expect a certified clerk like you to understand that ... and where exactly did I say Buhari made Arik to owe Insurance ? Damn you must be a pedigree clerk . Do you even know the implication of the biggest local Airlines stopping operations for a day and the cascading effect it will have on the economy and the image of Buharis govt? Do you know that Buhari has learnt that he made a mistake in letting Aero close shop without intervening as a govt and I was impressed he didn't allow same happen to Arik ...so you can see why I said Buhari has started gaining some little sense . DO you have kids yet?

1. You're simply a comic relief, but I will humour myself with your brazen ignorance....but let's continue with the comic show.....
2. In whatever "context" you put a clerk, you're not up to scratch in reasoning........
3. Why was Arik operations shut down? You did not get from the report is that it is because they owed insurance? So it is whose fault?
4. So if a management team of a supposed "biggest local Airlines" demonstrate executive recklessness and irresponsibility, it automatically becomes the fault of the presidency, because to you their operations is hinged on "cascading effects" and "image of Buhari govt"?
5. Buhari let Aero close shop? your idiocy is beginning to amuse me. If we go by your wierd logic, we will absolve the Ibru family, whom the Canadian partners accused of graft, over invoicing and other issues bothering on trust, you will blame Buhari? Or is it Buhari's fault that he started "undermining" Aero since 2010 up to date when AMCOM rescued it twice yet it did not come up?

Bros you are skilled at beer-parlour logic, I give that to you

I see this as part of the continuing unseriousness of Nigerian corporations. You know your insurance is due, you should have people who are supposed to deal with this weeks and months in advance. Was the delay due to price negotiations? Legalities? There really is no excuse for leaving such an important matter to the last minute.

Arik you can and should do better. We're counting on you.

Have you seen the various and sundry rusting aircraft in various airports in the country? That's what's happened to the fleet. Airplanes don't maintain themselves.

Personally, I'm against government owned airlines. Most governments around the world had it, but they've been divesting to private corporations in a public-private agreement since the late 80's, with government owning diminishing smaller share. It is telling though that countries with the largest economies do not currently have government-owned passenger airlines: (USA, Japan, UK, Germany, South Korea, Mexico). NOTE: just because it says "British Airways" or "Korean Airlines" does not mean it is government owned... that's a flag carrier. "Air France" is partially government owned. "American Airlines" has never been a government-owned company, and I even doubt it qualifies for special flag-bearing status in the way, say "British Airways" or "Japan Airlines" are.

We have seen how well the Nigerian government runs things... left to them the national carrier (if ever revived) will never be on time, charge subsidized rates that do not reflect the market realities and would only harm out other private airlines, staff will be ill trained and sullen. What I would like to see is government-backed low-interest long-term financing to help our private airlines grow. Then government can tax these airlines for its revenue.
