You can carry ANY amount.
However, any sum above 10k USD MUST be declared.
How? You will be given a form before you land...

Thanks to all, I got my visa! I studied peoples transcript carefully and I learnt a lot. I learnt that confidence is of utmost importance for a successful interview. So my battery was well charged. I wore a new suit, new tie, new shoe and most importantly, I wore a brand new smile...lol

VO: Passport pls
Me: Passed my 2 passports
VO: scanned through my new passport. You have been to Germany 5 times this year alone, what do you do for a living?
Me: I work as an Assistant Logistics Manager at ****Limited, and my job involves hitting the road often to meet our business partners for business meetings.
VO: OK. (Not looking satisfied) You recently traveled to Brazil, what for?
Me: I traveled to meet our Logstics partner in Sao Paulo and also to cheer Team Nigeria at the Olympics, unfortunately we didn't come out in flying colours like the US team.
VO: (blushed) typed for about 30secs or so, are you married?
Me: No, am not.
VO: Are you traveling to the US for business also?
Me: oh no! Vacation
VO: Where would you be visiting on this trip and how long would you be staying?
Me: I intend to visit New York and enjoy a bus ride to Washington DC. I also intend to stay for 2weeks.
VO: smiling, (typing for about 20 secs) Do you have anybody in the US?
Me: Yes, I do have an uncle who lives in Houston, Texas with his family.
VO: Your visa is approved, pick up at this circled place in 3 days. Gave me a slip and returned my old passport.
Me: smiling, thanks, God Bless you.

That place has a way of making people nervous, a lot of people were speaking incoherently and avoiding eye contact, many of them didn't make it. In my opinion, I believe those guys at the embassy are cool.

Collected my passport on Wednesday, booked a Lufthansa flight to Newyork that evening, traveled on Thursday. America is indeed beautiful!

Unlike in Europe, everything is big here, even their babes. Nothing is free here, i have spent a lot of money on stuffs i would get cheaply or even for free in Spain or even Italy. I was surprised, when I met a Policeman with a tag name (**** Alade) while I was waiting for a Taxi, I spoke Yoruba to him straight and he responded speaking Yoruba back. I felt at home immediately. We even spoke about Mushin Olosha, God Bless America...God Bless Nigeria!

Congratulations Bro. I have a question plz

What do you mean he returned your old passport? When I went the guys at the checking entrance detached my old passport from the new and the old passport contained all my travel history while d new passport has none. It was in my pocket and I asked the VO if she wanted to take a look but she said i shouldn't bother.

At what point did you give him/her your old passport or it was not detached at the entrance?

If you travel with 100dollars and you are asked how you intend to fund your visit wherein you aren't supposed to work, then I believe you will have an explanation as clearly 100 dollars cannot cover a vacation

En hen, seksek well done. After I used my magical powers by intercepting and altering your data while you were having your interview with the VO ( I sent the stuff that came up on the VO's screen ) so I could grant your request about us getting married in the US, you still went ahead and started flirting with beniyola.. Even called him your true love.. LOL.. Hope you enjoyed your trip though.

But wait, recession ... recession.. Exchange rates.. yet people are still traveling. Naija I hail thee.
lool Onando, you even remember my story from d embassy--shows u r inluv wit me---was only pulling beniyola's leg o, he has abandoned me.

My trip went well, i had fun but not as i had imagined. Good to have you back here.
By the way, recession is relative o--- some pple are making more money this period.

It is at the discretion of the cbp. I have no idea

But I want you to be objective:
You enter a plane. Cross the 7 seas to america. And all you have /can afford to hold is 100 dollars. Compare that scenario vis a vis the recewnt postwr that just said America is an amazing place and he was tempted to not return.
If you are the cbp , what would you feel/do?

well since I mentioned to them that my sis will be fully take charge of all my welfare during the interview, I will neva be bothered by my 100 dollars that I might not even use
Re: USA Visit Visa Part 2 by ajalaonifaaji: 11:40am On Sep 21, 2016
@DCTrendy, First, my passports were not attached together, secondly, I gave my current passport to the guy that screened me before I made my way to the main building. He sticked a tiny blue paper on it, I don't know what that means. I had my other passport inside my suit pocket. I only gave the VO both because other embassies I have visited in the past always insist of seeing previous issued visas....usually the coloured photocopy of previous visas. By the way, the VO never opened it, she just placed it on her desk and returned it after the interview.

I quoted you upside down...lol...still learning to navigate this site. I got to know about Nairaland through an Intern in the IT dept at work, and I have found it to be very educative and exciting. I will post my experience soon, including stuffs I wish I had learnt here, as I almost got deported.

A US visa on one's passport does not guarantee entrance into the States. All it does is allow you board a US bound plane and seek entrance at the POE. It's no news that a lot of people get sent back to their home countries and their visas cancelled because they have no funds on them that will meet their needs and expense during their visit. The CBP officers decide whether or not one will be allowed entrance, and only $100 on you may not be a good idea. But hey! what do I know?
so what minimum amount do u suggest

Okay. Times ten of your initially proposed figure is better, you could go less. That (too little figure without proof of at least more money available to you personally in whatever form) may also land you in secondary inspection which may not really be far from next flight back home.
