If you feel the player who was the third best player in a World Youth Championship was not a teen sensation, I wonder what a teen sensation is. When you take the fact that Ronaldinho, Forlan, Takahara, Robbie Keane, Seydou Keita were in that tournament. How can you say Xavi who started playing for Barcelona in 1998 at 18 years was not a teen sensation.

The third best player in Nigeria 99 was Pablo COUNAGO not Xavi.

Xavi was in Barca B in 1998 not the main team. He had cameo appearances for the main team like many youth players.

Barcelona Edit
1998–2001 Edit
His progression through the teams earned him a first-team appearance in a Copa Catalunya match against Lleida on 5 May 1998[20] and he scored his first goal on 18 August 1998 in the Super Cup final against RCD Mallorca. His début in La Liga came against Valencia CF on 3 October 1998 in a 3–1 victory for Barcelona.

Your right Pablo got the bronze ball. Been a while. Well, he was one of the top players of the competition.

From FIFA Website,

(1999) Rising Stars:
Esteban Cambiasso (ARG), Ronaldinho (BRA), Ashley Cole (ENG), Shinji Ono (JPN), Koji Nakata (JPN), Seol Ki-Hyeon (KOR), Seydou Keita (MLI), Rafael Marquez (MEX), Julius Aghahowa (NGA), Roque Santa Cruz (PAR), Damien Duff (IRL), Robbie Keane (IRL), Gabri (ESP), Xavi (ESP), Fabian Carini (URU), Diego Forlan (URU),

There is no way Xavi was not a teenage sensation.

Fact is even as Aguero's understudy, Nacho trumps them all in goals/goals ratio and more in the no.9 role.... That is FACT. NOT OVERHYPE.... LOL...

Wonder why you'all afraid to face the truth.

edi287:

Alexis, Perez and Giroud are all better. Nacho has potential, but please don't overhype this guy. He isn't making the first 11 in Arsenal. Fact.

Common the team that face catalona in 98 included.. Jero Shakpoke, Duke Udi, Sanni Abacha, etc.. The only established players was Adepoju and grab lawal.

That is not enough to say Xavi was a infant sensation. Xavi played in Nigeria 99. He was not amongst the best players in the competition even though spain won.
From Xavi's Wiki page.

1999 La Liga Breakthrough Player of the Year. Xavi became Barcelona's principal playmaker after an injury to Pep Guardiola in the 1999–2000 season.

Teenage Sensation.

Stop that lie Biko!!! Sanchez play as striker for Chile??

Lollll.... Then tell me I pray thee where "Vargas" plays... *smiles*

edi287:

Alexis has played as a CF in barca a couple of times and also plays as a striker for chile.
Lucas Perez scored 17 and assisted 10 in a relegation threatened Deportivo side. Iheanacho might end up surpassing both (most likely will), but at this moment, he isn't better than Giroud and Perez. Come on!

Sanchez has played as a striker for chile alot of times. Goldfish80 posted a pic of chile's formation vs Brazil at the world cup. Infact he has been playing as a striker from river plate to udinese to barca and arsenal. Wenger initially bought him to be our Suarez but it wasn't working out. He can do a job as a striker either in a 2 or as a lone striker.

Looool after 3 games This reminds me of the 13/14 season where podolski played 3 games and scored 2 and had a 100 percent shot accuracy. If we go by that logic, podolski was the best striker in the league then?? Na wa oo. Saying Nacho would get into arsenal first 11 is like me saying Iwobi would bench nolito which is not true.

I know about all of Sanchez's history and playing positions (main and improvised) and have been on him since his starring at the 2007 Fifa U-20 World Cup.

But the question is simple. Who's Chile's Main striker?? Vargas or Sanchez?

A lot of people underrate Giroud because he's not a fancy player but I tell you what, that guy has been top scorer in the French league before he came to England. He infact guided a modest and an unfancied Montpellier to win the French league against more traditional teams like Psg, marseille, Lyon etc... At the national team level, he has scored 20+ goals in 57games and most of them as a substitute.
Truth is that Kelechi is good, no doubt but to say he is better than ever international striker at arsenal is not being realistic atall. Kelechi is just starting out, he may surpass the achievement of all the Arsenal strikers put together including Henry. But he has not done that yet. This is just his second year as a pro.
We should be careful how we hype him, otherwise, he may never fulfil his potential because he may start thinking he has arrived which may be his downfall. Let's not fall into the hype-machine that is the English media and allow our players grow quietly.
Exactly!! Nacho has only played a full season. He isn't getting in the first 11 over Alexis as a CF. Not possible. He isn't that good. Not just yet.

Vargas. Show me where I said Alexis was chile's MAIN striker?? I said he plays as a striker for chile and that is true. He plays as either an ss alongside Vargas or as a lone striker if necessary. Wenger signed him as a cf.

Nacho's potency stats came after a full season. Podolski's is about just "3 games"... So there's no correlation at all. smiley

Nacho deserves the spotlight even though he still has a long way to go.

Nacho at 19 (20 by Oct.3rd) is already "Golden" and can be "Even better".... That's the scary part.

Can you draw a parallel line between Xavi /Freddie Adu? Xavi / Bojan? Xavi /Dos Santos. Xavi/Wilshere? Xavi/ Rooney?

Looks like you missed the last few pages. I posted a chart of Chile's formation at the World Cup and the Copa. Sanchez is the undisputed no 1 striker for Chile. Vargas is merely a bench boy, however, he plays along side Sanchez up front when Sampaoli plays 3-5-2 formation.
Sanchez plays up front on his own if the coach wants to go with a lone striker.

LWKM. Lucas Perez is 28 and he can not walk into Arsenal's starting line-up. TheSuperNerd, see me see trouble. I never looked at his age. I thought he was some Marshall, Rashford something that Wenger wanted to mould.

Xavi was a bench boy until the mid - 2000... Deco, Thiago Motta and Edmilson where the preferred players in the midfield. He made his debut subbing Guardiola does not mean he was grabbing headlines around the world.
How many endorsements did he get as a teenager? Freddie Adu was already signed on to Coca-Cola and Nike at 17. Dos Santos was even thought to be a bigger talent than Messi at the Mestalia.
Xavi had his two legs firmly in place when Deco departed.

You don't talk football like that my friend....

Nolito is Nolito. Alexis is Alexis.... Both can play from the wings as well as centrally. Pep chose Nacho over Nolito to lead the lines in the manchester derby. Meaning he can repeat same if he has an Alexis.

It will be a Alexis-Nacho-Sterling upfront... Simple as that (in the absence of Aguero). smiley

I hope you know we are taking of Barcelona here. Not Wilshere at Arsenal. Back then, bench is levels. He was not Barcelona breakthrough player but La Liga. If you just think of it, you will agree with me he was big. Bigger than the Bojan and Dos Santos you are hailing.
