@uzobaby, i'm on the street & know the street aren't smiling but i need to question the crass irresponsibilities & exploitation of our local traders. Talking about import tarrifs, seafoods has one of the lowest, also talking about transportation costs, would you explain how that is capable of increasing prices of fish stock by 50%, not forgetting that we do farm varieties of fishes locally, so how does locally produced fish stocks sold at high prices?.
The truth has spoken!

Sometimes I feel the unnecessary false price hike and market inflation information here on nairaland actually affects prices of goods and services.

I noticed that with the dollar.

An aboki once checked the homepage of nairaland to tell me what the price of the dollar to naira is.

Post as these will spread like wildfire and shops all around Nigeria will commence inflation of packet of fish:
Re u sure u know what u re saying

Even though we have those fishes in our waters, we don't have the electricity to preserve, store, etc do you know that all these fishes have been frozen for like six months before they are being exported to Nigeria? Go to a large coldroom depot like ours and check the production dates on the cartons.

Now just imagine the quantity they breed or catch and preserve and now export to African countries daily, do we have the facilities to handle such? Funny thing is these fishes are caught in Russian, Norwegian and Irish waters bur the dealers are predominantly Indians like Stallion Seafood, Agro Allied, CIC, Paramount, Bharat why? Cos their govt empowers them with loans to go out and do business and pay back in instalment. I know them cos I deal with them

Things have really gone bad. I'm a business person, I sell fish and other aquatic commodities and I can overtly attest to what has been stated up there. The price of things are sporadically increasing each passing day and it's getting worse every day. Imagine, initially, with N400,000 you can a bus-full of loads from the market, but as I'm talking to you now, with N500, 000 you can't even boost of buying a barrow-full of items. That's the reason why I do tell people that the value of N1m as of Dec. 2015 has been dragged down to N520,000

I hope the government would do something about these, cos if things continues as it is for the next 12months, people wouldn't mind stealing pots of soups from the fire-place. Already, scores of people have been killing themselves, drinking acid, committing suicide etc...right in the hospital, people are becoming more hypertensive, there's no space in the prison yard due to the increasing number of thieves(petty thieves)

I guess we Nigerians are shortchanging ourselves, yes there is hike in food prices, but I feel we the masses often cheat one another for only reasons known to God.

I was surprised when my brother bought bag of rice for 13,700 naira last week for my nephew's christening ceremony whereas it is being sold at higher prices in the SS&SE around 20,000 naira (according to Nairalanders from those regions).

The government needs to set up a marketing board that will ensure consumers are not exploited.

Bros if you are a trader you will understand better....

With the way exchange rate is soaring and unstable....you can sell your current stock and be unable to get new ones...

But SS & SE prices na something else...they calculate transport on each item......

WHY ALL ENTREPRENEURS MUST EMBRACE E-MAIL MARKETING CAMPAIGN
E-mail marketing is the easiest and most affordable way of reaching your target audience and would-be customers within some minutes. If you spend little percentage of just your one month budget for advertisement on email marketing, you could double your client base. Harvard Business Review has proven that email marketing has a far higher return on investment (ROI) than traditional advertisement and even the highly advocated social media adverts.

E-mail marketing is fast becoming the most reliable and profitable marketing strategy in this country owing to the fact that each recipient of your e-mail campaign is more likely to patronize you. So, if you have not started using this strategy in your business, you are definitely missing a whole lot of patronage from prospective big clients.

With e-mail addresses at your disposal, you do not need to pay through your nose again in placing adverts in the print or electronic media for your products and services. You just have to package your adverts/proposals very well and send directly to your prospective clients via e-mail. It will reduce cost, time and improve the bottom-line of your organization. The e-mail addresses are usually separated with commas (,). You will just paste your proposal/advert on the body of the e-mail, copy and paste the e-mail addresses on the BCC row bit by bit and send. It is very simple. For more information on the advantages of e-mail marketing, click the link below:

Dey do. Y wldnt prices skyrocket when Nigerians import almost everything. Dnt we hv water in Nigeria? Atlantic Ocean dey our backyard, river niger dey our middle. Is it nt 2 import trawlers & fishing vessels 2 use 2 fish? Y nt invest in places lyk argungu? We literally prefer being given fish dan learning hw 2 fish (no pun intended).
