@Tos87, trust me, u can do without cloth simulation for now. there r many ways of cheating your way out. try studying the Captain Scarlet animated series; u will realize that no cloth simulation was used on any of the characters. their clothes are just meshes sharing the same armature with the character. if I were you, I would focus more on texturing to create folds on clothes. I'm using a 64 bit HP elite book workstation with 2gig nvidia quadro dedicated graphic card and 16gig ram, but yet I use cloth simulation only when it is ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY.
in the year 2013? i hail thee

Hello guys, towards the end of last year, I posted here that I was going to start learning Blender as I needed it for my school project. Unfortunately I had to let it go for a number of reasons. I'm more than happy that I can finally devote some time to 3D art now.

Attached here, is my second attempt at character modeling, the first was last year when I was modeling for my project. To cut the long story short, it was hideous to say the least.

I have always been fascinated with character modeling, so I'm gonna be spending the next months studying it in detail.

For the veterans here, please critique & advice. I mostly just clicked my way through the internal renderer, I have no idea how the Cycles render works. So I'm totally open to all the advice you got for me, from the technicalities to the art itself.

Thanks a lot Kaz, the SSS is truely amazing, just one click & the magic happened...!

For the cloths, I simply duplicated the faces off of the body where I wanted the cloths to be. I had problems getting the straps, because I took a shortcut when I was modeling the body by not capturing the topological flow of the back & shoulders. So I had to rework the topology so that I could have the loops around the neck & hand opening of the shirt. After that, I just duplicate again & adjusted the proportions to get the second shirt.

For the mohawk, I duplicated the top of the head as well, then extruded the mid point. I went ahead & pulled several points so as to get the spikiness at the top.

I got a hair texture from Google image, but it was blond. I turned down the material's diffuse intensity to give a darker look & also adjusted the RGB of the texture to get the reddish color.

After that, I readded the same image as a second texture, then changed it's saturation to 0 & then used it as a normal map.

Finally I added the same image as a third texture, turned down its saturation to 0, but this time set it up as a specular map.

Yes...! You're right, unfortunately not like Madame Tussauds wax, but more like candle wax...lol

Thanks for your input, I'll experiment with other values.
