A twitter clone? I would question your judgement. Dont throw away your money creating a second best.
Come up with something original too.

As for doing the app in N20m, i'm thinking you're a troll, throwing questions around to create response.
In this economy, a learner can buy a book in programming, learn it, get your features by his side,
experiment and come up with a world class twitter clone in ... erh, well it depends.
So for N20m in this "Change" era, any motivated person/team can do it. The question is unnecessary.
You'd be suprised how motivated people can be when money is involved.
But remember that there's a time cost. The present twitter has tonnes of features created by teams of super smart gurus. It will still take a long time for a lone coder to replicate whether he codes 24hrs/day for months.
No money can change that.

Sure, why not? I am infact looking for startups in ICT to invest in "IF" they are viable and uniquely address needs.

I have something that might interest you..

Just sent you a PM now.

I don't know much about coding, but I try to research into things I intend to do. To develop what is called a Minimum Viable Product (MVP), you must look into several things. Especially for a social network.

1. Design: design alone is a key to if the product flies or not. You have to design unique layout, logos, fonts, a simple and easy to use User Interface, unique emojis, you design an interface for the social website, you design an interface for the apps.

2. Coding. Coding for multiple mobile platforms

3. Encryptions and security. Social media is not good enough when it is open to security flaws. You have to know the history and nature of social media hacks and how to block them.

4. Launching and hosting on multiple servers.

5. Database managements and seamless interaction of the app and data base.

6. The app must be able to make use of phone's memory and hardware. E.g it shld be able to work with the camera when needed. Go through the phone's contact.

7. The app shld be able to "learn" from the user, understand the interests of the user and use it to make appropriate suggestions to the user.

Suddenly u realize the 20million is nothing.

Well done!

In addition,
8. Maintenance

I wanted to ignore you, but for the sake of those learning from nairaland, I will reply you. You obviously think because we all joke on nairaland we are all trolls? I have met at least 2 billionaires here on nairaland thru my other moniker I use for business in the property section.

As for 20million. Only a novice upcoming developer wld think 20million is a lot of money. Infact I strongly doubt it will be enough for the whole project.

I am not cloning twitter, I am looking for developers who understand how social network apps shld work. What elements would make it accepted. Twitter is a successful social network, facebook is too heavy, I want simplicity why I mentioned twitter. Book mark this page, by april 2017 you should come back and call me a troll.

Again my response to you is not cos you matter, but because I want to make it clear, N20million is not enough to launch a twitter today, but I hope with indigenous developers this can be attained.

Nigerians and people have this swag of calling some amount "nothing".
First, N20m, to build an app is out of the ordinary in nigeria. Because, comparatively, most developers
arent being bidded so in the market place. So , it's not about my perception but about the objective relative market rates.

As for saying only a novice upcoming developer would think N20m is a lot of money, why not conduct a poll, for devs who've executed contracts in or above that range and what fraction of them in the pool have done such?

N20m to start a company, maybe not much, but to build a social app... think again.
If you succeed , great, we'll hear of u. Otherwise, well, some would remind you that it wouldve been better building a different product instead of another clone. I'll be here in 2017 to check out how far.

You are making sense. Maybe I shldnt have put the budget in the advert. My mistake.
I contacted some app developers (not nigerians) honestly the cheapest bill I got was $150,000 do you know how much that is? One even charged $400,000 so I felt I was even setting the price low so that who ever shows interest would be ready to work with that amount.
Pls stop talking about my project being second to twitter, you don't expect me to come here and start divulging my ideas.

Thanks for your contribution anyway.
I am slowing down now to do more research before I start talking with any developer

Can't we build a physical forum where developers meet?
What do you think?
Do you know the real reason why Mark was in Nigeria? He was not here to support us. He was here to exploit us.
Nigeria has over 90million people online, but 2go and Eskimi has been more successful in nigeria than facebook... I drop my pen on this. Join the dots together and you wld understand

Dhtml18 is building africacoders.
I hope he finishes soon, and come up with something worthwhile.
African market is still young and fresh for any tech to thrive.
If 2go and eskimi worth better than Facebook means that people are move concerning with their privacy, because these platforms has more leverage on privacy than fb, and they don't require much personal data to use.

That is great!
Well I think of recent eskimi and 2go have really slowed down thanks to Whatsapp. So smart move by mark purchasing whatsapp.
Egypt has about 38million facebook users nigeria has only 16million or so. Nigeria has more people online and using smartphones than egypt but almost 100% of egyptians online are on facebook.
Kenya is also very similar to nigeria. Reason why mark visited both countries. Facebook has not been as successful here and in kenya compared to egypt, tunisia, Morocco and south africa so he most likely came to understand our needs better.
There are other pointers to the direction social media would take in africa Where over 300million daily internet users are ripe for the plucking.... Think abt this
Re: closed by HardMirror(m): 3:09pm On Oct 26, 2016
Nairaland is about 10 years old and has only 1.6million members. Of which several accounts are dormant. Several people own multiple accounts.
So real active members can't be more than 400,000 of which daily active members would be far lesser than this. Maybe 100,000 at most. But yes millions of unregistered visitors visit the forum. True, but it is poorly optimized.

Think abt this.

While we rest on our oars, mark and his likes would come and dominate the cyberspace.

Its time for use to sit up or be kicked out.

Exactly.
30million nigerian users is valued over $1.2billion annually by facebook's valuation. Snapchat charges $740million to send adverts to 200million users just for 24hours.

Seriously, when i saw this thread, i thought this guy is another troll, but i changed my mind. He's knowledgeable. I am an Android Developer, i'll like to work with you. I have been learning XMPP protocol for the past months, believe me, a social network-like app like twitter can't do without this well-defined protocol.

Bro I really don't care what people think. This is my dream and I am about to have enough funds to pursue it so I am researching and planing. I have invested in many businesses and they all failed. But I believe I can get it right with ICT, the need is there. If I decide to talk about the gaps in the african market, the idea will be hijacked without delay by those who have all the funds at their disposal.

My dear there is MONEY in Nigeria. Problem is not the money. Those who have the funds would see your idea as stupid. See how I was laughed at for mentioning 20million here? That is part of what is killing ICT in Nigeria. If I said I wanted to spend 200million on importing rice now, people will see it as good business.
Our mindset, even that of the developers is so off.

That explains why Nairaland still has only 1.6m+ members. Nigerians think lil of the software profession. Yet they expect all software to be free. They dont mind expensive phones and gadget though.
