I have an HP Spectre Laptop, which will only power up when the power adapter is plugged in. It will not power up on battery only. Once powered up I can unplug the adapter and it will run on the battery. The adapter works properly in charging the battery as well. The battery holds a charge for the duration I'm using it.

this is a hardware issue and your battery is the culprit here.
I will advice you try another working battery on the laptop. I believe before you try 2 or more functional battery, you will get the one that will power it without the aid of the adapter. if after doing this, it fails to power on with battery, a hardware engineer is worth visiting.

i just bought the battery, brand new, it shows orange colour when charging and it stays on after removing the charger, the only problem am having is that it cant power up on its own except i plug the adapter

I am a computer hardware engineer and I can confidently tell you that the problem lies in your battery.
it doesn't matter if you just bought the battery today. The inability of the battery to power on the system alone is because it doesn't have enough voltage to power on the laptop but can continue to supply voltage to run the circuit of your laptop. Hence, advice you change the battery to an original one. Let the seller give you waranty on the battery.

this is an operating system problem.
The best way to solve this issue is to reload your OS after backing up your files.

If you don't want to do this, you can install CC cleaner and use it to clean junk files that slows than your system. Install and use malwarebytes antivirus to remove POP ( potentially unwanted programs) that comes with other software you have installed on your computer but they affect the performance of your computer.
A slow computer can also be caused by a clumsy hard drive or a HDD with bad sectors. Try using the " defrag" app on your computer to defragment your hard drive. You might also consider increasing your RAM size if it is on the low side.

from the image you uploaded,your screen is obviously bad. Hence the problem maybe coming from there. Try connecting to another screen and observe the difference.

Also, it may be that you failed to connect the signal cable properly to the signal cable connector. so you may decide connecting it properly again.

do these and get back to me on your results.
