Thank you very much. That is very helpful. It's a standard two bedroom flat. How many birds will you stock in a square meter for example? I can then work it out.

Thanks again.
Different birds with different sizes
Example
100 broilers will stay in a 12 by 16 ft size room to 12 wks
Same size of room will take 150 Cockrail
And for laying birds it can take 80 this is cos the stay longer between 12 to 18 months and they need ventilation for optimal performance and this is for deep litre practice caged birds use lesser space

My main interest is actually chicken processing, that is buying live chicken and selling frozen chicken. I have got my equipment and will start in January by God's grace. I will appreciate any general advice or input about the market. Has anyone here done something similar? Isit possible to work out chicken table weight from live weight? etc.

Thank You

You will have to get a bottle of cold water and 5kg of popcorn and get your phone or laptop fully charged, then go to page zero(0) and start reading from there am very sure there are loads of useful information in between those pages. I have done it before and trust me I am going to do it again (read it again). I saw this thread when it was on page 35 and I read through the whole pages. I will the pics.

Very possible
The first thing is to understand ur location demand
The next is to compare it prices
Locate the source of live bird supply compare the size with the frozen chicken in ur area.
Compare the prices with ur labour then ur good to do

But their is a very large market most times u cant meet up with supply agreements

In terms of marketing obj is better cos their birds has bee good height and command very good weight

Not that others are not good they are also good but based on marketing in my area
If u ask me to grade I will put it like this
Obj
Amo
Chi
Rto
And zartech

How ever this is my personal opinion and it may differ

I saw some broilers in cossycute farm and she said they were from obj farms through you. They look tall and heavy.

They have crd and someone suggested they reduce their feed and if possible feed Grower feed for a week because all drugs outside tylodox have been used and it is still not gone.

The question is can heavy weight cause crd in poultry?

Humm......Marketing? How about the health issues. I know someone who complained bitterly about OBJ broilers.
And based on my little experience, I think your birds needs to stay alive and stay healthy before they can make it to the market. If birds are healthy, you are not likely going to spend fortunes on medications.
Out of the 142 birds I got 3weeks ago, 102 birds were said to be from OBJ, 8birds had already gone to the grave beyond; out of the remaining 94 birds I still have about 4 or 5 birds on my prayer list that are giving me serious head ache, it cost me alot just to keep them alive.
Now the remaining 40 birds I got are said to be from Zartech. These birds are gift from God. They are very strong and healthy. Please note that am a farmer with little or no experience. This opinion is purely based on my little experience and the observations of small group of farmers I spoke with.
Now about SIZE and WEIGHT, I will score OBJ broilers very high but very SICKLY.
Zartech broiler are very strong and healthy but with steady growth (in size and weight).
I will like other experience farmers to submit their opinion and observation. Regards to farmers in the house especially Noel.

The question is it deep litre or battery cage
Then the feed is it compounded or finished feed
Then if all the is well what signs did u see to confirm CRD cos sometimes a bird snoring is not always CRD cos heavy bird must snore and it's natural for broilers to snore due to fat and weight just like big size human being has 97% chances of snoring if u can confirm all this I will give a permanent cure if it's CRD

It's deep litre system and she uses topfeed finisher (mash) at 7 weeks of age.

The 80 chicks looks heavy with 2 unable to walk. To confirm whether it's crd or snoring, I may not know.

Health issues depends on management many times ur bird may fall sick simply because of an over looked sign that's why I don't like when read up some signs u don't ask questions and u treat it can result to adverse effect on ur birds.

Do u know that it is not good to keep treating birds every day cos it may weaken their immune system
The birds u bought @ 4 wks how sure are u that they followed a calendar from day 1

On this thread someone reported that the obj birds I sent to him , he didn't loose 1 till 32days u can go back and read thru.
But the point is how sure are u of the management before u bought the birds and did u see the day old carton to know the source.

Let me give u example
A woman from ondo town called that she needed 1000 broilers from ondo town on a Monday and I told that she should wait till Thursday for the birds cos obj broilers are usually Thursday's but she ignored me and gave someone money from floor in Ibadan and they supplied the birds she even called me just to tell me that I find know what I was saying.

At 3wks the birds started dying every day in dozens she was ashamed to call me, but within 1wk she lost 400birds and by d time I got there I discovered the birds have marek cos they were hatched by individuals and they did not do the day old marek or io when I saw the carton of supplies I wept for her ignorance
If this birds where to be sold to u and u were told is obj where is the evidence that it's not obj

So the issue of sickness in poultry if it's not terminal it maybe 97% management error

If u can confirm I would have known what to do cos many times we mistake snoring for crd

The feed is good and atleast u confirmed it's heavy I think the birds are very healthy cos if it's CRD it will weaken them but if u confirm u can chat me on 08135348909

Hi everyone,

Can I get an idea of how the cost of live chickens and frozen chickens compare in different parts of the country. I am about to start a chicken processing business. Our plan is to buy live chicken, clean than and sell them as frozen chicken.

As always, all contributions are greatly appreciated.
