Please i want to know your view on disconnecting gearbox from radiator because of transmission oil and coolant mix in gearbox. I think the cooling effect from the radiator will help the auto gearbox performance. What is the best way to solve this problem. Is it total disconnection or replacing the radiator. The gearbox still works perfectly but the gearbox and the radiator has been disconnected because that is the best option now as suggested by a gearbox mechanic. But I think this should be a short term measure,or is this option okay for a long period

Temperature is the worst enemy of auto transmissions. Therefore driving without any form of cooling is gambling with your transmission. Replace the radiator ASAP or you can install an additional auto transmission cooler if you want to bypass the trans oil cooling through the radiator.

Please I would like you to help as I have almost the same symptoms of transmission failure as you have.
I have a Hyundai ix35 2010 model and It was diagnosed with this codes po741,po733,po735 and po722 all PENDING as written on the diagnosis kit, also c1203 PRESENT as written on the kit.

My worries now is what exactly is the problem of the car as it can't move again?

Please give guidance or what to work on and direct me to your shop or any good transmission repairer.

VANESSA HANSARD has been in financial services since 2012. Prior to starting in the financial industry, Vanessa was a student, legal assistant to a prominent attorney, and a gymnastics instructor. When Vanessa was introduced to the industry, she was working 3 jobs trying to put herself through school.

www.syncis.com

The flexibility and part-time income potential of this industry is what originally motivated her to get started. Nevertheless, in a short period of time, she saw the greater potential of the company and industry. Prior to this industry Vanessa says that she didn't even know what financial independence was. Her plan was to go to school and start a family and maybe hopefully make 70-80k on her own maybe even one day break a six figure income after X amount of years and years of education and hard work. The vision she had for herself was that of a boxed life and she couldn't see any more or any further because she's never experienced it or believed it was even attainable.

Coming into this industry really opened her eyes to the possibilities. Vanessa credits her success to the leadership, system, support, and teamwork of the company. Vanessa was one of the youngest people ever promoted to Field Director in the company. She also helped establish the San Fernando Valley affiliate office.

Your transmission has a lot of issues. Serviced/worked on it recently? What distance has it covered?

Those codes are transmission related, affecting different ranges. I have seen transmissions come down at 30,000 miles or even less.

My car has been running like this for over 4 years, radiator was disconnected from the transmission because water get mix with oil all the time.. I'd love to know more about this or should I say I am more interested in how to by pass the trans oil cooling through the radiator by installing an additional auto transmission cooler.

External transmission coolers are small radiator-like heat exchanger and could be of 3 types.
1. Tube and fin Type
2. Plate and fin type
3. Stacked plate type

These above are normally installed in front of the AC condenser and they are cooled with the radiator fans. The hose from the transmission is run to the input of the cooler while another hose is run from the output of the cooler to the transmission. Ensure you get the cooler with its inlet and outlet having same size with your transmission hose sizes for easy installation.

These cooler are available on Amazon and other online stores and they are easy to install. Ensure you buy the one with the right GVWR rating for your vehicle if you plan to be towing with the vehicle.

https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_1?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=transmission+cooler

After the installation, ensure to add additional transmission fluid and check the level is current as recommended by the car manufacturer.

If you have no space in front of the condenser, there are coolers that come with fan and thermostat assembly. These can be installed remotely with the engine hood where you have enough space. The fan will come on and off as controlled by the thermostat.

What are the symptoms? If your ATF is dirty already, just servicing the VB alone will not cure it, as it will get recontaminated.

The symptoms are: it is sluggish when climbing. It starts on gear 1 and changes to 2 and 3 but as soon as I want to climb, it becomes sluggish but that is the way I drove it to the East and back to Lagos.
I bought new atf oem t-iv and changed it before I traveled to the East. So where can I service the VB.

Thanks.

What is the ECU commanding? Do you have flares? (as if the car goes to nuetral)?

When lockup is commanded, the ECU leans out fuel supply. This happens at higher ranges. If there is engine performance problem, it could be mistaken for transmission problem. Scan and post any code(s) here.

Transmissions with electrical issues dont need a rebuild. You just correct the fault.

The term 'Rebuild' is used when a transmission is dropped, and all soft parts, and some damaged/worn parts replaced. Most times, the torque converter is replaced. In your case, your transmission was not rebuilt.

Congratulations!

Thanks for your time. Kashif,

The codes initially was P0016 and P0746 and P0776 but by then I have flares on shift 3 but after that I decided to change the atf the second time but to oem recommended t-iv and bought a new filter and couple with the fact that the gear man clean up the filter second time. After I used the car to travel to the East, the flare stops but on my way back to Lagos the car became sluggish while climbing the hills especially on Asaba to Benin road.

Have you scanned again? Do you know in which gear the sluggishness is evident? Filters dont cause flares in a particular range. So, after Asaba-Benin road, the sluggishness stopped? I am just trying to determine if your problem is actually in the transmission.

Dear Kashif,

I have not scanned again since I came back to Lagos. The sluggishness is evident after shifting to gear 3 while about to climb the hills. The sluggishness did not stop till I got to Lagos but the hills from Ore to Lagos are not as high as asaba -Benin road. When the gear is cold, it jerks when I shift to reverse position.
