if he had issue with his quantitative because he had little time to do calculations which really way him down, what about his Verbal? definitely, he must have had issues with reading as well which perhaps way him a little bit up because 132 is greater than 131. Hence, Proved !!! .grin

Abeg what's the difference between them grin grin

Don't you think it is embarrassing discussing someone you do not know this much? Sometimes when people do not declare all that was said and use bla bla bla, it is because of situations like this where we all analyze all and what not. For all you know, he might have just written the exam for the sake of embassy to prove his genuity to the VO.

Thanks for your kind response. Can you suggest schools?

From what I know, UL Lafayette don't fund incoming grad. students but their tuition is around $20k per year I think.

Good morning my people, Happy new year in Advance... I want to ask this on behave of a friend, she is an HND holder and will like to apply for master degree in the state, how will she get her transcript evaluated , for instance if she is using WES.. will her school send over her transcript to WES. (how will she go about that to make the request in school) or will she be sending her statement of result herself to WES like i heard schools don't disclose transcript to student , pls share more light to this.

Some schools take HND and their International Office does every necessary evaluation.

This thread was created for people to help each other.
when somebody asks a question, if you have the answer to the question, please just answer the question and stop asking people to read from chapter one or pages backwards.

You think its easy to read from chapter one to ten?

It is not bad to start learning how to read volumes because it is something you must learn to do.

No doubt however, for a better understanding, it doesn't hurt. I understand it could be painstaking to read the whole parts particularly, due to some dramas that deviated the thread a bit nonetheless, one could use the search button to streamline the posts one needs to read. Above all, I wish you the very best for this New Year and I pray your dreams come true.

thanks bro,
not that i cant sit for the GRE or TOEFL or that i dont believe i can attain a high score, but i am only considering the financial aspect, as an average student i need to do some tutorials b4 i sit for the exam ,and it might not come cheap, i was only considering the undergraduate option because of the finance. the o'level issue is just what am worried about.
thanks for your reponse bro, compliments

Whoever told you undergraduate is cheaper compared to postgraduate studies lied to you. Do your research and you did be surprised that it is the reverse and also, that you can easily get funding for graduate school compared to undergraduate programs.

Silent reader here. Visa approved on the 4th of January and it was my 4th attempt after 3 denials in 2016.
But I just have to give back to those preparing for interview as much I have gained immensely from this forum. So I'll start from the very first interview because I believe you actually learn more from denials.

1st interview: female Vo (1st person in line )
Vo. Good morning
Me. Good morning (Nervously)
Vo. Pass me your 1-20
(I did)
Vo. Where are you going to?
Me. I'm going to east tennessee state university at johnson tennessee
Vo. How many schools did you apply to?
Me. Well I applied to east tennessee state university, florida international university and new Jersey institute of technology.
Vo. Why etsu?
Me. Because I promised a graduate assistantship by Dr. ***
Vo. Did you write any exams?
Me. Yes i wrote the graduate records exams (passes her the printout - wrong move. Don't present extra documents unless you're asked)
Vo. When did you write this exam?
Me. I was frozen (for my mind i don Bleep up!! I was actually expecting her to ask for my scores and i wrote it awhile back and have totally forgotten the exact date)
And she denied me straight and went as far as saying she thinks it might be a fake result (for my mind, I say see gobe)
I was really down for a couple of months.

2nd interview: female vo
(Person before me got his visa to study at etsu for that matter lol. Same course too)
Vo. Next please
Me. Good morning
Vo. 1-20 please (passed it)
Vo. Why did you choose etsu? (Typing at the same time)
Me. Well I wanted a program that focus on managerial development as well technical development and after doing my research on Google etsu came up. I delved in further I realised that etsu offered courses that were focused in areas I needed development.
Vo. Sorry I can't approve your visa right now and hands me the denial slip (I could tell she felt bad about it but I knew it had to do with my first denial. The previous Vo probably noted down all my Bleep ups )

Interview 3: male Vo
Vo. Good morning
Me. Good morning sir
Vo. Why etsu?
Me. Well technology is a big deal right now and I feel this experience and degree will give me and edge in the competitive market. The tuition is affordable and during my admission process. I was in contact with etsu and thr other 2 universities by making constant enquires about my concerns, and etsu were the most responsive so I was really impressed by that (I could swear he was about to grant me the visa)
Vo. Did you take any standardised test?
Me. Me yes I took gre (reluctantly because of my earlier Bleep up from first interview)
Vo. Can I see it (passed it to him. He kept typing for awhile then stood up to enquire from the very first Vo that denied me. For my mind I say eeeh!! E don set again oh jesu. After a couple of minutes she came with him and they were both looking at his screen then she left. He kept typing then handed me the dreaded denial paper. I could hear someone from the line say eeeh behind me because i guess they expected me to actually get it too)
I was down too but got over it quickly.

26th December 2016. I was just at home after plenty enjoyment and chilling on my ps4 and thought to myself if not for denial I for dey etsu now oh for my studies. Then I decided to give it one last shot!! Before my i-20 expires. I reasoned did not want any regrets for not trying this last time and start thinking what if?
So I reluctantly paid the visa fee (54,400 nor be beans)
I actually travelled without a complete application lol. I was yet to take a new passport photograph, I haven't even printed out the appointment confirmation, ds 160, visa fee slip (i paid online because gt bank had network problems) completed everything a day to my interview. To be honest I did not care because my mind was 50-50.
I told God 'father let your will be done. If i get it fine, if i don't I won't stress. I will go back home and watch my Naruto jeje and play ps4 on top. You know best'

4th interview: female Vo
Vo. Good morning, sorry about that (previous guy got denied but stood there for awhile. Oga nor gree comot oh but i understood his pains)
Me. It's okay (I didn't feel like smiling. Someone else's misfortune should not be something to smile about)
Vo. Tell me about your study plans.
Me. Well I'll be going to etsu for my *****( named some courses and highlighted how they would be important in my development)
Vo. Why etsu?
Me. Well technology is a big deal right now and I feel this experience and degree will give me and edge in the competitive market. The tuition is affordable and during my admission process. I was in contact with etsu and thr other 2 universities by making constant enquires about my concerns, and etsu were the most responsive so I was really impressed by that.
Vo. Are you married?
Me. I'm engaged (strong home ties)
Vo. Where do you work?
Me. Told her
Vo. Who's sponsoring you?
Me. My mum ( told her what she does and that I also have my personal savings too for any additional expenses I might accumulate during my stay )
Vo. What will you do after your studies?
Me. I will be returning back home and utilize the skills I have acquired in work because quite frankly, with all that experience I will be a hot cake when I return.
(Next thing I knew. She don give me white paper and send pick up your visa in 3 working days. I was dumb founded because I was not expecting it. I just wanted to give it one more try and fulfil all righteousness.

I went through the effort to write this for those going for interview. Don't make the same mistakes I did. Rather learn from it, one silly mistake can make things really difficult. Visa denial is not the end of the world, just have that at the back of your mind. If it happens refire and prepare better. Vo's have few minutes to make decisions, their jobs can't be easy.
For those who got it without stress should thanks their stars and those who struggled like me will understand the dissapointment before the joy. Perseverance is key, don't give up on your dreams.
God bless you all smiley

owenlinks, congratulations to you.
On a quicknote, you kept on repeating the same thing.
The question " why this school" is very sensitive. There's over 1000 universities and colleges in the US, why did you choose A and not B?
Alot of people talk about a particular research going on somewhere and funding.
Mehn! I really salute you, you were determined but you should have worked on your flaws earlier.
Welcome to the volunteer state, I am sure you will have a good time in JC.

With a 2.1 in economics, you can search for programs in education measurement. I think you will find it interesting.

the person gave your mum a wrong information. Do research, google about things. Stop relying on what other people say. Take charge of your decisions. It's always better to do your research then ask questions when you get confused instead of waiting for people to give you the information

His agent needs to make money so convincing him to enrol for undergraduate studies is easy since the agent can easily get him into a substandard university.

Pls kindly through more light at the bolded, when you say "starts coming" do you imply from home (our country Nigeria) or from the school, based on your T.A or G.A involvements?

If it is the later can you pls give a possible range.

Thank you

sirRiddy:
Depends on your income and fees you have to pay per semester.
My semester fees which include subsidised health insurance fee(145), engineering
equipment fee (171) and campus privilege fees(340) totals 656 dollars
Rent here is usually around 300 but can be as high as 600
depending on your taste. Also, most accommodation would require a
one-time deposit before you sign a lease. Mine was 400 dollars.
Grocery should be less than 100.
Utilities also depend on where you live. I pay for light (25 dollars)
and phone bills (40 dollars).
Unless I overspend or have emergency expenditure, my monthly spending
usually does not exceed 500 dollars.

In bigger cities like Austin, Boulder, or the east and west coast cities, the cost of
living is higher. However, grad students earn higher too to offset these expenses.
If you have about 1500 dollars before you arrive, you will be pretty comfortable before
stipends start coming in.

Why don't you take the initiative to call your school and explain? Ask them what you would need to show at the POE.
