Nigerian forward nets brace as Leicester beat Everton

Musa scored twice in five minutes to notch his first goals since October and settle a hard-fought third round tie at Goodison Park.

Leicester fought back to move into the FA Cup fourth round as Ahmed Musa's double clinched a 2-1 win at Everton on Saturday.

Claudio Ranieri's side fell behind to Romelu Lukaku's strike after the break, but Musa had come off the bench as a first half substitute and the Nigeria forward made the most of his opportunity.

He scored twice in five minutes to notch his first goals since October and settle a hard-fought third round tie at Goodison Park.

Musa's heroics ended Leicester's run of 10 away games without a win in all competitions and ensured the English champions avenged their Premier League defeat against Everton on Boxing Day.

England striker Jamie Vardy was missing for Leicester, but Ranieri gave a debut to Nigeria midfielder Wilfred Ndidi, who completed his £15 million ($18 million, 17 million euros) move from Genk this week.

The 20-year-old was keen to make a positive first impression as he tried his luck with a long-range effort that was deflected to safety by the massed Everton defence.

Demarai Gray's pace caused problems for Everton and the Leicester winger forced a decent save from Joel Robles in the early stages.

Foxes striker Leonardo Ulloa came off with an injury late in the first half, with Musa on in his place.

Chances were limited for Ronald Koeman's side as they struggled to find any rhythm and Belgian striker Lukaku wasted their best opportunity just before the interval.

Koeman sent on Gerard Deulofeu at half-time and the former Barcelona winger made a key contribution when Everton took the lead in the 63rd minute.

Surging down the wing, Deulofeu raced past Leicester defender Ben Chilwell and whipped over a cross that Lukaku tapped in from close-range

But Everton's lead was short-lived as Musa equalised with a scrambled effort that went in off the post from Gray's cross three minutes later.

Suddenly, Leicester were clicking into gear and they scored again in the 71st minute when Danny Drinkwater's pass sent Musa clear to drive in his fourth goal of the season.

An excellent save from Kasper Schmeichel preserved Leicester's lead as the Danish keeper kept out a long-range strike from Kevin Mirallas in the closing moments.

The Italian-born manager claims the 25-year-old forward will be motivated to do more after netting twice to earn the Foxes victory over the Toffees on Saturday

Leicester City manager, Claudio Ranieri has said that Ahmed Musa’s brace against Everton in the FA Cup third round clash on Saturday will boost his confidence in the Premier League.

The Nigeria international, who was introduced just 10 minutes to the end of the first half of the encounter, scored his side’s first goal in the 66th and five minutes later, completed his brace to hand his side a 2-1 win over the Toffees at the Goodison Park.

And the Italian-born tactician says the 25-year old has been putting a lot of efforts in training, adding that his presence in the game was too much for their opponent’s defenders.

"It is important for Musa because I saw him in the last month and he is much better," Ranieri told Leicester Mercury.

"Maybe he understands better the Premier League, the fight, and everything. He was a very good threat to Everton.

“It was similar to Jamie Vardy. Everybody was calmer when he attacked the space. It was good.

"Every league is different. In Italy, there is more tactical and the players must work so hard with the movement. Here you have to understand the spirit of the competition. Every ball is the last ball.

"He was used to playing in Russia. In Russia he scored a lot of goals because he was quicker than the other defenders. Here everyone is quick and strong. Now he is more confident and for me much better."

Same here. I've since ceased to be a fanatical supporter of Chelsea the moment the coach started benching Nigeria's highest paid player ever and second most decorated after Kanu. Ordinarily, I should still be supporting Chelsea because of Victor Moses but I don't know why I don't see the dude as a compatriot. Watch as many Chelsea fans start decamping. The worst in terms of Nigerian fans will hit Chelsea when they must have squeezed out all the juice in Moses. By then, we'll be back to the days of Arsenal and ManU fans in Nigeria.

Chelsea became the darling of football lovers when the club has the highest number of blacks in their 1st 11. Now we have other clubs doing same, even have Nigerians playing prominently in their team. Leicester City and Watford Fc are example. the only love i have for Chelsea now is because of V. Moses. i will devote time to watch Musa and Ndidi. Success and Jude hasnt been featuring in Watford FC and it borders me.
