That's what i said about melon but it didn't come to pass. Will get to 30k easily but probably by march.

Some commodities will experience slow growth as cash inflow thins in January

It's a new year, budding with new opportunities. We had more of a sinusoidal pricing last year mostly defying the pricing norm.

However i believe some of us were able to make marginally profit in most of the commodities stored or transacted on.

I believe it is at this period of entry into the new year that reviews of pricing and timing of exit should be done to effectively maximise profit.

Goals ought to be set and milestones noted. Our target is to ultimately make profit and with the dynamism of the market, adaptability is key.

Let's all review our assessment of the agro commodity last year, indicating our strengths and weaknesses which gives birth to opportunities and threats.

We are all evolving masters of this game now so i expect a brainstorming session that translates to growth.

Security Issues.
Be security Concious:- A prospective buyer just got duped some days ago out of curiousity and perceived "greed". He attempted accessing some markets alone without adequate information.

It's not just sufficient enough to know a location but to understand the dynamics of the environment. Regardless of how much of the local language you understand, always thread carefully.

Always try to break the ice using an indigene, it always help set the climate for effective business association.

I have often had to go with 3 or 4 people to access new markets and for large purchases in unfamiliar territories.

While most transactions are cash based, always hold limited cash in the first and second instance. You can always have a friend close by who you can call if you need more cash.

Reviewing last year
I had presumed someone else was going to bell the cat but since we have none yet, will lead the way.

This should have come earlier in the year but better late than never

EGUSI
Performed poorly and below expectation especially for mid range entrants. Didn't make the climb beyond 35k and has been stuck between 28-30k for a while.

Based on it's performance, i am reviewing the entry price for this year to 14k-20k. Any price above that is a no no for storage. I will also implore those who intend to buy to sell at the first price surge.
Re: Agric/grains Commodity Purchase/storage by Olayimikami: 8:31pm On Jan 10, 2017
I will be buying early this year and intend to form a cluster group for the purchase. Those who are interested and want to partner on this can reach me so we can hold a meeting where certain parameters can be agreed upon for this year's project.

The target is to get a maximum of 400 bags which can be sold as is or peeled and sold. Entry period for this is still July/August but planning starts now so tasks can be assigned and sales strategy harmonised.

I have often noted though that while the unpeeled egusi storage has capacity for good ROI, what determines real price growth is the peeled egusi and this has potential for continual turnover unlike the unpeeled. The unpeeled operates more on speculative pricing

For those who have capacity for supply of peeled egusi within their market domain and are already existing members of their market association, we can partner to satisfy such request on a weekly or monthly basis.

Please note that for either of the partnership, presence at the meeting is required prior to investing.

My numbers are active again and once a list is compiled, a date can be fixed for harmonisation of the project(s) and to set targets to meet our goals.

Meeting can be in any of Lagos, Ilorin, Abuja, Nasarawa, Kano or Benin

MAIZE
Maize has done excellently well, if you didn't buy or you haven't; please feel free to join the train now. It still stands out to me as one of the best buys of last year. I have a feeling it may hit 200/kg with the way its going and only just committed to buying more. If you experience challenges with sales, feel free to buzz and i will get you a buyer.

For the adventurous mind, one can still come onboard for marginal gains provided near zero cost of logistics is incurred in storing it

SOYA
King Soya has also done well, trading @ 100/kg prior to the yuletide but closing in on 130/kg now. Most warehouses are full but demand for it is simply "crazy". I hitherto only had a market for this in feedmills but can conveniently channel to exporters now.

For those who have ample time and want to invest in this, you can pm or indicate interest and we can go "bush ministration" together.

While i really would love for partnership on this commodity, it requires commitment and manpower to source for it from multiple markets so availability is absolutely necessary

Note that at the current price of soya, it may be better to supply than warehouse. Alternatively, funds can be applied 50:50

GROUNDNUTS
Currently trading at 380/modu, thats 38k a bag in most markets, 45k-50k in Nasarawa as at last week. The margins here are beautiful but always remember that modu conversion differ. If prices are too low to believe, confirm the modu size. The only accurate measurement is the per kg comparism.

I have however found pleasure in trading this commodity in the last one month. I actually sleep better knowing the prices will rise the following week as demand outweighs supply in my locality

Note that there are about 3 varieties and knowledge of the preference in your locality is key. Some contain more oil than others and are better priced.

Enough said. If i say it all, who would pay me for consultancy.....

Maize turned black? That's strange.
Sourced from Nasarawa and Plateau. Taraba is also good now.
TP from abj is btw N500- N4000 depending on which location you pick. The further you go though, the cheaper it is. Better to store where you buy to save cost on logistics.

You can use zinc phosphate capsules or alternative for preservation

When the maize is not dry enough it turns black, got to know from my customers, mucor like wen u keep dirty dishes form on it.
Even though u wash it the final output is blackish. It was also strange to me cos on the outside the bag of maize didn't change colour until we opened it.

Olayimikami:
As earlier indicated,i will be delivering yams to lagos so intending clients do not necessarily need to come up north.

As a followup to that, i am currently in lagos setting up the modalities for it's workability.

I will also take out time to meet investors who had earlier indicated interest in the agro value chain but distance was a constraint.

Hopefully i will be in for the next one week in order to setup the current location and delibrate on alternative locations.

Orders for yam will be taken from second week in december and deliveries will only be initiated from 1st week in january.

Current location is in the Ejigbo-Isolo axis

As they say in lagos, eko o ni baje......

Purchased my first batch of yams this week. Prices obviously higher than last years but still sellable at a fair margin. Bought 1000 tubers already and will be picking some more on sunday at another local market.

Logistics has been a challenge but i will continue buying to beat the price surge which may occur soon from influx of warri buyers.

Interested parties can contact Maya (+234 818 564 8505) on whatsapp only please or myself for orders (strictly lagos) for direct supply. I will also be in Lagos briefly sometime next week.

Like i initially indicated, ejigbo will be our main distribution hub while we already have interest from contacts in setting up a magodo & agege cluster.
Re: Agric/grains Commodity Purchase/storage by Olayimikami: 7:03am On Jan 14, 2017
Minimum order for alternative location is 2000-4000 pieces so one can pick a 7-10 tonnes vehicle which will move the yams directly to your location. Anything lower than the minimum order may lead to higher logistics cost for individual purchases.

Individuals from similar location may also form a group to make up the minimum quantity needed. Purchases can however be made to beat the surge though goods can't be moved until the minimum quantity is reached.

You may need to indicate whether you are storing or buying to sell immediately as that influences variety to be purchased.

Please note that larger yams will occupy more space hence the wide margin of 2000-4000 tubers.
Re: Agric/grains Commodity Purchase/storage by Olayimikami: 7:50am On Jan 14, 2017
Yam prices between 18- 25k for each 100 pieces. Laada @ N500 for each 100 pieces.
