How Viagra put me for trouble


“One, two, three, four…” Papa Sulia counted the ripened mangos on the mango tree in our compound. He had taken charge of the mango tree as if it was his ancestors that planted it. We had lived in this compound for more than eighteen years so no wonder he felt he alone had a right to the mango tree and its fruits.

“Papa you will break your neck o, this one you are twisting your neck like a colic chicken” Sulia said, chewing gum like ashawo.

“God punish you! Na your mama and her family members go get colic” He hissed and continued counting,” where I stop oh?”

“papa na three you stop” Jumai said, licking her lips.

“ yeye pikin! Na four I stop jare….” He trailed off.

The sound of something heavy crashing to the ground sounded and they all looked back. Muka was lying on the floor, saliva dripping out of his mouth and he was panting like a nine months old pregnant goat. Sulia cat-walked to him and felt his pulse.


“ papa , Muka don die o” She said.


“ Na… na… na.. you …. go death.” Muka managed to say, “ Na plane I wan look, my head con carry me fall for ground.”


“ Eyah, your head is your only problem.” Sulia said sympathetically. “ Papa make we kuku use Muka do money nau, as be say he dey no useful.”


Her father stared at her for a long time and hissed. “You no say make we use you yourself,na muka wey hin head no fit produce five naira. Jumai go bring Marker for me”


Jumai ran into the room and came out with a black marker. Papa Sulia collected it from her and climbed the mango tree. He signed on all the ripe mangos before jumping down.


“Na four ripe mangos o, make I hear say one miss inside.”


I was observing them with half mind. My own problem big pass their own. My prophet in church told me that I will conceive again and that child will the one to uplift the family. The problem now is how to convince Papa Sulia not to use his white sugar nylon protection and to release his protein inside my womb. “ Mama, mama,” Rokibat ran towards us.


“ You swallow speaker?” I asked, “ why you dey shout?”

“ Mogbe ooo!” I screamed. My father was old and he does not sleep. He will just be murmuring and staring into air. “ Who bring am?”


“ Na Big aunty, she say she dey go vigil this night.” Rokibat replied.


“ Na wetin happen?” Mama shege asked.


“ No worry, Rokibat, go buy me sleeping tablets”


“ For where?” She asked.

Jumai was sleeping on top Muka, using his massive head as pillow. Tajudeen don hold wall dey sleep, Sofiat don sit on potty, her head against the wall sleeping. Sulia was playing with her visafone while Rokibat was snoring.


“ Suliat! Omo Olele! Where the mericine I keep here and where your papa and granpa?” I asked.


“ You say make I give grandpa hin sleeping tablet and make I put the other one for Papa drink. I don do am.”


“ Mogbe ooo” I was already sweating. “ I no say make you put anything for your papa drink o….i say make you put grandpa own for hin tea.”


She hissed.” Na the same thing we dey talk nau, I say….”

The door opened and my father staggered in, sweating.


“ Baba kilo de?” I asked.


“ Omo mi…..omo mi” he said and crashed to the floor.” My blood o, my blood dey hot. My apoti ibile wan tear comot o”


“Apoti Ibile?” Sulia asked.


Sulia has killed me ooo. Maybe she don give the Viagro to Baba o.


“ Where your papa?” i asked.


“ He say hin wan go sleep and he comot go outside.” She replied.


“ yeh kpa!”


Baba started removing his cloth, his hands were shaking and his Apoti was really trying to tear out, it had risen so big and it looked swollen.


“ I no know oo, “ Baba screamed, “ Is my end near?”


Suddenly Baba stood up and removed his short.Sulia and I screamed and we ran out of the room.


“ Bimbo! Bimbo! Wa ran mi lo wo!” Baba shouted, tugging on his apoti.


“ Sulia! See wetin you don cause ooo” I shouted, “ where your papa come go now? Where we go find am reach. You carry Baba sleeping drug go put for hin drink”


Na so we find Baba Sulia for three whole days o, when we come hear of am, we hear say hin sleep waka from Ajegunle reach Okokomaiko and hin go sleep for main road. How he take survive am?, na only God know o.
