It's one although it might end up being an hindrance.

I was already taking programming lessons online at CodeAcademy.org but I decided to apply for Switch.ng since my others ideas are yet to "click".

You can visit Switch.ng to see how well it goes.

Thanks for the info,
Please, the codeacademy.org seems to be opening as full stack academy.org , are they the same? and secondly, is it totally free of charge?
Thanks a lot.

must I stay in Lagos to apply?

I think so since you'll be teaching in Lagos. But if you stay outside Lagos and have the means of coming on weekends, you can give it a try.

Sorry, I meant CodeAcademy.com

It is free-off-charge although you can pay to have a tutor, which is not compulsory. You only need to be serious and motivated.

What are you saying? what 20k can do in this recession? You can also give Op 100k to start business nah

Baba, to be frank with you, recession or not, if you cannot do anything meaningful with 20K, even if you're given 2 million, you still will not be able to do anything meaningful with it.

It is as simple as that.

Onyiridike:

How can a graduate computer scientist use his skills to make money without a job? Establish a business related to his discipline right?

If he doesn't have the money, he can use your head right?

I pray you find yourself in some people's situation, and then you realize how wrong you are?

Yeah right.

Madam, go on, you hear

Just keep on making excuses for the OP, no, for yourself.

Seriously, I hope your excuses will provide the solutions you guys badly need in the end.

You're asking me how a COMPUTER SCIENCE GRADUATE will be able to make money without a job?

Obviously, that goes to show that the COMPUTER SCIENCE GRADUATE wasted his time in school without learning anything or most probably, he was hoping to get a job with his certificate without acquiring any meaningful skills to back the certificate up.

But that's not his fault because that's exactly what being brainwashed into having 'job mentality' does to people.

Job mentality makes so many people put their fate in the hands of another person without necessarily seeing the dangers in doing such a thing on time.

This explains why so many of our wasted youths are whiling away their time in the school because they already believe that once they have the all-important certificate, they will certainly get a job somewhere from where they will be earning their monthly salary and no one will even be asking them for their skills.

But unfortunately for them, times are now changing.

The ugly reality is now beginning to dawn on so many of our graduates.

With no job in sight plus no skills to back up the certificate, you don see as kasala don burst na, abi!?

Python is a great language, and most people have attested that it's easy to learn. unfortunately am working with java currently, but nevertheless there are good ebooks and videos online that can put you through. you should search for a whatsapp group for python here on nairaland and join, there you will meet like minds and they will reccomend you to good ebooks, videos, and how to set up a programming environment for python on your laptop, google will also be helpful. good luck on your endeavour!.

Baba, I'm sorry but this thing is not about you.

It's not about me, either.

It's about our future because we are all in this shyt together.

You maybe thinking you are the only one going through the difficult phase hence your mentioning where the shoe pinches you but I am here to tell you that so many youths are going through the same thing as you.

Like I mentioned earlier, it is not really your fault.

This is what the school system has done to all of us.

The system made us all to love jobs rather than focusing on developing our talents and skills to cope with life after school.

Take your case for example.

Do you know that Mark Zuckerberg originally designed Facebook with PHP?

Take a look at your qualifications again.

Believe it or not, the difference between you and Mark is that Mark utilized his own knowledge of PHP to create Facebook but in your case, most probably you just learnt one or two programming languages and then left it like that.

And that's probably because you were already thinking of how to make a STRONG 2.1

All thanks to that terrible school system

During your time in school, did it ever cross your mind to develop an app even if it is a simplistic adding and subtracting app to teach small children how to add and subtract?

No.

During your time in school, did it ever cross your mind to start a blog that you can monetize with Google AdSense so that you can be earning something, no matter how small?

No.

Why?

Because of that same horrible school system that strictly focuses you on making a STRONG 2.1 and nothing else.

Please don't take it personal.

Like I said earlier, it's not about you or me.

It's about so many of our youths who are still believing in those lies that school system is still selling to them.

You know the worst part?

Even those your friends with 2.2 are not even better than you. Just wait for their companies to downsize and you will see how they will start to wail and complain.

So, the earlier we all realize that we can actually be doing something with our knowledge and skills rather than wasting it away all in the hope that once we have that certificate, everything will fall in place for us, the better it will be for all of us.

Thank God you have come to that realization.

What remains for you now is to either swim in self pity hoping that someone will connect you or to take up the challenge and make a way for yourself and the society at large.

Good luck.

Sorry for the interruption, I don't usually have time online, would have expounded more than this, but I can suggest that if you want to go into programming, you should start with the easier ones- compiled programming languages such as php or python, you can top it up with java or mobile development... Money is hanging in that field if you know your way, but I also suggest strongly that you look into responsive designs and graphic development, if you know your way the sky is your limit.
Re: Now I Believe In Connection by Danyl(m): 10:24pm On Feb 21, 2017
All those stories some people are saying up there that you can't make money on entrepreneurship
is just a a waste of time. If you know your onions well, govt job or private job will be distasteful to you..
Most people don't know what it means when you are just in one redundant position, no improvement, you can't have control over your time yet people want to be rich.. Salaried jobs won't make you rich cos it was not designed with the intention to make you so except you work in an oil company where you are paid monies you don't work for..
I have seen people who started from scratch online without any formal education and are making hundreds of thousands monthly in there rooms, yet you see graduates running up and down with CVs here and there.. Robert kiyosaki once said if you want to be rich don't go to school.. its a mental cycle that keeps you in circle if you don't know how to channel it to useful and great use it will be history within short period of time.

I guess you don't know what kept Nigeria where it's today, is because we give up so easily, we sick for immediate and short time solution rather than generational life time solution. Trump said it too. We are so impatient that we can kill our fellow human to make money. Believe you me, if that guy dares sell akara today with situation in the country and starts making a little cash, believe me he will never pausue his vision or dreams; he will stick to selling akara and forget that he has a career to build. Yes agree one can start up something while waiting for job opportunity, but I advise he goes for a business or a part time job in line with his or career to enable him keep up with his dreems. Let's learn to build a nation and not just a home
