Hmm.. My reasons..
1. Texas does not need ielts
2. It is a compact state
3. Less tax
4. High wages due to low cost of living
5. Diversity. The black community is massive

@barbiee. Your number one reason is wrong. Texas Nursing Board require ielts
Check below

If you have never been licensed in the US before you would need to apply through the Examination process.

A completed application for licensure through Exam for International applicants includes:
(1) NCLEX-RN/NCLEX-PN application and $100 fee*
(2) A fingerprint submission either on a fingerprint card or electronically through MorphoTrust USA. Applicants must be living in Texas to submit fingerprints electronically otherwise a fingerprint card is required.
(3) CES Course by Course/Professional Report. The Board only accepts CES reports from ERES (www.eres.com), IERF (www.ierf.org) or CGFNS (www.cgfns.org). The CES report will verify if the applicant's qualifications are comparable to Texas educated nurses and if there is anything lacking (specific classes or hours). Applicants are notified by letter if the report indicates something is missing.
(4) Passing results of an English proficiency exam. The Board accepts TOEFL, TOEFL ibt, IELTS, both TWE & TSE, and PTE. An English proficiency exam is required if the CES Report verifies the applicant was educated in a language other than English. The required minimum passing scores are listed on the BON website.
(5) Verification of Licensure (VOL) from every country/state an applicant was granted authority to practice nursing. The VOL must be sent directly to the BON by the licensing authority.*
(6) Registration with Pearson Vue (www.vue.com/nclex; $200 fee)*
*expires after 1 year

Once all of the above is received an applicant is ready to be deemed eligible to test. There is no specific order the paperwork must be submitted but all paperwork must be received before an applicant can be deemed eligible to test. A social security number is not required to receive a license; however, without an SSN applicants are not eligible to apply online and the background check may take longer to complete.

Applicants must also take the Nursing Jurisprudence Exam (http://www.bon.state.tx.us/olv/je.html) Applicants must take the Jurisprudence Exam prior to taking the NCLEX

As of July 2016 international applicants will be ineligible to test for Texas if they have not practiced within the past four years and are more than four years past their graduation date.

Sincerely,
Norma Ballard

@waterfas what i meant was ielts is not a requirement for Nigerians because we were taught in English unlike other boards who made it compulsory for all international applicants weather they were taught in English or not.

@ogwashiukwu, yes ielts is needed for the visascreen process but it's not a requirement for cgfns. It can be tackled later at any stage during or after CES.

Hello friends and families, please I wrote IELTS last month & my results were LRW (7), S(7.5) with the intention if migrating to AUSTRALIA, BUT I discovered that the procedure is giving me much headaches, please, are there other countries that I can try with lesser distress.
Note: I will love to move with my family ( husband & two kids who are 9 months & 2+).
I will cherish your advice.
Thanks.

not yet, I'm scared of spending a lot of money on the ielts test but if i do decide to risk it then i would apply to alberta. Better pay, less tax, beautiful state. I would also consider going through Omni college if the dollars is made available.
Do you want to start your canadian registration now? [/quote]

pls barbie or any one In the house know any thing about Germany since USA is now a no go area, lets try that side .

All the countries will definitely give u some hard times but u look at the reward at the end. pls I tap into these your ielts result.

I agree with ogolikpo1, if you really want to practice in Australia then you should try to stick to your decision and things will work out eventually, what exactly is giving you problem?
Re: Nigerian Nurses And Midwives With The Dream Of Working Abroad Let's Meet Here. by barbiee: 9:20am On Apr 17, 2017
To work as a nurse in Germany you need to have a good knowledge about the German language, you should know how to speak, read and write in German cause charting will be done in the language, after crossing that hurdle then you have to find a hospital that will accept you for a one year internship or volunteer service. This service is unpaid, after that you have to write and pass a written and oral exam then get eligibility to practice, with that you can get a real job but take note that the pay is poor and your scope of practice is limited.

Hello..can we chat?
ogwashiukwu:
What most people fail to comprehend is that you can't do without IELTS. Irrespective of the State you intend to practice, you must prove to a consular officer at the US Consulate in Lagos that you've met all the general requirement for EB3 visa, simply put as immigrant visa/green card. CGFNS Certification+IELTS= Visascreen, also, CGFNS CES+ NCLEX+IELTS= Visascreen. In fact, when you come for a visa interview at the Consulate, the consular officer would be interested to see Visascreen certificate before he/she can make a decision to grant/deny a visa application.
The only way you can escape having IELTS result is by visiting the US with a B1/B2 visa and subsequently enroll for nclex, pass and change your status while in the US.

Why limit yourself to a few state probably 5 States out of the 50 States in the USA when you can freely expand your horizon by just having an IELTS result. Other states like Florida, California and Washington DC do not require IELTS result too, but you wouldn't know about other conditions until you start processing with them. For example, Florida board does not require IELTS and SSN before NCLEX but, your license will not be issued without SSN. How did I know? My wife used Florida board for her CES and when she got an agent that's sponsoring and preparing her now for NCLEX exam they told her that Florida board has many issues and they are expensive too.

Presently, She's enrolled with Minnesota board for her NCLEX exam with only $105 fee.

Please feel free to correct me if you feel that what I put up there was wrong.

Finally, based on my years of research on Nurses's immigration to the Western World, America has the lowest English language requirement for foreign educated nurses unlike, the UK, Scotland, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. So why can't you utilize the opportunity now to move on. Besides, on my research too, Nurses in the US are better paid than anywhere in the world that's why you see nurses from the UK and Canada migrating to the US. A Philippine nurse in the US said she earns 3 times her salary in the US than when she was in the UK.

Just trying to make a common sense.

I can argue the bold but before I do, what is the hourly rate for a new graduate nurse in the US?

What is the penalty rate for over time, weekends, afternoon and night shifts?

I agree that some states may pay better than the UK because I have met many UK trained nurses who left the UK due to low pay but to say the US pay better than the rest of the world is a bit of a stretch don't you think?

I am not a nurse but i have worked with Canadian nurses on a contract job. The US pays better than canada in all health care careers. Alot of canadian doctors migrate to the US for better pay. Alot of Canadian nurses migrate to the US for better pay, more career options and less job competition.
Maybe someone from other part of the world can give more info.
But really, the pay is not much of a big deal sha. The ones that do not pay up to the US is still very good pay in their respective countries.

The person I quoted said the US pays better than anywhere in the world and that is what I am trying to understand.

What is the hourly rate of a new grad nurse in Canada and the US?

what are the penalty rates for Canada?

I am really curious to know the hourly rate for new graduates. We all know nurses' are paid according to experience, so lets start from the bottom

@ WellEndowed, I'm not here to argue out/ debate with anyone here, but If you say you're knowledgeable enough in healthcare and have family members who are all healthcare professionals, please feel free to educate thousands of Nigerian Nurses on this forum on how best to immigrate to countries of their choices.

i know most nurses starts between 28 to 35 CAD per hour in Canada depending on the province. That is if they are lucky to land a job after grad. Nursing jobs are very competitive in canada hence it drives wages down.
Oh...my wife works in healthcare too, and my flatmate (i work outside my home province) is a public health nurse at director level with Health Canada. She has Bsc+msc in nursing. She has worked as a nurse for years in Canada and the US. I have seen her payslip and also know how much she earns. Engineering technologists at my work place with 5years work experience, i.e grads of 2-3 years program in community colleges make around the samee wage as my public health nurse flatmate. Someone on such career ladder would be balling in the US. She moved home to retire.

After a little web research..The pics below confirms what i said earlier on about nurses wages in Canada. would anyone be kind enough to post that of other first world countries? I am not suprised at the low wage in ontario..very notorious province for paying health workers low wages. angry

I saw this online for nurses in Ontario. How true is this?

What is starting hourly wage for RN in Ontario?

Generally speaking, rates of RN pay are based on a years of service scales, and start at $21.75 per hour reaching as high as $40 per hour.

In acute care, new graduates are paid $30.17 hourly for annual salary of $58,831.50. The full-time RN base rate range run from first year pay of $28.08 an hour ($53,040 a year) to 25-year pay of $40 an hour ($78,000 a year), according to the Ontario Nurses’ Association.

Overtime pay is typically one and a half times the hourly rate. Advanced Practice Nurses, Nurse Practitioners and nurse managers (who have earned Masters degree or higher) earn higher salaries.

What is hourly wage for (an acute care) RN with five or more years experience in Ontario?

With five years’ experience, acute care nurses are paid $36.12 hourly for an annual salary of $70,434. An acute care RN practicing for 25 years is paid $43.61 an hour for an annual salary of $85,039.50. Can I work more to boost my pay?Working overtime, nurses can add to their salary at any pay grade by 20 percent or more.According to the Canadian Federation of Nurses Union, the average weekly share of nurses who worked paid overtime was 18.7 percent (relatively unchanged from 2010) or roughly 7.3 hours a week. So five years into your career, assuming you worked average paid overtime, that would add another $13,711.15 to your salary of $70.434.

i did not know you were actually replying my post as well. That post for ontario would likely be true. All health care professionals are paid low in ontario. A nigerian lady moved from there to saskatchewan bout 2years ago. She got a pay difference of about $10 dollars when she moved for the same level of job she does in ontario. Pharma for example get paid as low as 38 bucks an hour in ontario but this same pharma could get as high as 52 in manitoba. Too much competition in a place drives down wages

The 21.55 could be possible. Agencies and new migrant nurses ensure rates go low.
I know agencies were offering a very silly wage for some relief hours for my wife too.lol. she is not a nurse though.

California is one state that pays well. The other states not as good

e.g. Arkansas $26.62

Illinois starts from $24

So does your work wife get penalties for working pm shift, night shift, weekend and over time?

i do not know about the penalty rate..not a common term here. The job contract job i worked at was at a children hospital, and the a zimbabwean nurse said he only gets about two 8hrs shift a week. He works casual shifts at a care home to make ends meet. He has been at the hospital for over 2years ... and it seems they are not interested in offering him a full time position.
I heard nurses in the northern parts of provinces get paid well with lots of overtime, but who wants to live in a frozen desert? ...lol
i do not know about the wages in the US but most of the nurses i have met would migrate to the US if it was very easy. The US had recruiters coming over to canadian universities in years past, but i think times have changed.
