After a few quarters of negative growth that saw the death of businesses, the Nigerian economy is out of recession, but “conditions remain difficult for businesses,” World Economics said Tuesday.

World Economics is a London-based organisation dedicated to producing financial analysis, insight and data relating to questions of key importance to the world economy.

“April Sales Managers’ Index (SMI) data suggests that the Nigerian economy is continuing to grow out of the recession which saw 10 months of consecutive contraction in 2016,” it said in a release published on its website.

I think it's plausible Nigeria is out, or will come out, of recession this year. Remember also that for recession to end, the economy simply needs to stop contracting for at least 2 quarters (6 months). Therefore, the end of recession doesn't necessarily mean that things will start getting better but that it will stop getting worse.

Actually, when an economy requires 3% annual growth just to keep income per capita steady, all it means is that the rate at which things are getting worse is slowing, not that they've stopped worsening. Nigeria's growth isn't forecast to reach the 3% figure this year or next, so things will in fact continue to get worse for the average Nigerian.

Which recession did they fall out of? They are digging into the mother of all recessions. Watch as they use Niger delta money to dig for oil in Sokoto
