I think that's just the setup at Madrid. Kroos receives first and Modric does the carrying. Kroos is a different player for Germany. Where I'm disappointed is he has stopped running hard since going to Madrid. He now runs barely over 10km per game which indicates he is just cruising. However Redondo was also weak in that physical aspect, even weaker sef so Kroos still ahead for me.

It was actually Roman Abramovic/Ranieri that chased Jody Morris away. i was surprised they let him go though cos his love for the jersey was apparent and he could have been a decent squad player.
Lampard was a late developer, the guy studied football and his brain took him the extra mile when he got into his 20s. His natural talent was not off the charts

That midfield was not that dominant nor consistent. They had 2 European wins but were not steamrollering teams consistently. Redondo while technically classy also struggled physically in many matches.

A bit of misty eyed revisionism if you ask me as well as Manure fans overtripping over his performance against them. Let's just say Makelele was an improvement on Redondo in DM position in 2000.

The only point I will concede is that Madrid have hardly had a long-term midfielder in the last 30 years that stayed for 5 years in the first team. So chic2pimp could be right if Guti is the main competitor or Zidane who was washed from 2003 to 2006.

If the debate is the primary task of a DM, then Maka is an improvement on Redondo.

As for over-all play and skill-set, Redondo na Makalele big brother.
