My Toyota Camry Pencil Light V6 Revving Itself by rexfada(m): 1:34am On Jun 03, 2017
Hello great minds,

I recently got a Nigerian used Toyota camry temperlite with v6 engine.

So I started hearing some noise like the exhaust was leaking from the bottom of the ride, the more I drive the vehicle, the more the sound increases. Someone looked at it and thinks it's the exhaust net that is not there, and probably the exhaust has a leakage somewhere, so we got the net from Ladipo market (Lagos).

When the guy (panel beater) got to work, he discovered the net was ok, but he tried and close every opening in the exhaust system.

When he brought the car back in the evening and explain all that to me, the car now developed a new issue;it started revving (firing) itself.
So, we took it to a muchanic to help us diagnose why the rev, the mechanic concluded the exhaust is blocked, that we need to fix Catalytic Converter (catalyst). We got the cat yesterday from thesame Ladipo, after fixing it, unfortunately the rev remained.
So, I'm totally distraught right now. Where could the issue be coming from, what could be the cause?

The panel beater is suggesting we take the ride to a mechanic in Ladipo, but I want to avoid him and his suggestions henceforth, before it'll lead to something bigger. The ride never had this issue prior to when he worked on the exhaust.

Mind you, the car is still very much driveable, and the earlier sound from the exhaust is gone.

Experts in the house, what do I need to do about it please?? Someone help!!

OP...you came late, because some experts here like gazzuz will not attempt yo attend to a car that is already kazzeemized, you ought to have come for their advice before you bought d ride and even if it's immediately after you bought it.but what view see here is too much of trial and error...even I as a para auto technician will never attend to that car..but I will just assist a bit, probably d kazzeemized have tampered with d throttle body, you should tell dem to clean d throttle body probably with carbon cleaner...not sure of dat is your case though

Check the throttle position sensor adjustment ,and also the vacuum hose clearly if it well routed accordingly.
Find a competent technician to run data stream on the powertrain .The root of the issue will be revealed clearly to an expert eye.

@ops ,a customer brought this same issue to me yesterday,a Sienna 1MZ-Fe engine and I discovered that it is related to a loosed throttle cable .check the nuts holding the cable ,they are loosed .

@ops ,a customer brought this same issue to me yesterday,a Sienna 1MZ-Fe engine and I discovered that it is related to a loosed throttle cable .check the nuts holding the cable ,they are loosed .

It is still a possibility for said described issue by the op ,I cant give a definite diagnoses based on customer observation alone cos such data is not always accurate and objective. Hence physical inspection done by the expert is non- negotiable for diagnosis.
