I drive a 206. I was taking my son to school when it suddenly stopped on the way. rewire came and said a wire burnt and he fixed it. same thing kept reoccurring I. e driving and suddenly going off. and rewire kept fixing.

one day, my hubby took it to church and same problem came up. a mechanic nearby fixed a wire for him and the car started. hubby drove a few seconds and the next thing, the car was in flames. he quickly put it out with water and detergent and same rewire was called who drove the car down to his workshop and left it there overnight to start work on Monday.

Now, it's close to 2 weeks now and no show. car has refused to start at all, it just kicks but doesn't start. he's told us to buy another BSI as the one in the car melted with the fire.

what's your opinion please? sorry if I didn't explain well, I really don't know all these technical terms to use

ps: we contacted a mechanic in abj who said the bsi goes for 17k. planning on sending money to him tomorrow but I'll love to have your opinion. I stay in akure by the way.

So, has the abuse been diagnosed & reversed before considering buying or swapping in another BSI kit? What makes the electrician think the next BSI unit you will put is covered in Blood of Jesus if the cause is still there?

You want my advice? Find out why the car nearly burnt to ashes before the discussion of buying another BSI kit even begins. BSI unit is a module; it's an ECU, just like a desktop CPU or Laptop. What do you think will happen to a computer if you supplied it with 500 volts?

hmmm, thanks for your response. I guess you've been offline all this while that's why the reply's rather late. anyway, the money for the bsi has been sent and bought. We were told to send the brain box, burnt bsi, fuse box and the ignition key for them to code them together or something like that. i attached the pics.

hmm, seems the rewire doesn't really know the trade as another customer there had to angrily take his SUV away from him which was fixed very well at another electricians shop. he compounded the problem with his trial and error.

when the parts arrive, we'll visit a Peugeot specialist for the proper diagnosis cos from what you wrote, seems the same fault might still persist despite changing the parts.

I also saw several posts claiming that the Toyota TIV ATF is compatible with JWS 3309. Does anyone have experience with ATF change for 407 V6?

I've been wanting to buy a Nigerian used 206 or 307 but a friend who buys cars from d UK and converts for sale has been pressuring me to buy from the UK and convert it here in Nigeria claiming that Peugeots are d easiest to convert and have little or no adverse effects as most stuff like d master cylinder are on d left hand side even in d right hand Peugeots.

So I was able to find this ATF which seems to be the recommended ATF for AM6. Changed the oil yesterday and testing to see how it shifts.

Goodevening, my 307 makes a squeaking noise at startup and stops around 3 mins after driving. It's a low pitch noise that comes from under the hood around the passenger side. please can someone recommend a good peugoet mechanic in Abuja. Thank you

Update:
I didn't get a response after my post so I tracked Ikenna and retrieved his phone number from a previous post he had made. Booked an appointment and had him diagnose my car.
Verdict:
He is really good and very thorough, found some errors after scanning which fixed. He saved me a couple of bucks trial n error mechanics would have collected.
Conclusion:
He didn't ask me to give a recommendation but I choose to anyway because I was impressed.

@Ikenna351, for a while now I have not been driving my 206 at night cos my full lights will not switch on. The parking lights, pointers and normal lights are okay. but my full light has refused to switch on. when I switch it on from inside, it brings the icon on the dashboard that it's on but outside, the full light isn't on. I approached a rewire who found out that the bulbs are already blown out, he changed them yet the full lights refused to come on. he then remove my bsm and replaced it with another bsm that was replaced in another 206 cos the car won't start. after it was fixed, my full light was switched on and it came on fine and full. but my car didnt start. Right there, the rewire asked me to replace my bsm and solve the problem. my doubt is that, do I really need to change bsm just cos my full light is not coming up? thanks, your advise will be valuable cos I don't have money to spend ooo. thanks

steel gaskets (Multi layer steel) should not be reused. Same with stretch bolts.

When an engine is faced with overheating issues, the mating surfaces (block/head) do not always maintain a smooth even surface.

In some cases the cylinder head becomes warped.

The cylinder head can be taken to a machine shop for resurfacing, to attain smooth surface, but not every mechanic has access to such equipment. (remote areas)

Composite gaskets (paper type) are used in such cases to get proper sealing of the mating surfaces, they are made from either graphite or asbestos. In nigeria its more common to find the graphite type. The thickness ensures that when head is bolted on to the block, it fills up the uneven spaces.

The reason why mechanics do not use the steel type of headgasket after an overheat episode Is because 100per of the time it will result in leaks/loss of compression.

Graphite gaskets are not bad, as long as they are replaced each time engine is dismantled.

I have used graphite gaskets in a lot of vehicles (some running over 7years now) without any issues.

Graphite gaskets are more friendly to use in cases of overheating, and rule out the possibility of leaks after a head job.

In a lot of cases where the block and the head are made of aluminium, after an overheating episode, both surfaces become uneven, and will require extensive work in a machine shop to resurface both surfaces. In a situation where only the head is resurfaced, the uneven block will cause leaks if a steel type is used.

For vehicles like peugeot (newer models) they are sensitive to abuse, the use of paper type of gaskets will slightly affect compression ratio even though quite negligible in most cases.

You get a better compression ratio (manufacturer specs) when you use the steel head gaskets, it is also more tolerant to overheating and will not burn out as easily as the graphite type.

In summary if you want to use the steel type of gasket after an overheating episode.

1. Ensure the head cylinder is properly skimmed in a machine shop.

2. Replace stretch headbolts

3. Properly and evenly clean out the block surface with a sandblock of the right gradient.

4. If block is aluminium dont even bother with the steel type of gasket.

If you cannot go through this process, stick with graphite (paper type) head gasket, it will work, an will last, Get a good brand.

I am yet to see a vehicle manufacturer that produce or use automatic transmission that is more durable, has low maintenance & replacement cost than manual gearbox. Why expect it differently when it comes to Peugeot?
