This is why Nigerian graduates are not just unemployed but UNEMPLOYABLE. Your " writes up"...really?

The certificates of many Nigerian graduates have better value as toilet paper or wrapping groundnuts.

The truth is our education system is producing "graduates" that are not fit for purpose. This is the reason why when you apply to Chevron, NNPC, CBN and co you get rejected. This is the reason why children of the elite get chosen instead because these people have gone to quality institutions abroad and the employers know they will get a minimum quality out of them. Show me a graduate who went to a good university abroad who is unemployed. There are jobs out there, beleive me employers are looking for people every day. But the Nigerian graduate cannot even construct a sentence, he does not think, he lacks initiative, you have to tell him how to do everything and remind him every day...that's why except for menial jobs like sales boy/girl, when an employer sees you went to a Nigerian university especially the mushroom ones, they just toss your cv into the dustbin.

Tommorow when election comes and you decide to vote based on tribe and religion not track record and ability to deliver, or you took the 5,000 from one politician know that you created your own future.

Most graduates are just graduates by certificate, not learning. Who to blame? The universities. They do "let my people go" so students now hav d lazy mindset of "even if i no fit get A make dem giv me my 40 and lemme go jere.
Go to china, japan and even india, there is a set of scores u must have and nobody is doing upgrades for you... and u must not fail because no good school will admit u again!
Let schools stop mark upgrading and you'd see seriousness in students...

...all dat being said, there are no jobs out there, d small ones available are rip-offs #25k for a graduate is blue-collar. And the govt+politicians see no nid to create jobs... they lack d skills to do so, only corruption skills

My dear, don't mind the Op. People will just come up to spew thrash about how Nigerian graduates are unemployable.

Where are the jobs? Which company has come out to complain that they are short of staff due to the fact that Nigerian graduates are unemployable?

I tell my friends that my Definition of degree is this "HARDWORKING FOR A USELESS PIECE OF PAPER. "most of us lacks creativity thinking that the the paper (degree) will cover us up.. No, it can't.

The world have changed.
Stop carrying CV or Resume seeking for job. Tear your CV, it's no longer needed in the job market.

What is the difference between your CV and other thousands of CVs in the job market?

There are so many formats of CV writing. The bad news is that none of the formats is important since CV itself it's no longer needed for employment.
Whether you want to work for yourself or for someone, I want to show you what you should start doing, starting from right now.
Instead of scripting and carrying around the perfect CV, I want you to focus on PERSONAL BRANDING!

You will remain a cheap and an ordinary employee until the day you discover that you are a brand.
Now, let's go through the keys of the smart income mastery system.

Basically, you will need to discover your PASSION, find your PEOPLE, create your PRODUCTS, choose your PLATFORM, and increase your PROFITS.

its funny because in england if you say you are going to university they look at you like you are some type of stoneage prehistoric dinosaur. I dont even have the liver to tell white boys about anything university because to them its a strange concept. like over here from the age of 16 they all go into building or plumbing or roofing or auto mechanics etc etc. thats the culture here. only a tiny amount of these white britons venture into university. meanwhile the black man is the exact opposite. all their british universities is a money making venture for foreigners

Bros you have said it all. In a country where the "graduates" are complaining, you have Wasiu the mechanic building his house, Tunde the mechanic buying his second land, Chidi the Carpenter sealing his next contract. All this from menial Jobs. The average Nigerian graduate looks down on these set of people but in reality these people are better off than them financially. All Nigerian graduates want a blue collar job. Where they'll go to an office and sit down inside AC but the reality on ground is that these kind of Jobs cannot go round.

Another thing I also blame is the value of our currency. When these foreign countries say they have reduced employment by so so so percentage,it's not by office work. It's mostly by menial Jobs, and the pay is good. If our pay structure in Nigeria is re-structured,it can reduce unemployment. And also I believe if the value of the Naira increases,it will reduce unemployment.

Depends what you want to do, some jobs require the theoretical background and won't even consider you without it while others don't and the degree isn't really of much value so I definitely hear you, I guess it's up to the individual to do the research and avoid just going to uni for the sake of it

True Indeed but as a man of higher sophistication you can bring that sophistication into your acquired skill. for example you can set up an automechanic outfit that has a waiting room with AC and cable TV and a juice bar in it and nicely carpetted and wifi access etc etc. bring the sophistication to your skill and that way you dont feel like you are a common roadside mechanic. thats what you gotta do

Good day to you, I do comment on post on nairaland here when is sensible to me, so yours it's one of such. it baffles me how a country will have more religion places than industries. In this country churches and mosques will acquired acres of Land just because they want to serve God and these practices can be easily done in our different homes. I have said many times that even if we used all our lands for establishment of religion houses and we fail to tackle our problems fundamentally this country will forever remain stagnant, solutions to our problems goes beyond prayers we need not to act as an hypocrites to Challenges confronting us.
To me Nigeria problem is a consipiracy between the Religion Leaders and people in helms of affair in Government setting it's sadden and bittered my heart how we got to this level we are now. Over 50 years of independence Nigeria as a country is yet to boast of any tangible achievement and numbers of churches and mosques goes high everyday and the nation is going backward. I will stop here and continue other time

assuming all graduate have these employable skills,
DO YOU HAVE JOBS FOR ALL OF THEM?

Threebear:

Most senseless post I've ever come across.
A real country does not wait for her citizens to create the right aptitude to be employable. It makes her citizens employable by fitting them in, in whichever level their skill sets permits.
People like you are the reason why our leaders keeps taking us for granted, you give them flimsy excuses. Nigeria has failed her youths and people and someone like you turn around to blame the people for not being able to secure Jobs which were not really there to begin with.
You must have drank ogorogo this morning.

God bless you sir for this post. The government feel they can get away with anything(which they do) because they know some people somewhere will still find a way to defend their actions.

I don't just know why we(citizens) can't stand up against our government that has failed us on all levels. At times when some people come up with this type of plan, they get shut down by others who will always have a reason why the government isn't performing well. A good example is the 2face protest that eventually didn't go as planned.
