Nigeria, Brazil, Spain and China were in the same group during Football World Cup in preliminary round.

The four teams played one another and each team played 3 matches at the end of the preliminary round.

How many matches were played altogether in that group at the end of the preliminary round?

Sorry for taking so long. I used 12th degree of the binomial theorem(pascal's triangle). Hope you know about it. If we expand
(x +y)¹... It equals x + y (their coefficients being 1 and 1)
(x + y)²... You'll get coefficients of 1 2 1
(x + y)³ gives...... 1 3 3 1
(x + y)⁴ gives.... 1 4 6 4 1
Now, if you look closely you'll notice that the sum of two consecutive coefficients of the previous degree gives the value of the coefficient of the corresponding next degree.
For example in degree 1, we have, 1 & 1(I want to obtain degree 2 coefficients from 1). We take it that zero(imaginary) is standing by the left side of the first 1.. So 0 + 1 = 1 (first coefficient of degree 2)... 1 + 1 = 2 (second coefficient of degree 2)... 1 + 0 (by the right of the second 1)... That's it 1 2 1...
Let me try to get degree 3 from 2..
Recall two is 1 2 1... Now 0 + 1= 1(first coefficient of degree 3). 1 + 2 =3(second coefficient of degree 3)...2 + 1 (by the left of 2)= 3(third coefficient and second 3 of degree 3).... 1 + 0= 1(last coefficient). So with this you'll be able to get the coefficient of any degree you want.
N. B The first and last coefficients are always the same i.e 1. You should also put the powers(degrees) of variables into consideration.
If I expand (x + y)³ I'll get(using the coefficients 1 3 3 1)... 1x³ +3x²y¹ + 3x¹y² + 1y³ which can be simplified to x³ + 3x²y + 3xy² + y³... If you look at the powers of the respective variables you'll notice that the sum of indices will always be equal to the degree(i.e in this case 3).
See....x³(total 3), 3(x²y)(total 2+1=3), 3(xy²) (total 1+2=3).....including that of y³.. Sorry for the long story.. I hope this'll do.. Thanks.
