Please can I use a 1kva stabilizer with a 1.2kva Inverter system? As the voltage in my area fluctuates and I don't think the mercury modified wave Inverter I'm using has inbuilt AVR.
Thanks

I think you can under certain conditions. Make sure you have a good supply say 160v. 100v will work but the stabilizer may over heat if nepa voltage is low and inverter load is max.

I have same inverter and use 1kva stab. It works well till voltage gets to less than 100v while carying many load especially during bulk charging.

Lets do some approximate calculations.

Say you are using a 12v 200Ah battery, this inverter uses 20A for charging 200Ah battery.

Power = Current x Voltage = 20 x 12 = 240w

Therefore during bulk charging, the inverter will draw 240w.

In addition, all appliances plugged to the inverter on line bypass during charging will still be on stabilizer. The 1200va Mercury inverter is rated 720w or so (not very sure). The limit to the load you can have on that inverter is that so you cant got more.

This brings our total stabilizer load to 720+240=960w.

A 1kva stabilizer with power factor of 1 will carry the load. But most are not. I will say more like 0.9. So most 1kva stabilizer will safely carry 900w.

But you shouldnt load your inverter to maximum, so 620 would be the safest maximum. 620+240=860w.

860w inverter max load is less than 900w stabilizer max load.

With this, you will be safe. Like i said from begining low voltage reduces power factor so your stabilizer will start to heat up as voltage goes down from 220v.

Hello gurus in d house,I just got 4 200ah batteries fairly used that showed 12.5 on a multimeter test box.I also got an emel inverter 12v which I guess its 800watts (about 1.1kva.)the four batts were connected in parallel yesterday.problem is that I have a Samsung digital inverter fridge/freezer which i guess d inverter should carry well.attached here is the fridge's specification.to test, the batteries were charged full after 10mins.so I ran it with d fridge,5 energy saving bulbs and a led TV tho in standby mode(attached is the power specification).
Problem 1-the battery power showed low batt after like 2hrs ie with d fridge
Problem 2-been charging this batteries for like 8hrs now with my 2.4kva gen but hasn't been full yet.nb..I don't have NEPA light yet.
Question 1-what is the charging amp of my inverter as they are no amps written at d back
Question 2-why would it run down in just 2hrs considering that the fridge is inverter technology?and the batteries are four
Question 3-how many hours will I get to charge this 4 batts connected in parallel. Is it 4*6hrs?
Question 4.what is the running wattage of my fridge and TV?
Question 5.-on the inverter what is d meaning of unregulated and regulated mode.and pls confirm if its truely an 800 watts inverter. Thank you all

Nb.pic 1. Led TV

Pic 3 inverter front
Pic 4 fridge specification. Digital inverter compressor

It is highly probable that one or more of the batteries are no longer performing at optimal level resulting in uneven voltage and discharge rates. I would discharge the batteries individually to confirm how strong they really are. With regards to the wattage of the appliance, what does the display on the inverter show as a load when the fridge and TV are on? e.g is it 50,75 or 100%? From there you can get a good idea of the wattage, if unable to get the information from any other source.

It is generally advisable to size the inverter at twice the size of the intended load. Also as already stated by another member, if the charger inside the inverter is 15a then it is too small for the size of your battery bank, you need at minimum a 20a intelligent battery charger. With good/new Deep Cycle batteries and correctly sized Pure Sine Wave Inverter, I would expect your LG inverter fridge and tv to run for 10 hours or more.

@spinola..tnx for d advice. I've disconnected d batts and am using only one at d moment.so I need to get atleast a 2.4kva that will charge two batts faster.and then maybe get an external charger to be charging the remaining two batts to be used alternately.lemme ask I understand that a 2.4kva uses 24v.should I connect this two batts in parallel or series

Your problem is dis, apart from the ba3 wch i want to believe is in good condition, your inverter has a max charging current of about 15amps.you parallel four 200ah ba3s to it accumulating to 800ah/12.
Now let's do d maths 800ah/15a= 53.3hours, about 2days plus to get ur ba3 full. Solution is whatapp 08117398294 let me give you a smart external ba3 charger.
N:B there is no enough info to check consumption of ur fridge except mayb we follow up those serial number n compressor number wch I don't really have d time. Good luck.

@zeestone 99.tanks for d advice.
I've checked d fridge model online all to no avail.I disconnected d parallel and used only one batt which indicated full.then with 5 energy saving and 1 led TV.it lasted for just 2hrs.the batts are like 3yrs old tho.but from your calculations does it mean I will need 16hrs to charge only one batt that discharged in 2hrs with minimum load?

You're Welcome, Sir!

The two 12v batteries should be connected in series to get the required 24v. Because of the fridge, The inverter should be Pure Shine Wave, In the case of Mercury, the lowest Pure Sine Wave Inverter is 3kva 24v with inbuilt 40a charger which will charge 2x 200ah batteries to full in 3 hours with NEPA light. http://mercurydirect.com.ng/product/mercury-3-kva-soho-pure-sine-wave-inverter-24v/

The Mercury 2.4kva Modified Sine Wave Inverter is recommended for those who wish to power TV, fans, lights, laptop, smartphone etc without appliances like Fridge and Air Con.

For one battery, your charging time ll b 200ah/15a= 13hrs, note dat u can't completely drain a battery, lets say u drain up to 30% of 200ah,u ll have 140ah.
Calculation ll b 140ah/15a= 9hrs

How is your battery doing ? Its 3 months or so old now.
Nkdave:

Good-day, please I want to ask a similar question to the member above, but with modifications; I've recently got myself the same type of inverter you got; 1.2kva Mercury, and tried going for a 200Ah "belgium" battery, cos of the price of a brand new one, but turns out second hand things don't like me either. So went back to seller, and seller advised I go for brand new 200Ah Trailer battery, because it is cheaper, but tells me honestly that he doesn't know about its durability or longevity.

I've tested it on yesterday on the following; Lounge, one 21" hunch back tv = 90w, + its home theater system = 40w + Hd receiver = 20w + one regular ceiling fan (maybe 60w), + one bulb = 11w, total = 221w
Bedroom, one 14" hunch back tv @60w, + its home theater also 40w, + Hd Receiver @ 20w, + one regular ceiling fan @ 60w + one bulb @ 9w, total = 189w. Sum total = 410w.

The battery got fully charged (4th bar on inverter stopped blinking) after like 3hrs, 30mins. (Maybe because I put inverter to 20A charging current). And battery depleted after just about 5hrs, 30mins on the above load.

Questions; please any idea on how trailer battery should function (am I getting good value for my money, considering load and set-up)?
2. Do you think that 20A of charge current on Mercury inverter is too high for the batteries and might subsequently cause problems to it early in life.?
3. I have an Hp Compaq laptop, notice it seems to be consuming energy, as when I turn off tv to conserve last bar on battery, and plug in the laptop, that last bar still complains as though the TVs were still on, (don't know its wattage). So can changing some of my equipments like tv and fan to new modern ones help increase my battery ON time Or is this the number of hours I can continually expect from the battery regardless, being a trailer battery.? In a day we see Phcn like total of 12hrs broken into 4 different sections.

Thanks.

What's the cost of 1kva Inverter?
Re: Inverter Users : Lets Have Your Experience by Nkdave: 2:21am On Aug 10, 2017
Hmm, dear brother,
Battery has been trying it's best oo, "I cannot lie for battery" lol. Over the months, I've learnt how to conserve and utilize energy to my benefit.
What I noticed is this;
1. Battery can last to its maximum which I am discovering to be 7hours or so, if battery gets good charge, i.e, between 4 to 5 hours charge.
2. Fourth bar of battery at good charge, depletes after 1hr, 30mins on initial stated load of 189w, but on the 221w load, it depletes after 1hr.
While 3rd bar depletes after 3hrs, 30mins on 189w, and anything between 2hrs, 30mins & 2hrs on 221w, as I have come to realize that the 21” hunchback tv comprised in the 221w load, has actually got a transformer inside it instead of a transistor, hence that 90w imprint on its back na wash.

Then 2nd to last bar of battery last for up to another 1hr, 30mins on 189w, before entering into the final bar, and then start crying. After which, I switch inverter off and all electronics, and fans, leaving only light bulbs and phone to charge, then switch inverter back on, and 2bars appear again immediately, which now stays for upto another 2hrs, coming up to a total of 8hrs +/-.

Thanks very much for asking, as it shows me that we are all looking out for each other on this thread/forum..and forces me to evaluate the battery and inverter performance put together.

Now I'm thinking of including one mono solar panel to the set up for better back-up, as PHCN is getting "better" by thè day. In fact, at this very moment I write you this reply, PHCN has been off duty since around 7pm to be precise, and Mercury has been on duty, with cool breeze from fan and light to see my works, while the whole neighborhood is in total darkness, safe for small moonlight.

Wow, thank God what I'm using is a Canon inkjet and not hp inkjet. But I've also got an old hp inkjet, maybe I should resuscitate it, and see what stories it tells me when I attempt using it with the Mercury modified. #DoubleDare.! Lol.

adanny01:

1 and 2 okay but 3. Modified sine wave won't damage anything, it wont work with somethings such as Hp inkjet printers.

I have been using it for almost 2yrs.

How is your battery doing ? Its 3 months or so old now.

Good morning all my good people, two questions please, any one who can be of assistance;

1. I have just a 1.2kva Mercury modified sine wave Inverter, + one 170Ah trailer battery (due to monetary constraints at the time, and being experiential too), this gives me back up for between 4 to 7hrs depending on hours of charge it gets from Nepa, and ofcos my usage.
Now I want advice on wattage of solar panel I should add to the existing setup, that would provide better additional back up as recently we only see NEPA for a total of 6hrs in a day, sometimes even less.

And how much would the additions cost me.?

Regards.

Congratulations on venturing into AE, and please do not be discouraged by this current situation. I am not a pro, and I also encountered similar situation as you in my first attempt at AE, with same Famicare product.

Luckily I met up with a more sincere family that deals in the AE components, and they adviced me to return the Famicare, as its charging capacity seems to be below 10A, hence any battery above 100ah, can't be comfortably charged by it no matter how long it stays on charge, except if I want to purchase an external charger for it, which I didn't want to do, so I went for the 1.2kva Mercury, modified wave, though about #12,000 higher than the famicare (sorry, I'm not promoting any brand here oo, just stating my own ni) but since then, I think the amount of back up time I get is relatively okay in relation to my miniature set up. I have a 170ah trailer battery, not even inverter battery(dry cell). Best wishes.

You need a wattmeter to check the power usage of your devices. Laptops consume a lot of energy especially if the battery is not fully charged.

You should contact the person you bought the batteries from ASAP for a refund or replacement if the batteries are bad. There is no way Laptop, fan and bulb will run for just 2 hours with two new 150ah Deep Cycle batteries. When you take the batteries back to the shop they will charge and test with another inverter to confirm.
