Yes, you can earn a living.

Every organization needs a data analyst.

Opinion polling, NGO, Service providers and Customer research organization needs you. But you need to learn more than a software, you need to do more in knowing the SOPs of Data Analysis and Subject-specific research and Feedback.

Yes.. Education sector for university students mostly polytechnic... Just visit their science department , food science technology, SlT, Micro biology etc or visit a lab that carries out test...

You'll need to do some other things with it. Though you can make good money analysing data for people and training guys on it if you stay in a university/polytechnics etc environment where sciences and social sciences are offered. But with the present ICT revolution in Nigeria, many students especially the younger generations learns very fast and therefore now do their data analysis themselves and they teach their friends. Many will even do it for free for their friends. It can bring in some money but to rely solely on it? I don't think so. For example at FUTA, almost all students have a laptop and with that it's easy to learn and do data analysis. Nevertheless, there are many working class PG students who don't have the time, they use commercial data analysts.

Opportunities abound in the Data analysis field and it is a worthwhile venture if you have the resources to further develop your capabilities. You can be proficient in the use of CAAT tools like ACL or IDEA which is used in industries with a high volume of data e.g. finance and telecoms. Alternatively, you can focus on the emerging technologies such as Big Data analytics which has few professionals in stock, hence increasing your chances at employment. Data is the new oil and industries world over have turned their direction to getting maximum information from Data to make decisions and target their marketing efforts.
Remember: Data>Information>Knowledge>Wisdom.

Capital YES. Just make yourself visible and get close to some Professors/Senior Lecturers who have PG students that are most times so busy to run data analysis personally. Be ready to do errand boy things sha o. I'm speaking from experience.

Being a Data Analyst is a big deal in an academic and research environment. As already stated by others, you can fit into any organisation that appreciate research and development. However, learning SPSS is just 0.1% of what it takes to be an expert.
Organisations use variety of packages eg STATA, SAS,Epiinfo,R etc.
You need to show case some formal or professional qualifications such as in statistics or data related courses in order to get most top notch jobs or else you may just be a small fish in the field.

SPSS only wont take you there. try out others such as EVIEW, LIMDEL, STATA, SAS, etc. goodluck
