[quote author=sKeetz post=59951613] You guys are yet to understand that good quality education is not cheap. As at last I check, medical students in Ghana pay as much as $2200 per year which is still very cheap when compared to other notable universities in Africa. And these university is still funded by the government. If something like these is built in unilag or other federal unis and fees are increased so as to be able to maintain it, you will be the same people to start protesting. The sooner we come to terms with the fact that quality education is not cheap, the better for all of us. We like things to be given to us on a platter but still complain that they are not enough. That's why we churn out half baked unemployable graduates every year and still complain of the fall in the standard of education. If you think education is cheap, try ignorance. GOD BLESS YOU SIR |

If such proposal ever comes up, Nigeria will spend half a century arguing. The Senate would refuse to appropriate funds, ethnic leaders would argue about the sight, politicians would argue along party lines, supporter would argue about who should take credit; OBJ or GEJ or PMB and religious leaders would argue about who it would benefit most. At the end, the hospital would not be built and the sick would seek healing in spiritual houses. 5 Likes |

A masterpiece, no Nigerian Public Schools can accomplish such a feat, not anymore but most likely any of the new foremost private universities. I pray Ghana will also have the ability to maintain and sustain the structure. I heartily congratulate them 3 Likes |

Ghana miles ahead of Nigeria. The organisation and commitment in that country is top notch. Meanwhile in Nigeria Our universities are on strike, students sit on the floor, Windows and stand for 2-3hrs to receive lectures. In Ghana there's nothing like Arewa,Ipob,Afonja, Igbos, and skull miners just Ghanaians. That's why we're light years behind em. Congratulations Ghana on your steady rise! 8 Likes |

I was helping an American yesterday at work and I noticed how confident she's speaking and working, I asked myself why can't our leaders prove the whites wrong what's wrong in building a nation that's as examplary as theirs. sKeetz: Not only that. Nigerians with an enormous population then breed like rats. You see an average family having five children seeking university education, asking the government to pay the equivalent of about 30 million per head over the course of the program. Tell me. How can any government do that and still provide infrastructure like this. Folks if you have more than one brother or sister growing up right now and will qualify for college education soon and you or your parents have no intent of paying the right fees to push them through and you support the way this country is structured then you have ABSOLUTELY NO RIGHT TO COMMENT NEGATIVELY ABOUT NIGERIA ON THIS THREAD because you are part and parcel of this problem, period. What you see in Ghana and Benin and South Africa and England and Japan and....are small, sustainable populations who donot think college degrees are tickets to heaven but value them as instruments of personal and corporate development so are willing to pay the right sums to obtain them and if not have small families they can cater for. Yes, folks in the developed world jump through hurdles to get their wards college degrees, some paying huge debts years after graduation. That is value. Talking about medical school. If the basic of a qualified doctor starts at between 250 to 350 thousand. Why should the individual question a tution fee ten times that amount. Is there any venture in the world whereby you put in a tenth of the value and expect a full return. Are we not scamming ourselves as a nation......then they emigrate to work overseas after that and the EFCC does not go after them losing Nigeria billions every year....abeg restructure Nigeria now. 3 Likes |

As a Nigerian, this is such an embarrassing article to read but perhaps we need such embarrassment to realise we're being short changed and scammed by our so called "leaders". This is what we need to see and maybe, just maybe, it might prompt our leaders to sit up and do the right thing. In the meantime, credit should be given to the Ghanaians for achieving this and setting this much needed example of what we too as a nation should be aiming for. Well done Ghana! 2 Likes |
