Chapter 5

**6 months later**
"Thief! Thief!! Thief oo!!" a woman shouted. Chioma ran as fast as her pegs could carry her but luck turned against her as a man who ran faster than her caught up with her. He kicked her right leg which rendered her to the floor. Angry market women threw foods at her- eggs, tomato, onion, oranges. They beat her mercilessly. She pleaded for mercy but all her pleas turned didn't stop the angry lookers.

"You be thief, where u put the thing wey you steal? You don throw am away abi? " a woman accused
"Abeg, I no be thief" she uttered as a guy landed a heavy slap on her face sending her back to the floor. It didn't stop the people.

"I swear, I no steal anything" she said, which triggered a man's anger as he hit her leg with a stick. She let out a loud cry of pain. They hurled insults at her. Poured water on her. A woman even suggested for grinded pepper to be poured on her.

"She no steal anything oo" a woman's voice was heard as she ran towards the scenario, all eyes turned to her."She no steal anything" she continued "she only came to beg for a cup of Garri and I asked her to leave with the threat of calling her a thief but she persisted. I shouted to make her leave, not like she stole anything. I no know say you people catch am beat, na person come tell me say u don dey suffer am. Walahi! She no do anything".

"Haba! You wicked oo. Ordinary cup of carry, you no fit give am. See as the guy suffer for wetin she no do" a man who was obviously touched by the story uttered.

Chioma cried even more as everyone hurriedly went back to their businesses. No one attended to her wounds. No one cared if she felt any pain. No one offered to help. No one gave her food. She looked at her already damaged skin, thereby sighting the foods thrown at her. If they gave her half of the things thrown, she'd never have the cause to beg. She would sell them and cater for herself. She decided to pick the foods that haven't perished and sell at the market but decided against it on a second thought. She was afraid of being accused wrongly again. Who will take up her case? Who will call the police? Where are the human right activists? She asked herself. She thought of her sister and her hatred towards her grew even more. She deceived her. It's been six months, she never heard anything from her. Not a letter."Chinasa will definitely pay for what she has caused me. One day, I'll make you go through more than the pains I'm going through" she promised herself

Chapter 6

The synthetic fabrics gave her no protection against the breeze. The wind penetrated the polyester fibre with absurd ease. Cold licked at her face and crept under her clothes. She wrapped her thin cloth around her tighter. Her teeth chattered like a pneumatic drill. Her muscles were stiff from staying still for so long but she dare not move. She pitied herself, closing her eyes as she tried hard to fight the tears that were about to roll down her cheeks. The memory of the event that took place hours ago played in her head.

She had just finished taking her bath as she curled her towel round her body. Chinasa stepped out of the bathroom closing its door behind her. She walked towards the dressing table, pulled a chair from underneath it and sat. She noticed how beautiful she had become and smiled to herself. Her smile gently faded as her imagination displayed Chioma's bitter face. She hoped that her sister would understand and forgive her.

"Chioma, I miss you, I really miss you little sister" she said in a tone that sounded like a whisper. She quickly dabbed a little quantity of her 'before bedtime' facial treatment on her face after which she put on her nightie.

Chinasa pounced on her bed, hiding herself under the protection of her duvet to keep her warm. She tossed restlessly on the bed, finding it hard to sleep. It was probably the excitement of the new phone Glory got her. She picked her phone, clicked on the music icon and scrolled down the screen to select a song that fitted her mood out of the ones she had downloaded. Her song hunt was soon distracted by a soft knock on her door.

"Come in" Chinasa permitted. It was Glory, covered in a white towel that barely covered her thigh. Chinasa couldn't help but notice her spotless skin. 'I'm definitely gonna reach that stage very soon' she thought to herself.

"Chi babe, you're not asleep yet?" Glory asked as she sat beside Chinasa on the bed.

"Yes Aunty" she answered.

"What is it that has taken away sleep from NY baby girl" Glory questioned with a tone of seduction.

"I really don't know, but why are you here at this time, undressed?" Chinasa waved her hand to illustrate her question.

"I've come to say goodnight to my sweetie" she drew closer to her and rested a kiss on Chinasa's neck. Chinasa struggled to hide her irritation. She wasn't aware of Glory's intentions and she didn't like it either. She felt a soft and gentle movement on her face. She was too engrossed in her thought that she didn't notice when Glory raised her hands to her face. Chinasa took her hands away. Glory stood up, an action that gladdened Chinasa's mind.

'Oh Lord, this seductress shoukd just go' she thought. Glory took a few steps towards the door and turned towards Chinasa again. She unwrapped her tiny towel revealing her bare body. Chinasa quickly took away her eyes.

"Tell me you like what you see"

"Aunty Glory please get out of my room"

"Remember it's my house" Glory threatened as she moved closer to Chinasa. Glory pushed Chinasa, making her lie on the bed. Chinasa was too shocked to move. She remembered the moans she heard from Nancy's room the previous night. She had thought she was watching one of her porn videos. Although, it sounded so real, she ignored it. She now understood everything. Glory had been to Nancy's room and Nancy enjoyed whatever was done to her.

Chapter 7

She struggled hard to kick Glory off her but all her attempts seem futile. She watched as Glory pulled off her underwear. She thought of how she could overcome the b#tch. An idea ran through her head as she curved her leg and threw it back at Glory's face. Sending her to the floor. Glory regained balance immediately and made to slap Chinasa but Chinasa was fast enough to waive it which almost make Glory fall on the bed. Chinasa quickly made her way out of the room through the door. Luckily for her, the main gate wasn't locked. She ran as fast as her legs could carry without looking back. After several minutes of running, she made to stop, sitting on a culvert just by the road side. She thought of her ordeal. She was on the street again

"Yes sir. All done. Operation successful" The caller ended the call. At least, this was her last operation. She thought of how she has planned to live a new life. No more crimes. No more killing. No more assassination. She had considered settling down few months ago. She needed to live like a normal human. Her only bother was to find a replacement. To walk out of the 'Kaisle group, one needs to offer a replacement. She took in a deep breath and let air escape through her nostril and mouth. She was tired of her job. She look down at the gun in her hand. She had killed a thousand. She was feared by her colleagues in the Kaisle group. She got in the car, hid her pistol under the passengers' sit and changed into a casual wear to avoid suspicion from anyone. She turned the ignition on and kicked into the road.

Chinasa was bitterly cold. A wave of fear swept over her. A vehicle hardly passed by, whichever did wasn't ready to help me. They simply pretended like they didn't see her. Her waves didn't stop them either. She sat on the floor waiting for whatever would happen. Then, a black colored car parked just before her.

"Hey, what are you doing here at this time?"

"Please, help me" Chinasa uttered with the little strength in her. Jane raised Chinasa on her shoulder, gently placed her in the car and drove to her abode.

Chinasa narrated her ordeals to Jane. Chinasa thought Jane was moved by her story as she either shook her head in pity or make an 'awww' remark. In Jane's mind, she has found the perfect replacement. One who has had a little share of life's bitterness. She only needed to introduce Chinasa to the Kaisle group.

"You're all welcome. I believe by now, you all know why you're here. At Kaisle's, there's no mercy, no pardon. You need to take off every religious believes you've had. There simply is no G*d. As from now, you're gods on your own" The Lavit(a title given to the head of the Kaisle group) announced. Chinasa and fellow to-be-made assassins were often brainwashed with such sermon. They were made to believe that everyone was their enemy but they were permitted to engage in the opposite sex relationship among themselves. To Chinasa, this permission contradicted the law they enacted.

The Kaisle group 'freshers' were ten in number, consisting of 5 boys and 5 girls. Few months into the training, Chinasa met Eddy and they both agreed to be each other's companion. Over time, their love waxed stronger. The Lavit noticed as they didn't hide the love they felt for each other from anyone.

"we've found two matches already and they will be taken to the headquarter for a promotional test after the end of today's training" The Lavit instructed his subordinates.

"OK sir" they all chorused.

The trumpet sounded as the 'freshers' quickly assembled after hearing the familiar sound. It meant two things: either they had a very important information to pass across or someone was about to get punished. If it was the later, they all wondered who deserved punishment. Fear filled their mind.

"You all did well in your training sessions today. I congratulate you all as no one will get punished but some of you will have to leave this camp today" their heart skipped but no one dared to murmur. The hall was even more silent than the graveyard. " As I call the names, please march to the podium. Nansa vs Eddy and Selena vs Brian. These people are qualified to move to the headquarter tomorrow for the promotional test that will hold tomorrow." he faced the quo and motioned for them to follow him. They followed him like a puppet, oblivious of the criteria by which they were chosen. They only hoped the promotional test didn't mean danger.

"Nansa, Eddy, get ready for the big task ahead. The promotional test will commence in few minutes" the commander gave instructions as the duo stared in confusion, wondering what the test was about. "One person has to kill the other. Whoever kills will get promoted" they both stared at each other in awe. It all made sense to them. They were made to get fond of each other, knowing fully well that it is difficult to kill the one you love. Life of an assassin. Nansa thought about her fate. Just when she thought she would elope and live a happy life secretly with Eddy. She thought about how nice Eddy has been to her and the love he showed her. 'No, I'd rather have him kill me' she thought.

Eddy on the other hand has prepared his mind. He knew his relationship with Nansa will never end well. He was determined to give life whatever it wanted. Nansa will never be an obstacle.

He raised his sword to strike. Nansa looking into his burning eyes. She noticed he already got his mind prepared. He already made his decision- to kill her.

"Congratulation girl, you made it" she shook hand with the commander. She'd really miss him. She thought of how she accidentally slit his throat with her sword. She never intended it, at least not to kill him that way. 'RIP dude' she muttered.
