Nope! Construction works are still on-going at both roundabouts. sad Only works at Ikate/Elegushi 3rd roundabout has been completed. Traffic lights have been installed there, and the crossroad has been fully tarred.

Thanks. Seems they are moving at slow pace.

Any signs of construction at any of the pedestrian bridges : Vgc, ikota, Marwa, ikate?

Zero signs. They are not constructing anything. I don't know why they will leave the half done. I can't cross that express for anything.

The traffic seems to be easing off but the true test will be when schools resume next week. The traffic usually starts from the approach to Jakande. I think they made that place too narrow.

Is there any plan of removing Abraham Adesanya roundabout? Seems they have forgotten it.

Na wao. I'm really bothered about the pedestrians, crossing that express daily. Even drivers are not spared. angry

Last I passed Abraham Adesanya, it didn't look like they have any plans of removing the r/about.

Ikota school and Agungi pedestrian bridges have been finished , kudos to Ambode but do pedestrians use it? Only school kids most of the time!.

Vgc pedestrian bridge remains an abandoned project, from Fash to Ambo and now to Sanwo. Fish r/about retains its status quo and is the cause of traffic at that axis.

Another menace; BRT , danfo, keke, LASTMA and agbero operations around Jubilee bridge inwards up to ilaje.

I can speak comfortably about the Ikota Bridge because I frequent Ikota Village.

I used that bridge just last Friday evening (for the first time) because of the terrible traffic. I was to attend an event that evening, on the side opposite Mega Chicken but if was to drive through the traffic, which began at the Ikota bridge, it would take me not less than an hour to get to the other side.

I had to park my car at Mega Chicken and cross to the other side via the bridge.

Curiously, I had a mind to take pictures from the top of the bridge but dropped it thinking "what's the use?"

Thinking back now, I should have. it would have been useful to attach to this post.

Each of the two times I traversed the bridge (going and coming), there were few people crossing along with me.

These included two young men who carried some stuff on two wheelbarrows. I can imagine how difficult it would have been for them to cross without the bridge.

I also noticed two fitness buffs using the steps for exercise.

If you have passed around the area when Ikota Primary School children cross (morning and afternoon) in large numbers or you have witnessed accidents around there, you would appreciate the government for completing that bridge.

I believe the Ikota and Agungi bridges were given priority over VGC because of the larger number of and more vulnerable people they serve.

That Ikota bridge area became notorious for very horrendous accidents.

I think the former HOR member for the area, who happens to be a prince of the area, must have also brought his influence to bear in prioritising the Ikota bridge over others.

Unfortunately, he had to vacate his seat for Obanikoro's son following Obanikoro's defection to APC.

Yesterday, I came across a horrific news item about some cult clashes culminating in some beheadings around the fish roundabout/ Abraham Adesanya Estate

I was horrified to read it.

I will not post the news item here but it is shocking that something like that would happen in a very public place.

RRS men used to be stationed there.

The Ajah Police Division is just a few hundred metres away from the location.

So, what happened?

I still wonder why this thread is tucked in the travel section.

It started out in the property section before it was moved here to "Siberia"

It will serve a greater number of people in the property section where property owners and tenants (current and prospective) would find the discourse useful.

Lekki is more of a residential area than a tourist location!

Hmmmn.

I noticed that recently, rent in Jakande have skyrocketed. To be honest, i dont know how people take houses there ie (Igbara side) and at ridiculous amounts considering that area have terrible road network, flood issue, dirty and home to undesirable elements.

RE : Pedestrian bridges. Kudos to Ambode for the aesthetic look of the bridges he constructed. No one have an excuse not to use them as opposed to Fash's that will make your legs tremble, give you instant fatigue and migraine as soon as your feet ascends the second step.

I have seen an adult knocked down and probably killed right under Agungi footbridge, two months ago and have myself have escaped with a breathe, several times from knocking down stubborn pedestrians at Igbara/Jakande axis. sad

That VGC footbridge is absolute BS and should be knocked down to its very roots.

Ondo State govt to build road linking Araromi beach to Ibeju Lekki

Dede Falana

Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Rotimi Akeredolu has revealed that he has awarded contract for the construction of a coastal road linking Araromi beach in the state with Ibeju Lekki in Lagos.

This is part of an ongoing infrastructural development of the coastal area of Ondo State, which include plans to build a Seaport and an industrial Free Trade Zone.

“Yesterday! Contract for Road already awarded. Feasibility study for Ondo Port and masterplan for our FTZ already done including sand filling of FTZ site in Ugbonla, ” Governor Akeredolu tweeted on Monday.

“We have always believed that developing the South is the key to transforming Ondo State. Transforming The Beach and its environs is a high priority of this administration. The Araromi to Ibeju Lekki road and Ondo Industrial City FTZ both straddle the beach front, “the governor continued.

In September 2018, Ondo State government signed a Memorandum of Understanding, MoU with a Netherlands firm, Maritime Business Transport Business Solution Ltd, MBTS on a deep-sea port and Industrial Mega City project in the coastal area of the state.

According to a business adviser to the governor, Ayo Ipaye, the project would be all encompassing as the mega city would house the deep-sea port, the free trade zone, Industrial as well residential areas.

His words, ‘we are not just building a trade zone but a city. It will be housed on a 2500 hectares of land. It will have facilities for import, export and coaster shipments. Electricity to the city will be supplied by a 250megawatt turban. There will be free access to the state through a well developed road network and there will be access to Lagos via Lekki which will be connected directly to the zone. It will be dubbed ‘the Ondo Industrial City,” Ipaye said.

Araromi beach, which is 3 hours drive from Akure, has been described as the largest coastline in West Africa.

Lekki-Epe Expressway:

Toll Plazas

One of the first things Ambode did when he took over was to stop the planned collection of tolls at the second plaza.

A lot of agitation against the collection of tolls at that plaza had been going on for a while but Ambode took the step of stopping it.

It would be unfortunate if Sanwo Olu or any other governor reintroduces it in future.

Tolls at the first plaza were however hiked under his regime, to the chagrin of residents.

https://www.vanguardngr.com/2018/02/hike-lekki-toll-motorists-commuters-call-ambodes-intervention/

Traffic at the plaza (with the Ikoyi link bridge) seems to be increasing daily.

The mystery of the concessioning continues.

Reconstruction of roundabouts between Phase 1 and VGC

The roundabouts constituted huge bottlenecks along the expressway until they were removed.

Why traffic lights were not used instead of the roundabout from the onset remains a mystery to me.

First, the roundabouts at Jakande. Chisco and VGC were removed then those at Igbo Efon, Chevron and Third (Ikate/Freedom Way) followed later.

https://www.nairaland.com/2788913/whats-happening-lekki-axis-4#55031301

Carrying this out in phases was good as it proved the method (after the first phase) and reduced road users' hardship during construction.

The removal is estimated to have saved the State N87bn yearly.

Replacement of Ajah roundabout with the Jubillee Bridge Ajah

The construction of this bridge tremendously eased the perennial jam that had characterised the former Ajah round about. The jam was there at all times of the day!

Work started in December 2018 and was scheduled to be completed within 18 months.

http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/12/lagos-govt-approves-flyover-bridge-for-ajah-abule-egba/

It was commissioned on May 17 2017, within the estimated time.

http://www.vanguardngr.com/2017/05/ambode-commissions-abule-egba-ajah-flyovers-lekki-roads/

While the jam has eased, there remains the problem of traffic between VGC and Fish R/about in the morning when people are going to work and in the evening.

Ajah Bus Terminal

This was mentioned in Amode's speech at the commissioning of the Jubilee bridge and work actually started on it but has been very slow.

It is located just beside the bridge where the slip road was when construction of the bridge was ongoing.

I guess it is meant to be on the same scale as the Ikeja and Oshodi bus terminals.

Pedestrian Bridges

The pedestrian bridges have had the double effect of saving lives of those crossing the expressway and reducing the traffic caused by those crossing.

Work on VGC bridge however remains uncompleted.

Emergency Services
I know someone personally who was involved in a road accident along the expressway who was rushed to the National Orthopaedic Hospital, Igbobi by the Lagos State Abulance Service (LASAMBUS).

I have also personally witnessed accidents where LASAMBUS and LASEMA Rescue Unit (LRU) came to the rescue of victims in a timely fashion.

https://www.nairaland.com/2788913/whats-happening-lekki-axis-4/1#56566494

The LRU was created under Ambode, if my memory serves me right.

The Lekki unit was commissioned at about the same time as the Jubilee Bridge.

Construction of median and installation of lighting from Abraham Adesanya towards Epe

Work started around September 2017 on "expanding" the road from Abraham Adesanya towards Epe.

However, the work done has been to ro a slight extension to either side, installation of medians and lighting.

The median has the positive effect of reducing hold ups and a cidents caused by indiscriminate turning by drivers.

To the surprise (or annoyance) of most road users. the Abraham Adesanya round about Easter not removed. Instead, a large ornamental "fish" was installed to beautify the roundabout!

The work on the road now seems to have been stalled.

Ambode actually hit the ground running.

Within two weeks of assuming office, he identified and personally visited traffic bottlenecks in the metropolis :

http://akinwunmiambode.com/dev/ambode-visits-major-traffic-points-approves-construction-of-pedestrian-bridge-at-berger-bus-stop/

By December 2015 (within 8 months of assuming office), he had commissioned identified solutions and mobilised contractors to site.

The Ajah bridge and Freedom Way construction began around December 2015 and were ready for commissioning by May 29 2017 - along with other major constructions across Lagos, including "hinterlands" like Alimosho.

He completed the Ojodu-Berger Flyover Intersection; 21 roads and two bridges with a combined stretch of 27.4 kilometers in Alimosho-Agbado-Oke-Odo area within good time and they made significant impact on traffic management.

Unfortunately. politics got in the way after the two year mark. This stalled a lot of projects.

Imagine if that hadn't been the case, the projects listed in his Ajah Bridge commissioning speech would most likely have been completed by now or even before the last elections.

Let's hope Sanwo-Olu will resuscitate those projects and go after them with the same gusto Ambode did when he assumed office.

I was only echoing the usual refrain of those who accused Ambode's predecessor, Fashola, of being elitist.

On the Badagry axis thread, I got deflated when the Lekki thread was being tossed around like a yoyo.
