Sokoto state governor Aminu Tambuwal is expected to chair a northern conference on restructuring slated for October in Kaduna.

The conference organised by the Area Research and Development Project (ARDP) in collaboration with other northern platforms seeks to blend academic presentations with real politick with a view to charting a way out of the problem.

The convener of ARDP, Dr. Usman Bugaje in a press conference over the weekend in Kaduna said, "A lot has been said on restructuring and the future of the Nigerian federation for some time now.

"Different columnists, scholars and indeed cultural groups claiming to speak on behalf of their kith and kin, have made their views known and many of their views have been rushed, emotive and parochial and have added more to the confusion than bringing clarity into the debate.

"It is important that we leverage knowledge to elucidate the debate and avoid the confusion and tensions around the admittedly important matter which informed ARDP haven consulted numerous northern platforms decided to hold a conference on the issue in October in Kaduna."

"Also speaking at the opening will be the Chairman, ARDP Board, General John Shagaya, Atiku Abubakar, the Chairman of the Northern Elders Forun, Waterrange Paul Unongo and the Chairman of the Area Consultative Forum (ACF), Ibrahim Coonasie."

Dr. Bugaje added, "Some of the key papers will be on historicity of the Nigerian federation; an examination of the constitutional developments in pre- and post colonial Nigeria; and the dangers of war, dynamics of peace. Others will look at the principles of fiscal federalism and revenue allocation; the land question and the development agenda of the north.

"It is expected that at the end of the two-day conference, a committee will be set up and that committee will take an informed position of the north."

Why are you wasting your time. Your Buhari is against anything called restructuring. It will never happen according to your boss. Forget the idea till he leaves in 2019.

Here, it is the Yoruba summit that has sent a strong wave across the nation just because of the way we're well coordinated, the succes recorded at the summit and the support we got from our traditional rulers and people in government...even VP sent a representative to the summit.
Mind you, i am a Yoruba from Kogi state and we had some representative' at that summit.

For these reasons, the North have no other option than to come together and come up with a position too.

One thing we must look at here is the cordination, has your people ever come together to project a common position before?
Tell your people including those in government to come up with a position and see if FG will not take you serious.
The only response you got as a result of your agitation was the quit notice and we all witness' how you guys reacted to it(begging those northern youths up and down).
This move by the Northerners is as a result of the succes recorded in Ibadan and not your agitation as touching biafra.

To these people there is only North and South of Nigeria. Now they are having their ' referendum ' on how to handle the South. But some Southerners are ever willing to ally with them for the sake of sharing the booty or the crumbs given to them .
We cannot continue building on this defective /faulty foundation called the 1999 Constitution. Amend and patch it all you can, it won't work much longer because it is very lopsided and WE THE PEOPLE didn't midwife it. It cannot even pass the Rotarians 4 way test.

The northeners are trembling because of Ibadan summit. My hope is that SW leaders stick to their guns as the northerners are not willing to give up the feeding bottle without a fight or threat. Enough of status quo.

Southerners are fools and the north knows this. Nnamdi kanu is calling for Biafra and everyday you hear one foolish southern group coming out to dissociate themselves from the call. Worst still is that majority are Niger Delta groups (people who stand to benefit most from Biafra)
This conference of cause is just to make the south believe that the north is taking the call for restructure seriously. Believe me, nothing will come out of it. Nigeria will remain the way it is presently for a long time.
However if the south comes together and demand for disintegration now that kanu has raised the heat, the north will be the ones calling for restructure! An independent South means the North loses everything, including access to sea.
But no, keep hating on kanu... he called on yorubas to be killed (Adeyinka Grandson called on Igbos to be killed but we are not bortherd, same with Buhari in 2011)
