The trans Sahara trade was vertical not horizontal, most west African trade was vertical not horizontal. .
Maybe you need to read about Gensis khan, the Mongols, the Persians, Arabians, huns, and Vikings.

They all passed through Europe, burned Europe down and rebuilt Europe.

Africans didn't move an inch in cultural ideological exchange in relation to Europe.

Europe was not able to venture into the seas until a they developed navigational technology and large ships that could withstand the vagaries of the seas.

Western Africa could not trade with their selves due to the nature of their forests and coastal lines but could trade with the Arabs due to the savanna plains.

That being said trade and interaction was very limited along the west African and Central African region in respect to the European and Asian regions as I mentioned earlier due to no domesticated mode of transport i.e camels and horses..

The Europeans had mastered sea travel long before the coming of our lord Jesus.

That is past now.
What is holding the black man from moving forward is what has held them from moving forward in all ages.

Greed, prejudice, mental Laziness and god mentality.
