Don't mind him,I'm not sure he's worked in a properly structured place where every item in your employment contract is implemented. When resigning from my last job,I had to give two weeks notice despite not owing them a dime.Your employer needs time to find a suitable replacement for you and probably audit your accounts/activities depending on the nature of your job. So,you just can't leave unannounced or on a very short notice.Just refer to your employment letter or ask around if anyone has had to leave on a very short notice.Never rule out your new employer having to ask for reference from your old/last employer.

No mind the guy. And he is still quoting me as if he is making sense.

In lots of places, an unconfirmed staff needs to give 1 month notice, and a confirmed staff must give 3 months notice or pay instead of notice. These are conditions stated in signed and valid employment letters which i am sure a number of first bank applicants have signed with there current employers. These are the kind of terms we would sign with first bank if employed.

Maybe the guy has only worked in a cyber cafe.

What annoys me is the confidence with which people spread wrong information on NL.

I think he is just trying to be realistic because truth is FBN won't give you more than a week at most to report for training so it's actually your choice to ditch your current job for it or stay with your current job due to the conditions attached.

The issue of resigning 'properly' cannot be over emphasized. My current employers gave me 3 days to assume office and I hadnt dropped any prior notice at my previous place of work. I had to resign effective immediately, forfeiting a month's salary anyway, but of course it ddn't go down well with them. I got a formal letter stating that my resignation wasn't accepted and I would be denied any recommendations in the future.

Good thing was my present employers ddn't bother abt this when i showed them the letter, (just in case they decide to perform a bad ground check at any point in time).I was made to understand that the position was an entry level position, and as such it was assumed I had never worked anywhere. Fair enough money, but now I can't put the experiemce in my cv, cos u can never tell which company will conduct a background check. Naso 1 year work experience waste.

The truth is, no employer likes an effective immediately resignation, despite the forfeiture of one's salary. Appropriate time is expected to be given for a proper handover of all documents to the firm and for the firm to hire a replacement. So it's not impossible for one to get a bad recommendation from such employers when the need arises. In the big 4s, u must drop a month's notice as an associate and from senior level, 3 months. U no even get choice.

But then there's really nothing anyone can do about it, the FBN job is an entry level job, so we are not expected to have worked anywhere, hence the short notice (which is still not right anyways), but na naija we dey, so we not gats accept am like that.

Notice period is kinda tricky now especially when one is not certain of when training school with start. I believe what should be next is training school or is there any other process

I understand how we have to be "realistic". One can only be impressed if first bank gives like 3 months notice. But ....what is right is right.

So maybe i owe someone an apology.

But before that, let me ask you, if the experience at the place you resigned was 2-3 years, would you have acted the-same way? Should you now have to pull thesame stunt to join first bank and how would you explain the gapS in your CV if you do?

To start with, i never said FBN shld give a 1or 3 months notice, like I said it's an entry level opposition so one can understand if no notice is given at all. I was only explaining generally why it is important to resign properly, but this is NL, so it's expected for people to run their mouths.

On if I would have left if my experience was 2 to 3 years? Yes!. Fam it was a small startup company with a ridiculous pay, Trust me, you'd leave too. I might have taken the job experience from my CV, but I ddn't take it out of my head. What i learnt will stay with me forever.

FOUND THIS ON THE 2013 THREAD WHEN THEY WERE
EXPECTING F.B. RESPONSE AFTER A.C...great read

Dr Ubani works in one of Houston's biggest cardiology centers. His wife heads over 200 people in an IT firm in Texas too. Living above average they have one dream for which they saved religiously. The dream to someday go back home to Umuahia in Abia state and set up their own businesses.

Meanwhile...... Martins and his wife who both run successful businesses in Umuahia have not missed their "prayer point" in the last 4yrs. "Lord this dream must come through, we must relocate to America.

Uche Nwokocha watches through the window of his high rise First bank office everyday. Admiring independent businessmen. Hating his cage. "Sorry his job I mean" and wishing to be a self employed entrepreneur someday.

Meanwhile... Paul Oluwole walks pass that same First bank building everyday. His CV in his hand and sweat on his forehead, asking God "when"?. When would I say "I work for First Bank. That should be my office up there"

Mrs Aisha Bello, wife of a multi billionaire wishes she could turn back time and re-pick her husband. Marriage has been hell for her and and she wishes for singleness. Meanwhile Funke who works for her would give anything to be Mr Bello's wife. 4th wife is ok sef. "See fine man with cash. Kai some women are lucky" she says.

The stupidity that is inherent in envy and comparison of lives is the kind that needs exorcism to expel. Given the shoes of the man with the life you want may be all that you need to cure you of your inordinate longing. The grass is not always greener on the other side. When you look well, you will see that some glamour carry pain underneath.

Don't wish to be in anybody's shoe because you don't use the same size.

As you trust God for a better life, be content with what you have and where you are. I pray you will end well and in God! Amen!

Nanyt to you all fellow First bankers." cool

For those who have done documentation, a staff from f.b says within a month, call-up mail with storm in.

This means, preparation should begin in earnest, they said shirt color is white and sky-blue(only ).

So prepare!

Hello. cool
Good one.
I'm not one that mentions "reliable source"....I say what I know and specifically detail whom I heard it from. A confirmed staff says it usually takes a month for those who have done documentation to get mail for t.s.

I subjected it to reason myself, and I see the utmost possibility....also whatever is prepared for isn't necessarily going to waste. It might even be cost-effective to buy things for less now as we approach the yuletide season...so I decided to share.

News reaching me From an unreliable source is that TS mails might drop next week or upper week. So please just prepare yourself in advance if you are a TS hopeful. The time to prepare might really be limited. All those who might need to resign should begin to find out from their current employers their obligations.

Cheers.
