1. I am to submit an application for EA assessment as a Mechanical Engineer. Presently, work experience is about 7 yrs + 9months. The 9 months is in a different company. Question is, will EA assess my experience as 5 yrs since the 9 months done in a different company didn’t add up to a complete year which will then make the total years be less than 8yrs? Or will it be approximated to 8 yrs? You guys know how crucial that point difference is.
2. If eventually this comes to 5yrs, with my present IELTS score of minimum of 7 across board, I will have a total score of 60 points. Quite low for an ITA. And this brings me to ask a second question.
3. I will like to claim partner points for my spouse so I can get an additional 5pts. The basic issue here is my spouse has a Civil engineering degree but has not done any related work in civil engineering. Related work experience is in the oil and gas line. Drilling in particular but for the past 3 yrs or so, she has been out of employment. Is it necessary that she must be working at the time the assessment application is lodged? Does EA require spouse to have any experience for a positive assessment outcome? Is there a chance of getting a positive assessment? I mean please advice on this as this will require finance which I don’t want to just throw into the winds. I stumbled over these requirements for claiming points for partner skills. The 3rd and 4th item are giving me concerns.

 You can claim 5 extra points if your partner meets the below requirements:
• Under 50 years of age
• Has at least competent English
• Has nominated an occupation on the same skilled occupation list as your nominated occupation
• Has been assessed by the relevant assessing authority as having suitable skills for the nominated occupation

Response: My advice would be submit your EA assessment at the end of the month and hopefully the entire 7 yrs 10 months (Additional 1 month gained when submitting end of the month) is deemed relevant. EA assessment would most likely take you 1 or 2 months. Lodge your EOI but leave your end date as blank because you are still employed to the comapny, before getting your ITA, tour work experience would have racked up 8 years. Just ensure when you are submitting your payslips during visa application, add the additional payslips for the extra 2 or 3 months as the case maybe.

Response: I have seen people get positive EA assessment without having relevant work experience. You might want to seek the opinions of the civil engineers in the house. My advice would be considering doing PTE academic to see if you can claim 20 points ( which gives you an extra 10 points). Its far cheaper than the EA assessment fee.

Received the Grant today. Timeline is mentioned below.

I have been a silent member of this forum. Believing in all the pointers given by experts here I proceeded in my application. Folks who are waiting for grant , Just hold the ground for a while. You will be granted , just matter of time.

May 2, 2017: EA positive outcome
May 17, 2017: PTE (10 Points)
May 30 2017: EOI submitted with 65 points
June 07 2017: ITA received
June 21 2017: Visa lodged with 65 points
July 08 2017: Added Spouse
Aug 10 2017: Acknowledgement of Added Applicant
Sept 13, 2017: Direct Grant

As it has been said earlier, if you can nail 20 points from PTE, it is far cheaper than claiming partner points.

As per her occupation, civil engineering, it will fly and to write her CDR she can make use of her final year project report which she can break into 2 and get 2 career episodes for instance design and construction. She can also make use of any internship even if it was unpaid for and with that , she should be ok but if she's using her final year project, she should be having her transcripts handy.

If she wants to use any related project from her past company, she has to get an employment reference letter or a statutory declaration.

But from what I understood from you response, you mean that irrespective of the fact that I already had a 9months experience elsewhere, with 7yrs + say 3 months in a different company, the total experience amounts to 8yrs? I was thinking that each experience gained in any company has to be a complete duration in year(s) before it is counted and anything less (say couple of months) is not considered. Please would you clarify.

Reassessment was lodged towards the end of January, got a positive outcome Early march (6 weeks).

So you see, it takes time.
