In addition to the above buy VASUDEVAN BIOCHEMISTRY FOR MEDICAL STUDENTS, well simplified without unnecessary craps you will find in Lenhniger, Harpers, Lippincot biochemistry textbooks. Inderbir SINGH histology, SADDLER for embryology. You don't have to buy all if you have a tablet or laptop you can also download soft copies online

Goodmorning scientists in the house, please i need an explanation about microbiologists comparing themselves with medical laboratories scientists.
I changed from microbiology to medical laboratory in my 2nd yr and my microbiology seniors were angry.they were like"medical laboratory is nothing compared to microbiology and all that"
i want to know if microbiologist in the course of their training know about heamatological, histopathological, clinical pathological e.t.c tests and other laboratory teechniques to warrant their comparison with medical laboratory scientists.

The best decision you have made your entire life and won't ever regret it. Microbiology(ist) is nothing close to a medical laboratory scientists. You will boss them even in their Microbiology. Though they have this conceived notion that they can function anywhere lol (in a regulated sector) and reality dawn after graduation that they do not fit in anywhere except those who wants to continue with lecturing.

In the course of their training they don't do any of the courses you have mentioned and they can't compare themselves with a medical laboratory assistant let alone a scientist. The only thing is they will graduate, serve before you and that ends there. What they claim they know is only the medical microbiology part which you'll later find out they know nothing cos 95% can't prepare plates, culture let alone identifying organisms. Ask the so called senior how to identify fungus they'd be looking at you like Professor Mongopark. Leave those people with time you shall see things yourself.

You will suffer more than them from plenty reading (anatomy, Physiology, biochemistry, pathology, pharmacology and other difficult courses) and so on BUT they will watch you climb over when you are done suffering (graduating, internship etc) and wished they followed suit. Even if you want to start lecturing with your BMLS degree you start as an Assistant lecturer while they start as Graduate assistant (with MSc) you see there's no comparison.

From your internship sef you can start a life of your own though you are still learning. Even a blind man knows there's no comparison between a Microbiologist and a MLS. If you want to rub on their faces just specialize in medical microbiology and parasitology lol. Those people you call senior even with Msc will be learning where you are.

you are definitely on track, infact you are lucky to have transferred, in my school (uniben) there is no transfer to Medlab. I have classmates who came into through Direct entry after 1st degree in microbiology

the statement in bold is the height of ignorance from you Nelson! So you think microbiology begins and ends in the clinical aspects?! Apart from medical microbiology what else do you know about microbiology?! Don't make me annoyed!

The fact that microbiology students out there seem to be poorly trained is a function of the system we have. The curriculum does not entail enough Laboratory exposure for the bsc programme. Besides, we all know there's a deficit in terms of adequate facilities for training. I did an MSc programme and had Bmls graduates as my colleagues! they didn't know more than I did despite the fact that I have never had any biomedical training or worked in a medical laboratory. I also had Bmls graduates as colleagues during my IPAN training and I say there's nothing special about you guys! Una just dey there dey form wetin I no know. The only competitive advantage you have is your compulsory internship and professional certification. If we bsc holders had the same opportunities you wouldn't have any edge or bragging rights.

my friend microbiology is not a joke! our eyes are beginning to open to opportunities and the cloak of ignorance that made us despair is being removed! The problem is that most people think medical microbiology is the all in all. And that is the reason you were easily seduced by mls.

1. As long the certificate is still classified, a 3rd class can't have same chances as someone who graduated with 2.1. If you are an employer I bet you will choose a 2.1 graduate over 3rd class all other factors been equal. To me classification of BMLS should have been scrapped, medical degrees are unclassified as Nursing, pharm and others have adopted with 3.0 as minimum point out of 5.0 to graduate as Grades D and E will be eliminated and C become minimum grade for any course.

2. NO, you can't go for NYSC without doing internship, infact it is a prerequisite for camping, permanent license will still be requested in camp which you can't provide if you haven't done internship.

3. I think it is just licensing exam that is done don't know much about this. Others knowledgeable in this aspect will shed more light

"Nothing special about them" really,We all have a choice.i love the medical aspect of MCB and i found out i would be restricted so much if i should toil pure MCB.I don't like other aspects of MCB.From what you have said,i believe MLS is not in your league in clinical dexterity.MLS is not dragging other aspects of MCB.I have had this arguments several times with my MCB friends.MLS and MCB are not mates i would even prefer MedMCB to Pure MCB.To be clear, what Nelson said is the Truth.

1. It's unclassified in my school (UNILAG).... they use "Distinction"( those on 4.5 and above upon graduation) and "Pass" ( those on 2.5-4.49).....there's no 3rd class as those below 2.5 end up being withdrawn ......And yeah, grade C is the minimum grade for all courses, anything below that is "carryover"....Though as at when I was in 200l, the pass mark for Anatomy, physiology and Biochemistry was 40 but now they've adopted "C" as the minimum grade for all courses including those I mentioned

I'll find out more when school resumes.why i was concerned was because last 2 sessions, the best graduating student of MLS had 2.2 and i wonder what his other classmates grades might be.

Is there discrimination of certificate in employment by employees between Private University and Fed/ State uni?

Would love to know every scientist view on this.
Am a students of a State uni that wants to cross to a private uni to study MLS. I dont want a situation in the future that I will not be preferred or allowed to be placed on same level of opportunity with my colleague in govt owned institutions.
