So, in 2016, my cousin introduced me to a young music producer called Esau. Esau is great with the keyboard and music production. He's way better than me. He's also his Church's keyboardist and music teacher. He's married to a beautiful lady with a handsome child at the time, but now, two kids. I like Esau because of his confident and calm personality. He exudes confidence and trust. He's a sweet-talker whenever he manages to talk. So, my cousin introduced me to him and I fell in love with his persona. I recorded a song in his studio during his bonanza period. As I was leaving the studio, I got attacked by 3 kidnappers on police bulletproof who came to kidnap one of the rich men in my street, but he escaped. [2] I thought it was over. They took my phone and dropped my sim on the road. After robbing me and 2 minutes later, they shot someone on their way. That would've been me, but I was lucky. I cried. May her soul rest in peace. The next day, I narrated the story to Esau and he was shocked and thanked God for my life. Esau's boy, Jake, was perplexed as well. But I knew he was a bad boy. He was at most 20 years old, but smokes more weed than Lil Wayne. "iLegend," Jake calls, "let's go to that abandoned Church and blow," with three other weed-heads in the studio. Before he could finish his statement, the other guys were already heading to the Church to smoke. In my mind I said, "All these boys no dey fear God o!" [3] Jake impregnated a girl and ran to Lagos on July 2016 to pursue music. And before going, he wanted to rent my studio equipment. I own studio equipment and I'm also a producer, but not as good as his boss, Esau. When I told him the price to rent my equipment, he couldn't alter a word again — it was too pricey. Those equipment were imported and were all brand new. On September, I decided to pack my things and relocate to the next town. On that September, Esau called me on phone and told me how he wants to rent my equipment. I fixed a date with him to discuss the business. When he came, I told him to wait for me in a particular bar for a reason. I happily packed all my studio equipment to him. As I met him across the road, in that bar, he smiled seeing those equipment. Now it's time to negotiate price. "How much will I pay you, Legend?" "How much do you want to pay me Esau?" We kept going back and forth on who to talk the price first. I'm very... [4] I'm very stubborn in negotiations, so he succumbed and said 5k per month. I laughed and said it's 20k and he laughed. "Okay, I'll reduce it to 10k," I replied. "Legend you be my man. You be my personal person, so forget this thing way you dey talk. 10k too much na!" Finally, we agreed on 5k, but I knew I was being cheated. Because I like, trust, and admire his confidence and composure, I gave him all my studio equipment (except the guitar and violin) without a written agreement. I packed more of the equipment and he chartered a taxi and took them home to setup a new studio in Rumuokoro, Port Harcourt. After six months, I called him and and politely requested for payment, but he said the studio hasn't started. "Okay," I replied. On the 7th month I called him and said he should forget about the money and return my equipment to enable me use them to record something or sell them on OLX for 500k and invest the money on something else, but the guy refused. [5] I started getting angry, but was controlling my temper. On the 8th month, I called him and requested for the equipment only and not the money, but he started sounding like Adolf Hitler. I angrily went to his studio, but he wasn't around. The next day, I went, but he didn't make much sense with his Lai Mohammad-like excuses. As all these were going on, I switched on my phone recorder to secretly captured our conversations, in case of necessity. He promised me the next day and I went back on the that day, but he has locked his studio. I went home. By this time, I had wasted more than 6k on transportation. I gave him a week and called on phone, but he refused to pick. I called him again, yet he refused. I got mad and called him 13 more times, yet he refused. I messaged, yet no reply. I gave him a day and called with a different number and he picked. The moment he heard my voice, he hissed "Mtcheew" and ended the call. At this time, I was MAAAAAD! [6] One day, I called and he managed to pick and told me to come to Rumuokoro to pick my equipment. I went to Rumuokoro, called, and he said he was on his way. Minutes later, I called but his number was switched off. I wanted to light the whole Port Harcourt on fire. Throughout that day, his line wasn't available. I returned from Port Harcourt, went straight to his studio, and met him there. "Guy, why you dey do me like this? I said you should forget the money and return my equipment, but you refused. Why are you using evil to pay me for my good?" This talented and innocent looking music producer started manufacturing sweet lies to brainwash me, but doesn't know he was dealing with the wrong python. As the toxic conversation was going on, my phone was recording everything because I knew if it escalates, he'll deny all he said. I chatted with his ex-boy, Jake, on Facebook to tell me about his boss. "My boss is a heartless beast. He doesn't care about others. It's all about him and his greed. I once asked him for this equipment, but he refused and since I went to Lagos he hasn't called me to know if I arrived safely. He's heartless — that's all I can say. Please, be careful with him because he's dangerous. He can kill." I started threatening him on using SARS, army or police to pick him up, but he said if I wish to, I should call them. [7] On the 10th month, I called him to bring my equipment and forget the money and he promised me he'll be in PH in 2 hours. "Where should I wait for you?" I asked. "Wait for me in Artillery Junction," he replied. I was hungry, so I went to a restaurant to eat while waiting for him. As I was rushing my rice, a bunch of secondary school students returning from school saw my urgency and one said, "This one you dey fight with rice as if na World War!" That statement was true, but I wasn't in the mood for such, so I was furious. The truth is bitter. When I finished my food and regained my strength, I started laughing as I recalled the student's jibe on me. It was funny. I was truly fighting my plate of rice as if it was a World War. An hour later, I called Esau to know his where-about, but he said it was raining and honestly, it was raining from his end because I could hear it through the phone, except he told somebody to pour water on the zinc to confuse me, the zombie. "Where are you?" he said. "I'm in Artillery Junction," I replied. Though, I didn't go there yet, because I don't trust him anymore. "Okay, I'm on my way," he replied and ended the call. After 30 minutes, I called but what I heard was, "The MTN number you're calling is not available at the moment, please try again later." At this point in time, the devil gave me a lot of great suggestions on what to do to this insincere bastárd, but I'm not that mean to do evil to someone, so I rejected all the suggestions. I deleted all his numbers and returned, waited for weeks, then checked on him in his studio on the 11th month, but he was in Church.
