Ur stats are extremely misleading. In nigeria professors are not restricted to teach in their state if origin, there are everywhere. So u can't use that table as a tool. IGBOS are known to leave in hundreds of thousands or in millions across every state in nigeria so wen measuring anything, Ur kind of stats is JSS3 stats.

The first university and 3 of the first 5 universities afterall were set up in the SW. No surprise the North aren't represented either. They were the last to commit to Western education.

Claude Ake (18 February 1939 in Omoku – 7 November 1996) was a Nigerian political scientist. Ake gained a Ph.D. from Columbia University in 1966 and during his life he held various academic positions at institutions around the world, including Yale University (United States), University of Nairobi (Kenya),
University of Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) and
University of Port Harcourt (Nigeria). He was active in Nigerian politics and is well known for his work in studies of development and
democracy , his overriding concern being Africa . He died in an airplane crash on flight 86 between Port Harcourt and Lagos in Nigeria.
Claude Ake, a prominent Nigerian political scientist who was a visiting professor at Yale, died on November 7, 1996 when the Boeing 727 on which he was a passenger crashed into a lagoon in a mangrove jungle 25 miles northeast of Lagos, Nigeria. He was 57, and his permanent home was in Port Harcourt, Nigeria.
Ake (pronounced AH-kay) was one of 142 people killed when the plane, operated by a local airline , Aviation Development Company (ADC Airlines), crashed, leaving no survivors. His death was widely believed to have been orchestrated by the then military junta of Gen. Sani Abacha of whom Ake was an uncompromising critic [ citation needed ] . While teaching at Yale he lived in temporary quarters on the Yale campus.
He resigned from a commission appointed by the oil company Royal Dutch/Shell to study the ecology of the oil-producing Niger Delta. He did so to protest the execution of a minority rights activist, Ken Saro-Wiwa. [ citation needed ]
Ake was a critic of Shell and the oil industry. He is quoted as saying, "In Nigeria, companies like Shell are struggling between greed and fear ."
At his death, Ake was also the founder and director of the Center for Advanced Social Science, headquartered in Port Harcourt, which is the capital of Rivers State in southern Nigeria. Ake was born in Omoku, in that state. He had gone to Port Harcourt to hold a meeting at the center and was on his way back to the United States when he died.
The center is a think-tank for social and environmental research. It also played a practical role, functioning in the early 1990s as an honest broker concerning oil revenues and environmental issues between local officials and representatives of several minority groups in the oil-producing area in southeastern Nigeria.
Ake was also a critic of corruption and authoritarian rule in Africa. He wrote in 1985, in an essay on the African state: "Power is everything, and those who control the coercive resources use it freely to promote their interests."
George Bond, the director of the Institute of African Studies at Columbia University's School of International Public Affairs, said: "He was one of the pre-eminent scholars on African politics and a scholar-activist concerned with the development of Africa. His concern was primarily with the average African and how to improve the nature of his conditions."
Ake founded the center in 1991, with the mission of fostering development from within the social sciences on the African continent. Other tasks set for it were to apply scientific knowledge to actual developmental problems in Africa and to enable Africa to become more of a producer of knowledge.
When the center was founded, its sole supporter was the Ford Foundation. It is now supported by the Ford Foundation and other donors in the United States and elsewhere. Mora McLean, a former Ford Foundation staff member who is now the president of the Manhattan-based African-American Institute, said that Ake was "not just an intellectual, he was a visionary."

For about 300 years ago, their are over 3000 written books in northern part of Nigeria. the language is Arabic, the subject variet for different aspects from alchem ( Chemistry ), mandiq ( philosophy ), lugga ( language ) up to falaq ( astronomy ). The constrain here is the formular for formalisation, that is only knowledge written is English is conaider to be formal

When it was time for the British to hand over UI to Nigerians, the Igbo dominated NCNC ensured an Igbo Professor Kenneth Dike who was away on sabbatical in the USA was called back to become the vice-principal ahead of his senior Prof Ajose who was more qualified, physically present and interested in the position.

It is noteworthy that Dr Akanu Ibiam who was also Igbo, was the Chairman of the University Council.

Prof Kenneth Dike would go ahead to recruit Nigerians into UI, but out of the 108 newly hired, only 3 were Yorubas, and the remaining 105 were from Dike's and Akanu Ibiam's Eastern region.

Prof Ajose resigned and moved to the new Western region established OAU to become its pioneer VC, since the federal government posts was only merited by the Igbos who had partnered with the educationally disadvantaged North. Yet this same Igbos till today continue to bemoan the Northernization policy of Ahmadu Bello, who was Northern Premier. As far as they were concerned, they secured their own Eastern region for Easterners only, they dominated the Federal positions, and the North should have also been made open to their greed.

Each region were enjoying full autonomy, with its own constitution. Each region were maintaining its own embassy/ foreign mission in abroad, there was nothing like Nigerian embassy then. The man came, he declared that all the power should be concentrated in the central govt because he thought Igbo have come to rule Nigeria perpetually. Out of 33 military officers he promoted, 29 of them were Igbo. This is what responsible for his downfall after 6 months. When it down on them that they have fallen out of power, they declared secession. I think that is the foundation of the current structure. That Nigeria is not a true federal state today, was the handwork of those that are now shouting marginalisation.

This is a perfect example of my previous submission as to why PhD is a better yard to measure than professorship...

again it goes to show the devastating effect of the civil war...Chike obi had his PhD earlier but couldn't have his professorship quick enough which is what many igbos of his generation suffered. by the time the war had ended, many yorubas who were in the west which suffered no war were moving ahead with their academic pursuit while the likes chike was stunted by the war and when the war ended, they have been emasculated financially, socially and politically to continue from where they were before the war with all manner of discrimination.

many may have even dropped out of school to go into other businesses to survive while some had died during the war
