It's very entertaining albeit exciting to say the least, the subtle move with which the new generation of Yoruba leaders are tightening their grips over Lagos.

The era of mumu political correctness is over, of recent we've seen the statue of Chief Awolowo commissioned, the acceptance of Lagos into Odua Group, and now the Yoruba Language Bill.

For those of you that'll convulse over these news accept my humble condolences, it appears that the Yorubas have taken over the 'No Man's Land'.

I swear!

Like I'm really excited about what's going on in Lagos. I think the last elections kind of opened everyone's eyes lol

Those who don't like it should do the same in their states

I'm shocked. This thread is really quiet. I was expecting this thread to have reached 10 pages by now with ethnic bashings. What happened?

Some problems will arise here though.
1. Insufficient teachers
2. Doesn't this cause some inconsistency with WAEC which gives stidents a chance to choose? Perhaps they intend to make it compulsory in class but when applying for WAEC, students can drop it but it will increase the workload of students
3. In Unis, it should not carry any unit but it must be passed.

My thoughts anyway

you are right....
another reason to avoid state owned tertiary units!!

stupid law...the fed govt must intervene..we are talking about uniting nigeria..and some other people are talking about increasing diferentes between us.. av said it before the fed. govt should dissolve national civil defence corp. and replace them with the Nigerian social group which will study and trace society problems and fix them..if they existed, the research done by then would have informed the government of even more divisive potential of the lagos language laws,,..its a group like that that informed china to ban religion for young people in order to thwart future terrorism..a group like that asked Austria to reject Syrian refugees cuz of its future implications..a group like that informed India govt to ban the film passion of the christ throughout india...a group like that would have noticed the availability of youths on new social media platform nd direct govt agencies to advertise more in these platforms to get faster to the youths instead of constant NTA whether ppl are watching or not..a group like that can follow trend if the people and correctly predict thier actions...a group like that in Singapore raise alarm to govt of unwillingness of young wife's to bore more than one child..then govt announced incentives to women to encourage them hv more than a child....we don't have organisations like that monitor social trent..hence we throw away all our sociology graduates...

Its marvelous in our eyes

This will make land grabbers to steer clear

We have been developing our land ourselves and in our own way

We don't need the developers

Don't mind those inconsequential people money is the only thing of relevance to them. This is a good development I think other states in the western region including kogi and delta states should follow suit.

The foolishness of these internet rats continues.

I am yet to see an Easterner that is anti-integration. They have always been known to be masters in the language of the native populations. So what is the difference?

It is mostly Muslims that oppose integration.

Why are you bringing easterners and Muslims into this conversation? Are you trying to be divisive?
There are many northerners, westerners, middle belters, even foreigners like togolese, nigèriens who speak the languages of their host states/countries and do it well.
Even Pakistanis for Peckham London dey speak Yoruba cheesy.
Most of these groups mentioned are Muslims, yet they have also integrated well into the communities they live in. Even Aliko/Sani Dangote, Atiku speak Yoruba and they are northerners and Muslims.

So the Yorùbá language should disappear because we want to integrate? Which language should we use to integrate? English, Hausa or Arabic. All you wrote up there is gibberish. The Yorùbá will make you learn about the real owners of the land and their culture . Only stupid nations pick foreign languages as avenue for for national integration, should Haúsá be picked as the national language. Insufficient teachers ke? There are many Yoruba teachers looking for schools to teach.

It can be made one of the compulsory to be written in waec, if not students will not take the subject serious.

It is a very good development by the Lagos State Government.

there are sufficient teachers 4d subject. Every govt college of education and university in d SW including kwara state offer Yoruba as a course at both d NCE, B.ED and BA levels. With WAEC it doesn't cause any inconsistency. Its d same thing were children are taught French but they still choose not to write it at WAEC level. There are still exceptions cos there are students who still write language subjects in WAEC. D purpose of all this is so that d indigenous language doesn't loose its relevance all because we are following western education

That is why the wise thing is to fix this situation. Your children must speak English only and must form like a Whiteman. What relevance as it brought to our people? we only end up with bunch of confused unsociable kids who behave like agric chickens and can not fit else where except for whitemans land where they are hardly recognised. No wonder many of them want to come back home by all means. Mine is let us eschew all this fetish practices and develop our language so that all other people of the world can benefit from its reach cultural tapestry. Yoruba scholars the challenge is up to you all to development means to achieve this through research and development and make people proud to use approprate, clean, clear and correct Yoruba in their daily activities. You are the one that needs to be smart here, how can you tag Delta state a western region because one tribe from there has some sort of link with Yoruba. Don't mind me but can you listen to yourself a bit? if I want to learn any language in Nigeria then it would be Hausa, at least I can use it to collect contract from Abuja tongue
