He opined that muslims of the Western region prefer to be subservient rather than confront their feudal masters holding Nigerians to ransom. It's you duty to counter him than denigrate all Igbos over an individual's comment. Secondly, you mentioned igbo's religious intolerance, you also need an evidence to back it up.
Last time i checked, the war happened in the 60s but the people organizing sectarian violence in Nigeria before and after the war are muslims not forgetting boko haram and fulani herdsmen. I've not even mentioned the entire world.
Keep your guilty conscience and paranoia over the criticism of a violent religion.

it's a welcome development but a right of a Nigerian not from Yoruba descent should be put in consideration since we are still one Nigeria with English our lingua franca, can be compulsory for Yoruba descents but making compulsory for non Yoruba will create chaos and Nnamdi kanu aims will come to reality.

Thirdly, Igbo is spoken by all born and bred in Igboland. Igbos by nature are adventurous so they end up picking the languages of their immediate environment. That doesn't mean they hate their language. That is in contrast with you paranoid people that sit in your enclave which limits your competence in other languages.
You have to put things in context before spewing this sort of nonesense.
Nollywood: igbos kick started what we call the modern nigeria movie industry and they made those movies in the language. When Nigerians started demanding for translations, they realized that making only Igbo movies will restrict their market, that is how they started making English language movies.
Your modern yoruba cheap movie industry should rather give credit to those that brought international attention to nollywood.
Following the creation of Africa magic Igbo, more Igbo movies are made available to viewers.
I hate to get involved in an argument full of ignorance and assumptions.
Do what you want to do with your Ibo in your Onitsha and let us do as we like in our Lagos. Wjy is that a problem. This thread is not about Ibo and if you did not mention Ibo I would not have addressed it .So can we leave Ibo and get back to topic

New york is a bad example here because New york has no official language. That is unlike Lagos were every ethnicity represented use English as a formal language.
Inspite of New york's diversity, English is used in most formal establishments and it is taught in schools irrespective of the student's background. Spanish may be compulsory or taught in few neighbourhoods like Harlem where Spanish speaking people dominate but there is no enforcement of any regional or indigenous language in schools where there is a melting pot of people rather those languages are left as electives or taught to students from a specific language group.
By making a language compulsory in the melting pot of Nigeria, you are indirectly alienating students from other backgrounds. If same law is passed in other regions of Nigeria,it wouldn't really be appealing.
The idea should be a uniform compulsory education in the 3 major languages of Nigeria, that is,if Nigeria is ready to compliment English with Nigeria's local languages in formal enviroment.
One thing that has helped America grow is the act of deriving strenght from their diversity. Here in Nigeria,we always emphasize selfish and supremacist tendency 'you must learn my language because Lagos is not your own'.
I understand that you resent igbos and quickly criticize any comment made by an igbo on this thread.

This one is FFK-Yoruba...... or simply a flat head trying to unity-beg in Lagos.

Like someone mentioned, go and melt in Abuja, Mr. Ice-Cube.

Go and form Melting pot in Anamabra first. Allow SS-Minorities to dictate your way of life, economy and politics.

I'm not yoruba,i'm merely describing the reality on ground. Lagos has become a big melting pot therefore compelling non Yorubas to learn yoruba is absolutely wrong. Learning a language should never be done under compulsion.
Nigeria can never progress with the type of mentality on this thread so there is really no point deceiving ourselves with One Nigeria.

We won't infringe the rights of the indigenes/majority because of the rights of migrants. Are we telling migrants not to practice their language at home or in social settings? Lagos, as should other Yoruba states, is doing what it can to preserve its native language.

Then don't dabble in Yoruba politics. Thank you.

Nigeria won't progress if it continue to grow the English language at the detriment of our own language/culture.

I have every right to dabble in an issue that will affect other ethnicities in Lagos.
In the same vein, you have all the right to practise your culture and promote your language without compelling non yorubas citizens to do so.

The ethnicites in my state are not under any compulsion to learn the language of the state. It is absurd to compel minorities to learn your language in schools. Is this compulsion applied solely to students of yoruba heritage or the entire students residing in Lagos?

If your language needs to be preserved then enforce the law on your children/students without intruding on the rights of other ethnicities. Some measure of respect should be accorded to diversity regardless.

Yes, the language needs to be preserved like many other African languages. And yes, we will enforce it on all Yoruba states. Like I said, you're welcome to move back to your region if you fear the consequences of such law.

Sounds like a personal problem. The minorities that want to learn the language will, the ones that don't are welcome to go to other states where they won't have to learn it. You can't infringe on my rights because of yours in my own land.

^^This is the problem with Nigeria.
Move back because the attempt to enforce your mother tongue on others is wrong and may be resisted? Why then are people screaming one Nigeria if the collective diversity of tongues of her citizens can't be respected in all regions and states of Nigeria?
Why do you make emphasis for others to study your language and threaten expulsion in a sane argument.

An enlightened society can preserve it's regional language without compelling non indigenes to learn it. It has never worked like that in any part of the world.
If the Hausa states in the North enforced this sort of law, everyone will be screaming Islamization by now but hypocrites are hailing this inappropriate law because it is directly aimed at disrespecting other ethnicities.
What is the fate of Yoruba students in the SE/SS region if Igbo, Efik, Ibibio and Kalabari languages are enforced in schools? Why do you intend in widening the gap as against conversing for unity?
I would appreciate intelligent answers to my questions instead of some lame comment about moving out which gives credence to the fact that you are a tribalist with no sense of decorum.
