I don't make comment here but i have to respond to this

So you really expect the VO to tell you the sort of questions him or his colleagues will ask you during the interview and answers?

Please don't abuse the opportunity we have to read directly from VOs that make out time to help here
Am sorry, I dont mean to. M new here so everything is still strange. Just been able to go true some transcripts

Hello unluvablei -

1) On the DS160, if you're married you should say you're married, regardless of whether or not you change your name. If you are not yet married, you should say you are single, regardless of whether or not you are engaged. If asked about it at the interview you can clarify things.
2) Look at your circumstances. Do a self evaluation of your ties to Nigeria and your ties to the US. Which are stronger?
3) A F1 student visa is valid for entry into the US for the first time between 30 days before the start date of your program and the start date of your program, according to your I-20. If you defer to the following semester you'll need a new I-20 for the port of entry but the visa will still be valid.
unluvablei:
Good day LagosNIV,

Advise taken! smiley

My fiancee is a greencardholder and we're thinking about getting married in court in the US. However he doesnt plan to file for me until he's a citizen. He lives and works as a doctor in Nigeria as well. He is thinking of a masters programme for fall 2018.
1) should i declare that I'm married even though i don't plan to change my name for my school admission
2)would being married to a greencard holder be a disadvantage
3) If I apply for F1 visa for January term and get it, would it be possible to defer until fall 2018? I know the school can...but what are the implications for the F1?

Noted LagosNIV!

Would I need to take my marriage certificate along? Or his financials? His sister is my sponsor , so I figured that I maybe asked why not my husband as a sponsor.

Thanks alot!

Hello VO

Please I need to know,

1) Can someone use a scanned copy of his new i20 for an F1 visa interview?

2) Is it wise to book an Interview now as against Fall 2018 because my first visa was delayed a week today and am about writing the school to shift my admission till January, 2018 so can I go for the Interview maybe next month November, 2017, get the Visa approved and set for 2018 session, because my Sevis fee is still Valid?

Hello VO,

Good day to you.

Please, I need your advice. I am completing form DS-160 for F1 visa interview, which departure date from US after my study is acceptable by US government? For example, if my program end date is 31st December, 2019, when should I indicate as my date of departure from the US on form DS-160?

I await your prompt response.

Thank you.

GOOD day
I have a bachelors degree in biochemistry and am now going for another degree in medical laboratory which will last for three years instead of the normal four to five years because of the bachelors I already have in science...please do I stand a chance of visa approval?
Re: U.S. Student Visa (F1, M1, & J1) Forum - We're Listening by Nobody: 9:22pm On Oct 18, 2017
Hello sayilousnwa -

1) No. The original I-20 is a required document.

2) Student visas (F, M, J) can only be issued within 120 days of the scheduled start date of the program. If your program starts 15 August 2018,
the earliest we could issue your visa would be 15 April 2018. SEVIS fees are valid for 365 days from the date of payment.

Students who complete their program have an additional 60 days beyond the program end date to depart the United States.

Hello VO,

I used a passport until it expired but there were no visa stamps in it (I do not have a travel history). I have a new passport now. I will like to know if I'm required to come with both passports (old and new) for my f1 visa interview.

I ask because I may have misplaced the old passport and it's been bothering me.

Thanks

Hello VO,

My wife is filling her DS-160 form. She plans to join me on F-2 dependent visa. We are confused on who the principal applicant is? Is she the principal applicant, since she will be the one going for the interview or me, the F-1 student?

Thanks.

Hello guys I'm a young man in his early 20's and just got a BSc in psychology in Nigeria... I wanted to further to specialize in clinical psychology but i discovered I'm not really interested... My interest lies in the medical field and I'm thinking of switching... Although my o'level isn't science originated which i think could pose a problem. But i recently read online that anyone from any background could study medicine, physician assistance or nursing provided he/she passes the prerequisites in form of pre-med, pre-nursing in the USA etc... Please how true is this as I require an honest advice if possible from someone who has gone through it....

Hello, Nairaland!

Our other visa thread, U.S. Non-immigrant Visas: We’re Listening, has been a success in dispelling some of the myths associated with the visa process. We have enjoyed answering all of your pertinent questions and as we get ready for the upcoming summer cycle that sees a huge increase in student visas, we wanted to create a new forum JUST for applicants with questions about student visas (F1, M1, & J1).

We are U.S. Foreign Service Officers working in Abuja and Lagos and we are looking forward to answering your student related questions. Please note that we do not comment on specific cases, we do not offer advice, and we will not answer abusive or insulting posts.

While we will attempt to explain U.S. immigration policies on student visas and provide overall visa application guidance, any opinions expressed are the personal views of the writer and do not necessarily reflect the views of the United States Government.

There is a separate Immigrant and Diversity Visa thread at https://www.nairaland.com/1792591/u.s-immigration-questions-ask-u.s., also handled by a U.S. Foreign Service Officers in Nigeria, so please use this thread only for questions about student visas. If you have general non-immigrant visa questions, please visit the other thread here, https://www.nairaland.com/1792662/u.s-non-immigrant-visas-listening.

We look forward to hearing from you!

Regards,

Hello there. Kudos to you for the good job here.
Please i have a question. I was given a student visa F1 last December to study masters. I left Naija early January this year for tje United States. I attended classes for like 4 months then i later stopped attending due to some personal issues. I later decided to return to Nigeria around late June. Now I've been around since then till now and now planning to return back there soon and if possible resume schl again and finish my program this time. My SEVIS is getting expired by November and it will be till around December or January before i return back. Please what do i do so i allowed entry into the country at the Point of entry. Thanks

good day...please what's the possibility of issuing a student visa to a bachelor's degree holder who wants to go for a post-bachelor's degree in another profession.?
Re: U.S. Student Visa (F1, M1, & J1) Forum - We're Listening by Nobody: 1:51pm On Oct 30, 2017
Hello MISTAICEY02288 -

Assuming your F1 visa is still valid, and you're going to be resuming the same program, you'll need a new I-20 from the school. If you're doing a different program or if your visa has expired, you'll also need to apply for a new visa.

Regards,

LagosNIV

Hello V.O Pls is it a must one must do Toefl exam before applying to U.S schools? Is it one of the basic criteria they ask at embassy?
Re: U.S. Student Visa (F1, M1, & J1) Forum - We're Listening by Nobody: 4:22pm On Nov 06, 2017
Hello bonishapiro -

It is not a requirement to take any exams. You may be asked any questions that the consular officer who interviews you deems relevant to a determination of whether or not you are a bona fide student.

Hello!

I have a job and family resources however I used my friend in the US (same state as my school) as my sponsor due to ease of access to her bank statements when I applies.... I do have a few relatives including a brother in Boston but he's paying off loans and can't be a sponsor.

Pls does have a US citizen as a sole sponsor reduce my chances for F1?

Should I be worried about anything?

Dear Abujaniv,

Are the US statements of account sufficient to prove this means (An account statement indicating the F1 student is on Research Assistantships Stipends). Can the F2 applicant show this document as means to pay for expenses in US?

abujaniv:
Hello Glurssymum. Everybody needs their own DS-160 and I-20. F2s are exempted from the SEVIS fee. No additional documents are required, however, the consular officer may ask to see a bank statement or some proof of means to pay for the tuition and living expenses of two adults who will not be allowed to work in the United States.

please house I need ur advice on this one because I do not want any refusal this time because have read other people testimonies and would love to share mine somebody on his threads.
